Big Change at Survivor.com

Postby jaxmanjoe » Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:36 pm

The home page picture changed from the band pic to a tiger! Woohoo! Two months and we get a picture change. No blog updates or new Q&A entries, just a home page picture change to a eerie looking tiger.

If a Survivor is never seen from or heard from again, how do we know he actually survived anything?

Yes. But then Frankie should just be honest for the first time in his life and tell the fans that they will not be releasing a new album anytime soon, if ever again.

Frankie brings all of this resentment on himself because he lies his ass off to the fans. Without the fans there's no "Frankie Sullivan the Rock star." And yet all he ever does is lie his ass off to Survivor fans.

If Frankie were to announce that he has no plans on releasing a new Survivor album ever again, I'd be disappointed, yes. But I wouldn't be angry.

Although, then again. He does make bold statements about how Peterik didn't see the value in Survivor, only to turn around and treat Survivor like a part-time-hobby himself. Sullivan is like a selfish child that doesn't want to play with a certain toy, but he wants to make sure that no one else gets to play with it either. The guy is close to being a freaking senior citizen, and yet he has the maturity of a 6 year old.

Can´t agree 100 % to Joe! Spacialy we fans in europa can´t be content with what was promised! Survivor is a trademark and with the promises that was made and broken a real dubious one!

I am prepared to offer Frankie Sullivan $10 for the "Survivor" name :!: Along with that $10 will be a promise that I will get together some musicians who want to work, and that we will play more shows with the "Survivor" name in one month than the current "Survivor" line-up play in one year.

So, Frankie, "How Do You Feel" about my offer?

I saw Survivor perform last night (July 15th) in Niles, Ohio.

It was at a rib-cook-off.

I don't remember the exact order that they played the songs in, but here's a list of the songs they played.

Can't Give It Up
Burning Heart
Summer Nights
High On You
Poor Man's Son
Rockin' Into The Night
Somewhere In America
The Search Is Over
I Can't Hold Back
Caught In The Game
Eye Of The Tiger

Frankie played about a 5 minute guitar solo. The new keyboardist played about a 5 minute keyboard solo. And Marc played a drum solo of around 3 to 5 minutes at the end of Caught In The Game.

To their credit, it was one of the better shows of their's that I've seen in a number of years. And whereas Mcauley isn't as good of a fit for Survivor as Jamison and Bickler are, I will say that he did do a pretty good job last night.

They now have several weeks between last nights show and their next scheduled show. Certainly enough time to finish one damn song.

I saw a couple in the audience that had a band photo of Survivor from the Vital Signs era on their I-Phone (or something like an I-Phone, anyway) while they watched the show. I could tell that they were trying to figure out who was still in the band that had been in the photo. They looked confused while they tried to figure in out.

Last time I saw the band was in New Orleans with Styx and REO. All three put on a good show. The only bad part of the of the show was Frankie's 10 minute solo in a 30 minute set. :(

I want to know, is Sullivan so dilusional that he really believes that by lying to Survivor fans by claiming that their working on a new album, when in reality, their not, that that is going to keep us going to their shows on a regular basis?

Reality: Survivor play a small handful of shows a year. Those shows are mostly at rib-cook-offs or carnivals, with the overwhelming majority of people at those shows being there for the cook-off or carnival, not the band. Those of us that are die-hard Survivor fans are going to the shows (If they play anywhere in our area) whether we believe there's a new album coming out soon or not. In fact, Sullivan is highly risking losing fans by lying to us.

Frankie, your not fooling anyone anymore. We know that you have no intentions of releasing a new album. So stop lying to the fans.

"Dear Friends...

Our first new release will be available at www.survivormusic.com as the new site is launched. Today I am making my final moves in the mix down at CRC in Chicago. The song is called "How Do You Feel" and is written by myself and Robin. Stay tuned for more news on the launching of the new Survivor site...!

It's a very happy new year and we are all very excited to finally have the song available for all of you.

Be back soon!

FS"

Above was a quote of Frankie Sullivan back on 12/29/10. I repeat, that was posted by Frankie Sullivan back on December, 29th, 2010

It sure has been awesome listening to "How Do You Feel" over and over for the past 6+ months!

Oh, wait a minute, you mean it's not.... Oh, never-mind, my bad.

OK. I know that I've been criticizing Frankie Sullivan a lot over the past couple of weeks. And I know that it might be annoying some of you, maybe???

So, I will stop criticizing him for a while here.

However, I do want to point out this one more thing before my break from criticizing Sullivan.

In a 1985 interview in Guitar Player Magazine, Frankie said that he's a "perfectionist."

I have to ask, does a "perfectionist" start projects and then just stop working on them without finishing the projects?

Does a "perfectionist" record parts (Or all) of a new song, then announce to his fans that he will be releasing that new song "soon," and then never actually release that song?

Does a "perfectionist" agree to produce a new album for another band, then after a while just stop showing up to the writing or recording sessions without any explanation at all? To me, that makes you a "perfectionist" at being unprofessional!

"Perfectionist," yeah, right.

Actually, I think that's pretty common behavior for a perfectionist. I know several people who are self-proclaimed perfectionists, and they tend to not finish projects because they get so caught up in trying to make sure it's 100% right that it ends up taking WAY too long to finish the project, and then eventually other things in life take over, and the project just kind of gets pushed aside. These people always talk about getting back to the project, but because they have unrealistic standards about trying to create something that's "perfect," the project becomes too daunting, and they subconsciously avoid working on it. Or, alternatively, they eventually lose interest because of how long it's taking them to reach the point where they feel the project is perfect.
I don't know if any of this applies to Frankie, of course, but it is something that I have seen perfectionists do.

