One of the Noticeboard regulars Debbie asked me to print this...absolutely....all for a good cause!

"I know that there are a bunch of Tri-State area posters on the Noticeboard, so I just wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind posting something on your front page regarding this year's 3rd Annual March of Dimes Bikers for Babies fundraising event on August 28 on Staten Island, NY (Staten Island Bikers for Babies). The March of Dimes' goal is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. They carry out this mission through research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies' lives.

In addition to the annual morning motorcycle ride, there will be a custom car show, monster trucks, food/vendors, and live music beginning at 11:30am. Dee Snider of Twisted Sister is the National Spokesperson for the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies fundraising event, and he and AJ Pero (also of Twisted Sister) have been participating/performing at this event every year. Eddie Trunk (from That Metal Show) and Chris Jericho (pro wrestler and lead singer of the band Fozzy) will also be there.

You may either go to the Bikers for Babies main website Bikers For Babies and find your local chapter to donate (or find an event near you), or you may go directly to the March of Dimes' website and donate March of Dimes.

I have a question. Why did Glen Burtnick leave Styx? And when? Thanks.

Burtnik left Styx in September 2003. It was reported that doing all the touring that Styx wanted to do from 1999 on had kept him away from his young family for over 4 years and he left since he didn't want to spend that kind of time away from them anymore. Also, I believe he may have been a bit disappointed that Cyclorama didn't do as well as he'd hoped.

There were several reasons. Wanting to be with his family was one. However, the success (or lack thereof) of Cyclorama had NOTHING to do with his departure.

Glen was not happy that Kiss Your Ass Goodbye was not released as a single. He (and I) felt that it was the strongest single on a fine fine album. I agree with him.

Glen was a GREAT and very under valued edition to Styx.

DDY ALWAYS let the 'new' guy shine. Tommy should have done the same.

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye should have been the first single released off of Cyclorama. One With Everything should have been #2, and These Are The Times #3. If any of these had any success Yes I Can, Do things My Way, and Waiting For Our Time To Come all could have made some noise.

Cyclorama was a GREAT album!!!!

That is true. But, I don't think that is a reason he left the band.

I think he left Styx for the same reason Steve Smith did not continue with Journey past TBF...He did not intend to be in the band for the rest of career and he had other things he wanted to do creatively, like spend more time on stage with Zan. He did not intend to be a permanent member and wanted to move on.

Yes,it is a great album...and all of those songs are great singles....in any order they would have chosen to release them. But, I doubt it would have made much difference. They were on a smaller label and the promo $'s just wasn't there to give any chance of a hit.

As much as I like Glen as an artist and wish he were still in Styx, it's not Blink 182 or Sum 41. That's how that song comes across. A little dated and done by the wrong band that seems like it's trying to fit in.

Your correct. A point that the DDY haters want to forget or sweep under the rug because it doesn't support their opinion that Dennis felt Styx was all about himself. In contrast, it appears that Tommy and JY wanted Styx to be all about them. When Tommy returned to the band Glen should have known that he would get pushed to the back and viewed as the bass player like Chuck was. In the shadows where Tommy and JY want you to be.

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye was and still is a GREAT song. It was the best song on the album.

Pick up Glen's Welcome To Hollywood CD. The CD is EPIC!!!!! You can hear all of Glen's influences on this MASTERPIECE. From Hard Rock to rap to metal, to bagpipes,to Blink 182, to Glen completely solo( All Thats Yet To Come), to summarzing all of his efforts into a single song.......... CLASSIC

Personally I have NEVER heard an artist that could do all of this on a single album and pull it off. This CD should have swept the Grammy's it is soooooooooooo damn good.

Back to Kiss Your Ass Goodbye, that was the song that could have brought Styx back. HUGE mistake not releasing it first and then not at all. Like Dennis has always said a great song is a great song in any era. With some promo Styx would have captured lightening again. Tommy & JY blew it. The album was excellent and this was the song that could have introduced a new generation to the band.

Dennis sure knows talent first Glen then Todd!!!

Yogi, Welcome to Hollywood IS a masterpiece and one of my top 10 all-time favorite albums! Glen doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves. I wasn't happy (and still am not) about a Styx album (Cyclorama) being made without Dennis. But Glen's work on the record was fantastic.
And I'm not just talking about his 2 songs. I'm also talking about his influence and backing vocals on all the tracks.
