What dreck. Gowan's voice if weak, flat, inconsistently raspy, and just plain bad. He also looks old, and drunk. A sucky rendition through and through. He should be banned from singing that song.

DENNIS DOESN'T LOOK OLD?

Dennis IS like 8 1/2 years older genius.

Dennis's face looks a lot younger than Lawrence's; compare the Rosie picture of Lawrence to this:

Dennis looks super old to me. On stage, he looks much older than Gowan- big deal. Although his hair looks only to be a few months old. And he REALLY needs to lose the air guitar moves, they don't suit him. How any of them look has nothing to do with their talent... "genius". No need to be a jerk dude. I just don't agree with you. That's usually how it goes with these conversations though.

ALL of these guys are talented players and singers. Gowan doesn't sound like Dennis. You know what? Dennis doesn't sound like Gowan either. Nobody's voice is going to sound like someone else's. Gowan's doing a credible job covering the tunes and he's also good to the Styx fans AND from what I've seen is always respectful to Dennis and what he did for Styx. Why are Dennis' fans so disrespectful to the others? JY should learn to be a bit more classy when he talks about the past and Dennis is always classy when he talks about any of em. Get over it kids, Dennis is out of the band. If you don't like it, start a Dennis Deyoung group. I'd gladly read it. There are some here that can appreciate both camps and others that are just psycho.

At first glance I thought that was JY and Ricky with DDY. Thought I may have missed something!

Well, correction here....They didn't wait for Perry. The entire band was already together, with the exception of Perry, and ready to record...songs were already being written. Kevin Chalfant was replacing him, and Gregg Rolie was in the band, too. Perry was touring solo for FTLOSM and basically, Sony wanted him in Journey and offered a deal to Perry and Journey to get him back. So, I don't think his heart was truly dedicated to Journey...I think he wanted to be solo.

Now, AFTER that, the band waited and waited for Perry to do the TBF reunion tour and Perry wouldn't tour because of his hip, wouldn't get surgery, and everything was delayed. The band got tired of waiting and came to a legal agreement to replace him.

One thing of interest here is that way back then Tommy wrote on his blog that he actually called and talked to Jonathan Cain for advice on replacing lead singers. He did not really elaborate on it much...just said they talked. I always thought it was to get advice on hiring a soundalike, or somebody who different, or what...especailly since they already had Gowan as a possibility. Don't know what Jonathan said to him.

I read that blog, too, and I believe Tommy added that Jonathan said to move quickly. Make a decision fast and get the new guy in as quickly as possible. I read another interview which stated that they didn't necessarily want a sound-alike. Just someone that would add energy to the band and his own spin on the songs without taking away too much from the original versions.

Not to add any muck to the fan wars, but while I personally don't care much for Gowan's voice, he does add a lot to the band. I enjoy watching him onstage more than I ever liked watching Dennis. (There were times I didn't care for Dennis' voice, either.) Dennis was so hokey and contrived, and I have never forgotten watching him singing to Miss Piggy during the PT tour and thinking, "What the hell...?" I appreciate the fact that all the guys now are much more entertaining to watch, and you can tell they are enjoying themselves, too. I saw Styx in their heyday and I have seen them as they are now (most recently, 2 GI/Po8 shows), and I really enjoy them more now. Just my opinion.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

Yeah, it's kinda like watching a "Rockin'" band like Styx playing to ice skaters.

I see, so since it was not directed at the fans then they still deserve respect regardless of their actions or ethics? If a guy is robbing my neighbors house then I should tell him to have a nice day as he rides off with his loot?

Yeah, you're right. DDY fans are the type of people who would go about 13yrs later to every bar in town to talk about how much you hate this guy who broke into your neighbor's house, and that you would make your life's work to express your obsession forever and ever...even though most people just don't give a damn and wish you would just shut the fuck up already and move on with your life.

Well, Can't wait for their appearance on "The View". Todd's got nothing on Rosie when it comes to drumming. They need to replace Todd with Rosie, add a third bass player and put more eye liner on Gowan and BINGO! JY will have his "Best Version Of Styx Ever"

BTW, the clip missed the part where the band gave each audience member Styx blend Bon Bons (Thin Rock hard shell on the outside with soft rock shell on the inside) plus, the never before seen "Oh Mamma" tie dye moo moo dress.

Yes, if you can be on national tv 3 times in one week that's a good thing.
Gotta go now, picking up a pizza on my way over to Froy's house to watch Styx on ice.

Of course, the TV stuff IS exposure, but what kind?

If we want to compare appearances. Dennis gets Jimmy Kimmel and Styx gets...cable Rosie. Dennis shares the spotlight with legendary singers on a Simon Cowell produced competition program and Styx gets...figure skating.

Just sayin........