Of course, it does not explain why he felt the need to keep announcing new projects that he must have known were nowhere near completion.

well, when you are that type of perfectionist (the lazy type, I call it), you sure need someone beside you that guides through the process and that gives you the timing table to proceed till the end of it. Maybe it's just that simple: FS is on his own, and also there's no whatsoever pressure to release anything...so why bother at the end.

To his favor, I may say that even though his touring is limited, is much more that what Survivor have done previously over the years. It's not like Frankie has been touring his socks off for 10 years when survivor were at their peak, so to him this might look like a frantic touring schedule, particularly at his age

Joe.

I did say that I will stop on the "bashing" for a while, and I mean it.

But I will make a couple of comments on your post.

The first one is not a complaint of any kind, just an observation. I think maybe FS should cut down on the running. I saw him about a week and a half ago, he had his shirt unbuttoned most of the way during the show, and he is a little tooth-pick at this point. He no longer has pectoral muscles. He has the chest development of a 5 year old boy. He looks to me like he would benefit by gaining 10 pounds.

Neal Schon is one year older than Frankie, and he plays way more shows than Frankie per year. If Frankie doesn't want to do that many shows a year, that's his right, though.

A question for you... Who's album has Sullivan played on in the last 10 years?

Yes, Frankie has the right to do as he chooses. I don't think anyone on here has ever disputed that. But like I said to you in another post of mine, he brings all of the resentment on himself. He keeps telling the fans about songs or even albums that he's working on, and claims that they'll be out soon. Only for years to go by without ever releasing anything. There's one other of my favorite musicians that does that type of thing, and ONLY one other. His name is Steve Perry. And I and countless other fans of his criticize him for doing that too.

I consider Jim Peterik and Jimi Jamison to be two of the nicest guys in the Rock&Roll world. Two of the absolute best at what they do, too. But if I were to see them out-and-out lying to their fans over-and-over again, I'd call them out on it too! Joe, I can honestly tell you that I'm just as big of a fan of Frankie Sullivan the guitarist as you are. I would love nothing more than to respect the guy as a human being, too! But I've seen how much he lies to his fans, and heard way too many bad things about the guy to respect him as a person. I'm a forgiving person. Maybe some day he'll change? I would love to be able to respect him all-the-way-around.

I've seen you say several things about Peterik being "ego driven." Now as far as the clothes that Peterik has been wearing in recent years...It would appear that Jim likes attention. But I never hear/read Peterik saying arrogant things. In fact he has always seemed humble from what I can tell.

I heard from a very good source that was there to witness it, that back in the late 80's Survivor showed up at a hotel that they were booked to be staying at, and that there was a reservation mix up. The band were told that they did NOT have reservations at the hotel. From what I was told Frankie started yelling loudly at the desk clerk saying "Do you know who I am?" Come on, seriously. Yelling "Do you know who I am" as if your some extra-special person, some huge star, is about as ego driven and arrogant as it gets.

One night back in 1996 or 1997 6 friends of mine and myself went to a Survivor show that was held at a fireworks store. I believe that the show was a couple of days before the 4th of July. The band were booked there to try to get people to go to the store to buy fireworks. The show was free. There were a total of about 15 people in the crowd. And my friends and I made up roughly half of the crowd.
With it being such a small crowd, it was easy to hear anything that was being said by anyone there, including the band. One of my friends started yelling out "Slander" in hopes of the band playing that song. He yelled it out a second time, and then a third time.
After the third time of my friend yelling out "Slander," Sullivan turned his head a way from the microphone and said "All right, shut the fuck up, asshole." Sullivan then (still away from the microphone) said "It's like playing in a bar."

There were several occasions that friends of mine and myself were at Survivor shows, and after the show if we were to try to get Peterik or Jamison or Bickler's attention in hopes of speaking to them they would all come over and speak to us and sign autographs. When we tried to see if Sullivan would come over he would completely ignore us and walk right past without acknowledging our presence in anyway.

I'm serious. I will try to stop the Frankie "bashing" for a while.

But please remember that it is Frankie that chooses to make statements about new songs and new albums over and over again, only for him to never release any of that. I think it's pretty easy to see why Survivor fans are so angry with the guy.

I have to sign off right now. But I have one last observation to make a little later tonight.

Joe's a good guy. And I can appreciate that he's defending a friend of his.

But obviously we have the right to criticize Sullivan (Or anyone else) if we want. I'm not the type to bash people for no reason, and I don't think that many others on this forum are that type either. Like I said, Frankie does bring a lot of the resentment on himself.

Here is that last observation of mine...

I recently saw the comedian Chris Rock on the Oprah show. While he was on the show, Oprah said to him that he thinks that racism is soon coming to an end, and she asked him why he says that.

Rock went on to say that he has noticed that his young children make the most noise just before they go to sleep.
He said that just before it's time for his kids to go to bed that they jump around and make all kinds of noise, and then, all of a sudden, next thing he knows, their asleep.

He said that the reason he says that racism is soon going to come to an end is because he has noticed that the "Tea Party" members are making all kinds of noise about the President and insulting the President because they are racists. (In Rock's view) But, Rock says that just like his kids, the "Tea Party" members (who are racists in Rock's opinion) are making all this noise because their "About to go to sleep."

I'm certainly not comparing Survivor fans to "racists" or perceived "racists." And of course, Rock was making a joke.
However, in a way, we Survivor fans (Or at least many of us) are making a lot of noise right now (Complaining about Sullivan) because were soon going to fall asleep.

We love Survivor's music. And we want more of it. So were complaining about the lack of new music. If we don't get it soon.... We will fall asleep. We will consider Survivor only in the past tense.
