This proves what? The band is playing places way off the map and still generating an average of over $30,000 in ticket sales a night. This is why they tour and this is why they are booked 200 nights a year. They generate revenue and draw people in. I am not convinced that these numbers would be any better if DDY was in the band if they tour as much as they have the last 12 years. Over saturation of the market and no new material to spark the core fan base.

I am a huge Styx fan, including the current lineup, and they play my town at least twice a year and I rarely go because they'll be back soon and nothing will be different from the last time. I would have gone to the GI/PO8 tour but they did not come west.

With casinos they will generally get the majority of the gate and then it depends on what the crew is getting paid and how band members are paid. I assume that Todd, Larry, and Ricky are all salaried players and they would be paid a weekly/annual salary. To put this in perspective, Vinnie Vincent left KISS when they would not up his $2000 weekly salary. This is a band selling out arenas and stadiums, selling records, and huge amounts of merch and he was only being paid $2000 a week. That is brutal. He of course did get publishing as he wrote most of the songs in that era of the band.

My point is they are making money and drawing people to casinos which is the goal at this point and it would not be much different with DDY or Larry in the band. Of course they make much more during summer touring season.

Could you imagine going to a STYX show with 588 Everettes in the audience? Then to top it off Gowan yelling out Dennis..

I wonder if Dennis's amazing band has had any role in this. I'm being completely serious. Dennis's band is absolutely phenomenal and you're getting the original voice and a very talented Tommy replacement.

The more accurate term for August would be sound alike or copycat. He hasn't replaced Tommy Shaw.

Froy, Lets assume you are correct and Larry's days in Styx are numbered and Dennis is going to accept an offer to return to the band. Do you seriously think at this stage in Dennis' career he would agree to a 200 date tour?

Of course he is. Dennis is now doing a 'Styx" show. It has NOTHING to do with his solo music AT ALL. The entire band are Styx replacements.

To be more precise Dennis is doing shows featuring the songs he wrote while being in Styx which was the majority of his career. What's the big deal? Of course he is focusing on the songs he did with Styx and not his solo work since Styx is what he is known for. Lots of artist are known for what they have done in a popular group as opposed to their solo career. Him including a Tommy sound alike is different matter. IMHO, it's a double edge sword.

I would be willing to bet that even the BNW tour, the others were purposing to do more dates then Dennis would agree to. He just isn't into long stints of of touring like the others. It's not a bad thing just a item he seems he will not compromise on both past and present. Therefore he is at odds with the others.

I think if DDY returned to the band, they would no longer have to play 200 shows a year just to have beer money. It's only a prediction, but I'm sure they could do a co-headlining tour with a band like Foreigner or REO and only have to do 50-60 shows to make the same $$$.

Besides, there's NO WAY that Suzanne would let DDY out of the house so long for a 200-show tour. :D

STYX would be the opener but it would be full shows,

OY! Here we go again. They are making money or they would not be doing this. Pure and simple. (And yes, Gowan sounds like s**t, but that is beside the point regarding their touring schedule).

They get booked. They get paid. On to the next stop on the endless tour.

They are all assured of comfortable money when it's time to come off the trail and truly retire.

In the summertime how many lawns do you have to cut and how many cars do you have to wash to make $ 2,000 dollars per day?

A car wash idea I just came up with is: hire some of the neighborhood kids and book Styx to play your car wash. For $20 bucks your customers can hear the entire Styx European set(25 minutes) and get their car washed.

Both you & Styx can make out like bandits!!!

Lots of artist are known for what they have done in a popular group as opposed to their solo career. Him including a Tommy sound alike is different matter. IMHO, it's a double edge sword.

It's not a 'big deal'. But, call it what it is.

If it was all about DDY's Styx songs, he wouldn't need to have somebody perform Tommy's.

The band is his version of Styx. And, they do a Styx show.

Call it for what it is.

The more accurate term for August would be sound alike or copycat. He hasn't replaced Tommy Shaw.

Of course he is. Dennis is now doing a 'Styx" show. It has NOTHING to do with his solo music AT ALL. The entire band are Styx replacements.

He does still play some of his solo music, including "Desert Moon" :P

The only sets I saw with solo songs were in Canada. The last set of a US show that I saw posted here had NO solo songs.
