What was the point of yet ANOTHER compilation package?

Who chose the tracks, and sequencing?

Who came up with the cover?

Why was this deemed necessary?

How is it better than any of the other 20 compilation packages throughout the years?

Why am I wasting time pondering these things?

According to Classic Rock Mag review of the album,Malcolm Dome (from Classic Rock Mag) picked the tracks.

This is Sony's release, not Journey's. Journey has nothing to do with releasing these. Sony is releasing yet another compilation not too long after Journey releases a new album. In the end, I doubt Neal and Jonathan care much (and I doubt Tommy and JY care much about the Styx compilation)...it just means they get a few extra dollars for their writing credits, with no effort on their part. It's the label 'cashing in' and the writers get some royalties as a side benefit.

Also, DDY should receive more 'cash in' money then either Tommy or JY....people should be pointing fingers at him before Tommy and JY...even if they are wrong. Just shows the amount of bias on this forum.

As for Neal's comment about performing an album....it reads like some kinda off the cuff remark with little weight behind it, which Neal does often. Journey is really not set up right now to perform Escape, or any other old album, on tour this year. They are in over their heads with Eclipse not selling well.

Whenever Monker speaks, the Bullshit meter goes off.

Here is the real story on Greatest Hits Volume 2. Steve Perry is very much behind this release. He is the one that even chose the songs. Your comment about Journey having nothing to do with is completely bogus - Perry is heavily involved. Jonathan and Neal must also give their blessing and also had to bless the songs selected.

As far as Dennis getting more "cash in", we'd all like to know how you arrived at that one. Do you have a copy of the out of court settlement that was signed by all parties at the conclusion of the lawsuit that outlines the royalty percentage of each member? Because I'm sure everyone here would be interested in knowing more about that.

But I surmise that you do not have access to this information and thus will crawl back into your b.s. world and come up with more blather...

You just don't know what you are talking about.

Let's take Essential Journey. Yes, the band is consulted about what songs to have on it...but saying they had to 'approve' the list and therefore could cancel it is unheard of - not what happens. '

Yes, Steve Perry is heavily involved...especially if any remastering happens. But, they are not his project either....even Lora Beard has said that and if anybody would know, it's her.

Think of it this way, Steve Perry and Journey (or DDY and Styx) have a vested interest in any release the label releases that contains the old songs. They make money from the writing credits, and it's the brand that sells concert tickets...so they want to ensure it does not damage their future. Sony also has a vested interest in getting an 'ok' from the band...and the publicity of Perry working on it is good PR. If they don't they could go out and trash it and affect sales. So, they all play nice and all make a bit of cash. That's how Journey works.

But, Sony doesn't HAVE to do that. They can release whatever they want. They own the recordings - not Journey or Steve Perry. And, if they did not give an OK, GHLive, EJ, and GH2 would all be released anyway....because Journey nostalgia is hot right now.

And, if I am wrong....I would like Andrew to clarify - cuz I would be curious. And, I would respect his knowledge over that of a Styx troll.

Again, Monker...and the Bullshit meter reads.....a 9 out of 10 on your latest post.

Idiot, you said, Journey has nothing to do with this release and then you go and agree that you were full of shit and say..."well yes, Steve Perry did pick which songs were on it." So what is it? Either the band is involved or they are not. Steve Perry is completely involved in this. So go crawl back into your little hole and start thinking up more shit to throw out there. troll.

That is absolutely NOT what I said.

I said Journey has absolutely nothing to do with releasing these. Are you so dense that you do not know the difference between having something to do with releasing the CD, and being involved in the release itself? They may be involved in the process but they are not releasing the CD's. They neither seek these releases nor veto them. They are Sony's, period.

They also talk to Neal and Jonathan...but NONE of them are in complete control...they are just suggestions, they are insignificant sidemen who have no real control over anything. Again, it is SONY that releases the album, not Journey or Perry. None of the above have to give approval for anything to happen. None of them started, and none of them can stop it. It's Sony's.

GH2 would be released by Sony whether Perry was involved or not....the same with EJ, and GHLive....THAT is the bottom line point to Cassie. She said Journey is releasing GH2. They're not - Sony is. Wal-Mart and Frontiers released Eclipse - not Journey.

How many times do you hear stories of labels refusing to release an artists work? Hell, even Steve Perry had an album rejected by Sony. The band/artist does NOT have final control over what is released - the label does....unless the band IS the label.

As for the cover art it is probably the same people who made this one as they look similar.

I'm ducking low to stay out of the line of fire, but..............thanks for all the clarifications. Not having any industry knowledge, when I wrote that Journey was releasing another greatest hits package, I wasn't taking it to a technical, semantic-oriented angle. Guess I should have said that I read that a new Journey release is forthcoming, and left it at that. After all, in the long run, it doesn't matter to me WHO actually does the releasing, be it the act or the label. OK, I'll retreat back to my corner now!

Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

These are A&M UK releases. So probably the same company is doing all the cover art. It also might explain some of the song choices.
