This quote was taken from the A&M archives right after The Grand Illusion was released. "We feel really good about this album. We did release it on 7-7-77 for luck but if this hits like we think it can and then we can follow it up successfully with another great album who knows somewhere down the road we might get our own jewellery line". James JY Young-
This was taken from Rolling Stone soon after Kilroy was released: "I did take us in a more theatric direction but hey I knew how bad the guys wanted a jewellery line I am the leader of Styx and this was the path I thought we should take to get us that jewellery line" - Dennis DeYoung
Also taken fron Rolling Stone " Dennis gets to be out there in that Robot costume with all the lights & glitter. He gets to wear all the jewellery and cool stuff. Why does he get to be the star? This just aint fair. All I want to do is rock and wear neat looking jewellery. This aint fair one bit"- Tommy Shaw
From Billboard " Chuck and Dennis both told me to wear it but I was still pissed off about the whole Kilroy concept. It's now that I realize that if Dr. Rightous would have only worn the anklet 'High Time' could have reached #1" That jewellery contract was so close I could taste it, why didnt I listen?" - James JY Young
Also from Billboard "Jonathan Chance only gets to wear a cheap watch and a bandanna". " Kilroy (Dennis) gets to wear all that cool jewelery, his stuff glitters" "Hello Girls With Guns, I'm outta here when this tour ends" - Tommy Shaw
Who would of thunk it??? Rock on Styx!!!! You have truly sold out!!!!!
P.S. Poth is still around. I was about ready to concede that Froy may have been right all along and then I read Poth's opinions and I know I just cant head off to that line of thinking.

I think they're taking a page out of Gene Simmon's book![]()

Please, Journey did the same thing with jewelry years ago...along with incense, soap, wine, Christmas decoration, and all kinds of crap.
Do you guys whine about EVERYTHING? This is one of the biggest non-issues I've ever read here. It's just proof that you people grasp at anything you can find as an excuse to whine about Styx.
yogi wrote:Monker here is where you are wrong. When is the last time Styx has put out new music? When Dennis was booted part of the reason according to Tommy & JY was this band wanted to ROCK. Dennis was taking them in a direction that they didnt want to go. Who would have thought that that direction was Jewelery? No new music but a coffee & jewelery line. Top that off with the fact their first piece of jewelery is a necklace with the inscription 'Come Sail Away With Me ' on it.
Lets get this right Styx kicks Dennis out of the band partly by their own admission because thy dont like the direction he is leading them. They ' want to rock' . After making Cyclorama they stop making new music and now they come up with a Jewelery Line featuring a song that was written and sung by the guy who helped form the band and that they kicked out.
Back when Styx was in their prime they were falsly accused by Rolling Stone and other magazines and 'experts' in the field of creating and playing McDonalds type cheap sell out manufactured faceless rock music. We all knew at the time that assessment was false. But no more . The 'rock' band that no longer creates new music has now SOLD out.
I wish Tommy,JY and the rest all the best. I hope they sell tons of jewelery. They wont be selling me their Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight CD that I truly wanted or the DVD that I semi wanted.
Who would have thought that when Tommy said he wanted to rock, that rock meant jewelery? Now Come Sail Away needs to be spelled Come Sale Away??

wow.....it's hard to imagine that a piece of jewelry can evoke such emotions.

Man, go infect another board with cry baby nonsense! You are the whiner. We can "talk" about whatever we want to. I haven't even entered in the particular topic, but it took your little rant to make it so. Must you defend every single thing about the current lineup? Can they do no wrong in your eyes? Also, with as much disrespect and insults that are thrown at DDY by some here, I have no desire to see a band who such people support. See it goes both ways. Big deal... neither side will miss us. Grow up.
Cassie May wrote:Maybe you all are losing sight of the big picture.....the one in which bands and music are business. Business includes marketing. Come on, Kiss has been doing this stuff since the 70s (lunchboxes and dolls, for Pete's sake)....not to mention all the Beatle paraphernalia that was marketed in the 60s. Any of you recall Beatle wigs? Beatle boots? Hell, people used to rip up sheets from hotels that the Fab Four had slept on and sell the pieces. So Styx is selling jewelry. Big deal. At least, they are in control of this, unlike the Beatles. I don't understand why y'all are getting your panties twisted about this. The marketing and selling of bands has been going on forever.
pinkfloyd1973 wrote:You know what Monker? I don't know what your major malfunction is, I made mention of Styx taking a page out of Gene Simmon's book (no insult there) and you get all pissy about it. I actually do not care what they do with licensing of the name. The comment had nothing to do with Dennis, only about the fact that the band KISS puts their name on a lot of merchandise and makes a buttload of money. Tommy and JY et al., can do that to their hearts' content, I don't give a rat's heiny
