Has anyone here ever even watched any of the first video? I'm curious. I would imagine most of you would find these videos to be pretty interesting. I would also strongly suggest going to one of his clinics if there is ever one in your area.

Figures that this is all you'd have to say. You can't dis' his abilities, so you sound off on the 5% of the video that uses a green screen. *shaking head*

Wow, I may have to see this just to find out what some of the music is. Some of the jazz fusion stuff Todd plays on is actually way more my taste than Styx. Some cool-sounding stuff on there.

What is your problem with Todd, Froy? I have read a lot of prior posts, and you are nothing but derisive about Todd and his playing. Why? What has he done to you? John Panozzo is dead, Styx needs a drummer, what is your issue with him? Seriously, who else should be playing? I don't understand where the hostility comes from.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

Leave it to you to make this about Gowan.

Froy, you should ask your hero, Steve Smith what he thinks of Todd's "deal" when it comes to drumming. While you're at it, you should ask Kenny Aranoff too. And when you're done, ask them what they think about armchair music fans who think they know more than people who have dedicated their lives to their craft.

If I was still playing Drums (HA!) I'd worship todd because he is a great drummer. I almost wish he'd find a metal band to join since I'd love to hear how he interprets that genre. I think he'd kill it.

A lot of people wanted him to join Dream Theater when Mike Portnoy quit. I think that would have been interesting

Bottom line Todd is not even in the top 10 of great drummers your just pitching his DVD great job Zan.
If it were not for John Panazzo passing you would not even have ever heard of Todd, Dennis's drummer is better than Todd,
Paul McCartneys drummer is better than Todd, Simon Phillips is better than Todd, IMO he's a sell out period,

Froy, I'll respectfully disagree. Todd is a great drummer and deserves all the accolades he has received. Yes, joining with Styx in 1995/6 got him noticed on a different stage but there's a reason other drummers give him accolades, too. Yes, I think Dennis' current drummer is more faithful to John's original parts these days (although with the re-records he has gone back to them a bit more) and is also very good, but don't denegrate Todd. Even Dennis has good things to say about Todd. Brian Wilson has good things to say about Todd. And so on. He's no hack.

I've met Todd as well and he's a great guy. Whatever you think about JY and Tommy ... they're not Todd.

If spankypantswazzizface ,who is playing with Dennis now was playing for Styx, he
would be an enabler and a lousy drummer and on and on.

I may be wrong but, didn't Dennis make a comment about Todd's drumming on Styx songs as "taking to many liberties or embellishing too much"? I thought I read that somewhere.

It's only because he filled in for Panazzo that he is even being mentioned,

I know I'll be beaten to death for even mentioning this, but rather obviously, John Panozzo was never in the Top 10 of drummers, either, not even at his peak. Does that mean he sucked? NO list ever compiled would ever list John in ANY top 10, ever. And by the time of EOTC he flat-out could barely handle the gig. So is John a joke or a hack? Or is it only people you wish to criticize?

By the way, Todd was not only "in the top ten", he was the #1 Rock Drummer in a Reader's Poll of a major drum magazine . . . something John never came anywhere close to as far as I know. So there's that, if anyone is interested in facts.

That's not to knock John, by the way. But facts are facts, even when unpleasant. John was right for Styx at a certain point, and he originated the parts on the classic records . . . but also had some obvious limitations that Todd does not. Todd is the better overall drummer and the industry's assessment bears that out.
