A meeting with DDY

Not me, but a friend of mine did a meet and greet with Dennis a few months ago pre-show.

He's a geek for Dennis's solo work and asked him about playing certain songs (none of which I know)

Dennis said to him "I'd love to, but who would pay to hear it".

He was very gracious and funny about it and does love doing the Styx sets. His comment on Styx was "Wish them well. We had a great run."

Now how sincere he was saying that - go ahead and debate it.

I think his comment was sincere. To the best of my knowledge he has never made a negative comment about the current Styx or any of it's members. If anything the guy has tact.

Now, mind you, i'm not saying that this means I think Tommy is the opposite....cause obviously I'm a fan of Styx now AND then...but I think Tommy and DDY are just two different people. DDY I believe honestly means it when he says he enjoyed the time with Tommy in the band and the reuinion and all...and I also believe Tommy when he says that they just weren't good for each other from HIS point of view. When Tommy says this, I don't read it as an insult to DDY...but just his honest feelings. Sometimes, between two people, they can see the same situation from different points of view, and both be correct, and neither to blame. When Tommy says they weren't good for each other, I think he means that their differences were just too much to be able to work together....and I like that he says it without implying it was DDY's fault...even though some people read that into it.

I get that...but everyone's different...and maybe he feels he owes some sort of explanation to the fans as to why they're not together. I can talk about my ex and say that we just weren't right for each other....and that doesn't insult or accuse either of us, and the truth can be said while, at the same time, not blaming anyone. Is it negative? Yes...but life's full of negatives...and if the truth can be told kindly and without insult or blame...then I can't find fault with it.

Tommy seems to be more blunt in expressing his point of view. I don't feel he is as tactless as JY. I believe Tommy respects Dennis as a musician and performer. JY not so much, based on comments he's made. Dennis could be just as blunt on his point of view but, I think he understands that he has nothing to gain by it and does not want to tear down the work they did together.

4 or 5 years ago thanks to Suite I was fortunate enough to meet Dennis, his manager, his drummer(who has since passed), his son, and Glen.

100% class acts all the way.

It's more like Styx was killed. Tommy will still be able to appear on all those tribute albums by labels you never heard off. Back up plan could be the bowling alley in Alabama. He did say it was fun and he was content there.
