Just curious, when did you start listening to Styx and did you ever see them in concert prior to Gowan replacing Dennis?

When they came out in the 70's & no i have not seen DDY.Don't really need to.

Yes he wrote most of the songs and their only #1 hit.
But on stage he is such a twat ,way too full of himself
and you just had to look at the other players,to not get nauseated.
Styx being Styx without Dennis,but playing the songs he mainly wrote with help from the others,
that they did not get credit for.We are doing great now,aren't we.Glad you had a great time at the 11th.

He was still doing the Hunchback songs....in fact, I should still have a VHS of his local PBS appearance where he says he still hoped to get a production on PBS. He sounded amazing, but his campy jokes were lame, his "thank you uncle Joe" or whatever it was when he prodded some in the crowd to shout out "Styx" as his former band (amid some boos from the crowd) I found insulting to the band and their fans, everybody sat on their hands until the very end with "Come Sail Away".....and the entire Finesse thing, along with seeing/hearing Suzanne singing was just odd.

His vocals were impressive, the songs are impressive, but the concert experience was not.

He came back a couple years later and played a "rib fest", and hasn't been back since...as far as I know.

10 out of 16 of Styx's greatest hits were written/performed by Dennis DeYoung. Who did you say is Styx again? What's more is that at least Renegade and Miss America underwent serious reworkings by Dennis to become the masterpieces that they are now.

Give me a break. Come Sail Away? JY and Tommy contributed with no credit. Pieces of Eight and Crystal Ball were weak efforts from Dennis. As far as the hits, why didn't Babe, a #1 song, sell more albums? Cornerstone sold about the same as GI and POE. Same thing with Mr Roboto and Don't Let It End. Kilroy sold less albums than the previous four. Tell me why?

You tell me something. How are CB and PoE weak efforts from Dennis??? Songs like Jennifer and This Old Man aren't weak... not to mention the "controlling dictator" allowed the new kids to have 3 songs on the album and even pushed for his song to be the title track. And what in the hell is weak about Dennis' songs on PoE??? I'm Okay is a great song and one I might add is still being butchered by the current band who in some of your diluted eyes can do no wrong. Queen of Spades... yep another bad one. Gimme a break. Bad of enough to be poorly re-recorded both musically and vocally on Vol. 2. Another they continue to butcher. Then there's the best of all his songs, the title track to PoE... even Tommy has said that's his favorite of Dennis'. Also, if you'd done a bit of research you would've found out that Dennis also contributed to hit songs of Tommy's with no credit. That's how they did it.
Maybe have someone proofread your posts before sending them next time. Perhaps you won't come across sounding so ignorant and single minded in the future.
