Just wondered what Styx fans thought? Mixed bag of opinions on the Journey board....

I love it.... It is the top 5 Journey cds. A lot better than the last cd the band did. Styx needs to do this, no one is gonna buy their cds like the old days, so make a killer rockin cd (like Tommy and JY have been wanting to do).
If I had to give it a grade an A- or A. I have listened to it ever day (not today yet) since it has come out.

I like it, but prefer Revelation.

Agreed. It's a tad on the "heavy" side, although many Journey fans really want that. Someone definitely gave Neal Schon a new guitar for Christmas. I still need several more listens since it takes awhile for new CDs to grown on me.

I loved Revelation because it sounded like Journey trying to be Journey. On Eclipse, they sound like they're really trying to be a "new" band. Still, very powerful and very enjoyable. Just not sure I'd give it a 10/10 yet.

Haven't bought it, haven't listened to it. It sure didn't debut all that well considering how Revelation did. 18,000 units in it's first week has to be a disappointment for the band.

It's not the "heaviness" that bothers me. It's the fact that this album is what many accuse Journey of doing in the opposite direction; they're trying way too hard to be different from their original formula. Many said about Revelation that they were trying to hard to be Journey in 1981 again. Now they're trying way too hard to be the total opposite of that. It sounds out of its element and quite unnatural in many places. Now if it was a heavy sound but just felt natural, that's fine (think "World Gone Wild") but it's like they were intentionally being different and heavy just for the sake of being different. Not really inspired.

The first time I listened to it, I HATED it. Thought it was worst than Generations. But it is starting to grow on me. But no instant classic on this one though.

Revelation I was not a big fan of. Had some good songs on it, but over all bland. I have listened to the new cd (as a whole) more since I bought it over a week ago, than I have Revelation in the past 2 plus years.

Don't even like the band, Dean is a heavy metal drummer and the lead singer looks like he is 10 years old.
Not Journey thanks to Perry what a goof'. Will never see that lineup especially when there ticket prices are ridiculous

Loved Revelation(new material). It was a GREAT Perry/Journey CD!! One of their best!!!!

As of now I do NOT like Eclipse at all. Worse then Generations, which outside of Faith In The Heartland, and A Better Life was putrid.

Maybe it will grow on me but by the end of this weekend if it has not I probably will never give it a spin again.

I probably at some point will give this a listen, if the opportunity arises. Not going to go out of my way though.

While I don't dislike Arnel and think he does an admirable job on the Perry songs, Journey is Not-Journey to me without Perry and his one-of-a-kind voice. Same as with Styx -- Not-Styx without Dennis.

I will give this band kudos for creating NEW music and getting it out there, no matter what the final sales will be.

That said, I think they had backing and, of course, the Walmart deal, to get an album of new music out there at this late stage of the band's career.

You're stuck back in the styx, but no problem. Journey headlines for a reason.

Yeah, because they play mostly old songs to sell tickets, just like Styx. It has nothing to do with new albums or how they sell or how good/bad those albums are.

I am done with it.

I CANT believe that they do the MASTERPIECE that was the new songs on Revelation and then follow it up with this.

What I Needed was one of Journey's best songs EVER!! Name a song near that good?? Nothing compares to it or: Turn Down the World Tonight, Afer All These Years, Faith In The Heartland(Generations/Remake), Wildest Dreams, Where Did I Lose Your Love, What It Takes To Win...

I so wanted to like this CD, but I think that it sucks. They wasted a HUGE opportunity. I hope I am wrong and I wish I was wrong.

its good, just so uneven, lyrics and chorus's are for the most part sub poor.
Some classics, I absolutely love Resonate, Someone, and Anything is Poss,
City of hope and human feel is very mediocre, other songs would have been great with better lyrics
Venus was great until NEal thrashed so early in the song,

I love the originality, but at best this CD is 85-90%.

Arnel injected new life into the band. I liked Revelation. I have only given Eclipse one spin and was underwhelmed.
