MG does Dallas, w/Mr. BIG!!

I’m not sure who the opening acts were and I wish I had paid better attention.
The first band played mostly covers, and they were very good. The second
band sang original stuff, Chemical Love, Chemical Reaction, Chemical High,
Chemical other stuff. They were young, they were cute and really very good.
I got in trouble w/security here^^^, so I spent most of my time trying to
comply with his wishes …that guy wanted my camera bad.

This was an audience of true blue, die hard Mr. Big fans …young, like us, :D
and younger. I wasn’t kidding about the guys, the audience was majority men.
They hogged the rail and all the vids, I’m pretty sure, were done by men.
The Big guys rocked and entertained from the moment they hit the stage.
They stopped here and there in between songs to chat …#1 to make sure we
knew how grateful they were to be in the US, Dallas, TOGETHER and their
reunion was long overdue #2 to make sure we knew how much they appreciated us
and #3 to show us some love …they love their fans!

EM’s vox are every bit as sharp live as they are recorded …so much soul,
everything is sung from his toes, when they’re rocking, when they slow it
down, no matter, he gives it his all. I love his voice and his style. He is
energized, but not too much…he knows his stuff.

The band is incredible, so much talent, on their own instruments and on
each others. When they swapped out instruments, including vox, for S>O>W …
I have to say I was impressed, but when they swapped again, I was amazed.
I have never seen a band smile so much, EVER!!

I knew I was going to love the music, I knew they were a talented bunch,
I knew I loved those vox, but I will admit that I was surprised that EM sounded
so incredible live. I was further touched by the outpouring of love between the
band members, the absolute blast they were having w/one another, which
translated to the audience, which translated back to them. If they grabbed
their hearts once, they did so over a dozen times throughout …if they had
been anywhere else someone would have called the paramedics …
They were so gracious and genuinely touched by the love they were getting
in return. Great, great crowd, loved the old stuff, but got the most excited
when they played the new stuff.

Deb, I know To Be With You isn’t one of your favs, but I love it …EM puts
so much sooooul into this song. Without his vox I’d feel different,
but geeeeez, he sounds just like yesterday and even if he didn't it's the
soul that makes him so incredible ...for me. Much like you know who!!

FU and I chatted just a bit about what it must feel like for them to go from
the huge venues they are accustomed to across the pond, to this. She
commented that when she saw them over there, there were just waves
of people and that has to be a thrill, but being able to have a more intimate
one on one with their fans at these shows …they just have the best of both
worlds. I’m glad my show was on the smaller scale.

Love The Bigs …class act!! PLEASE come home again soon!!

Some nights you get prime rib ... some nights juicy hamburger ... both tasty though very different; I imagine playing HoB Dallas and playing Download are the same kind of completely different/equally cool experiences for bands to are into enjoying their gigs rather than just phoning in the greatest hits ...

2nd opening band was called Gravity, I think; lots of talent, good songwriting, and plenty of cute ...

Wow, GREAT review MG! Enjoyed reading it so much I had to read it twice! :D LMAO at your title.......LOL, the sequel to Debbie does Dallas?

LOL and it's not that I don't like 'To Be With You', I do. It's just drives me nuts that that mega commercial hit is what some think they are all about.....they're so much more than that song.
And if you think EM brings it with soul on the Mr Big rockers, you should see a solo show sometime, he shines vocally on some of the more R&Bish solo and Mr Big songs. And totally agree,
I couldn't be more thrilled to have gotten the chance to finally see them (twice) in a smaller venue and real happy that they didn't package up to play bigger venues.
Would have missed out on the longer set, more intimate show, and more diverse setlist.

Now that the US tour is over, back over across the pond to the UK next week........ending in Indonesia in December. Damn the Bigs gotta be tired, that's a whole year of touring.

Like 5 times the views of even the Journey's Don't Stop Believin clip from Day on the Green I put up.

Yeah...I'll blog it...but this show will be just a warmup...I'm going to London in December. I'm just checking the last details (flights and accomodation). I'll be on vacation, so I bought tickets for Motley Crue/Def Leppard and Steel Panther in Wembley Arena (Dec 14), and now I'm figuring what to do around the date. Maybe another concert, but It will depends the time I'll stay in London, maybe from 7 to 10 days. In the same day has a Marillion Christmas concert, that I'll miss, of course, but there's another options like Uriah Heep, Status Quo, Bryan Adams or even Marillion in Birmingham...who knows?

Brian May talks about Mr. Big:

Well, it's a common sense...all the reviews say the same thing!!! Cool to have Brian giving to Mr. Big the respect they deserve.

From: http://www.brianmay.com/whatsnew.html

Mr Big? I went tonight (20 Sep) to see them at Shepherds Bush Empire. Amazing band. Amazing, amazing musicianship.

I had only seen them on YouTube previously, but I am fairly familiar with their old material.

I was blown away. In the flesh, their fire and skill and precision are even more astounding. I was smiling the whole time.

Truthfully this totally humbles me ... I could practice from now until 2020 and I would still not be able to play like Paul Gilbert.

Magnificent.

If you get the chance to see them on their current tour, don't pass it up. If you want to see a real rock band, and pinnacle rock musicianship -

- it does not get better than this !!

Me too! :D Couldn't have said it better myself.......oh wait I have, for years! Great little write up from Brian, glad he enjoyed himself. Cute pic of him with the guys. They truly ARE one of the best 100% LIVE rock band shows to catch these days. Thanks for sharing that, Silvio!

As much as I love EM's solo albums and shows, I sure hope MB 'Stay Together' (hahaha, get it?!).......... :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4wnzTxNOsQ

Another album and tour please.

I had to share. Brian is my ultimate guitar hero. He is a reliable source to validate the real importance of Mr. Big in the rock scenario. I like rock and roll because of him. I was only 9 or 10 years old when my oldest brother put A Night at the Opera to play...that unique sound blew me away...after that, Kiss came to Brazil and the damage was done.

LOL, I hear ya! The difference between my vids and somebody like Cindi's vids, are like night and day. I just simply can't stand still at rock concerts if I really dig the music, believe me I've tried. I figured this one would have been ok cuz it's slow, but I guess my shoulders and hips just have a mind of their own when it comes to the beat of great LIVE-LOUD music! Who am I kidding, I'm just as bad listening to great tunes in the car.....  LOL, I guess my vids are just more for the audio value. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-GlJiceb1s

They released a live accoustic show CD 'Live From The Living Room' back in April I think it was. It's an import. It's alot of the What If... tracks done accoustically. I have it, it's EXCELLENT! All the songs sound great! Quite a creative/talented bunch......to make some of the more hard hitting songs like Undertow and Take Cover come across so well accoustically.

LOL, I don't think they'd seen that cd from across the pond at the US M&G's. Paul was like....."Wow, cool!" And they all signed it. :D

Image

1. Undertow
2. Still Ain't Enough for Me
3. As far As I Can See
4. Voodoo Kiss
5. Take Cover (Torpey's hand drums and Paul's softer guitar work on this one......stunning, whole new feel to the song)
6. Around the World
7. Stranger in My Life
8. All the Way Up
9. To Be With You
10. Nobody Left To Blame (the Japanese Taiko drums add a cool vibe to this one too)
