OT - Night Ranger on That Metal Show

Anyone see this episode? Jack Blades said something to the effect that a musician that stops creating new music is like an artist that doesn't paint. Too bad Styx doesn't feel that way.

And Jack should be proud of the new music he just helped create. The new Nightranger album is FANTASTIC!

I'll say this for Jack, he's always, always working on new stuff, whether with Night Ranger, solo, writing for other people . . . he's got an unstoppable work ethic and drive. Nice guy, too.

I watched it. The guys in Styx could learn something from that. I also noticed that Eddie Trunk asked about Damn Yankees getting together but Jack really didn't give a direct answer.

Isn't Night Ranger and metal an oxymoron?

You haven't listened to Night Ranger's new album. It rocks pretty good in most places

Are you kidding me? "Sing Me Away" is an essential metal classic, LOL. Right up there with "Breaking the Law."

Totally! Hell, last time Night Ranger performed in Nashville, I was in the mosh pit for "Sister Christian" and I barely escaped with my life!

I know, he just listened and moved on to something else without ever answering. I think talking about Ted gave a nice distraction.

I watch the show every week and was very surprised by it. The hosts of the show kept mentioning how ironic it was to have Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) and members of Night Ranger on the same show.

I found it interesting that he did that.

I saw Night Ranger do an acoustic show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville Sunday night (phenomenal show/experience, by the way), and Jack said the same thing. He said that he knows that people don't always want to hear new music - and the band totally understands that feeling - but he said they just have to keep making new music essentially for their own well-being. He said he would basically shrivel up and die if he didn't keep writing and writing. 8)

I realized the same thing, too, and I was thinking of dropping a Tweet at Eddie Trunk looking for clarification.

My "educated guess" is that it's for logistical reasons. We know they are good friends. They played at NAMM recently and speak of each other highly. My guess is there is not enough of a demand for Damn Yankees to justify them putting their regular bands (Styx, Night Ranger, Ted solo, Lynyrd Skynyrd) aside.

Ultimately, regarding the episode & question, I can't help but wonder if that was bad editing, and Jack did answer the question better.

I never thought of asking Eddie Trunk. That's a great idea. I remember that they had a record done that was scrapped because Ted was not happy with it. I wonder if that means that they still have one album left on their record deal?

I saw it. Great show! Hanging with Corey Taylor was cool!

My GF, who is a "Greatest Hits" Night Ranger is convinced that Brad Gillis is gay. No that there's anything wrong with that, but other than her just figuring out that Blades was in Damn Yankees, that's what she came away with after watching the interview.

New NR is the best they have done since the underated "Big Life". Maybe even a bit better.

Maybe we should set him up with Ricky Phillips.
