Clutch or not, there simply wasn't enough time. Brady didn't play perfectly, but he had zero help. Way too many dropped passes. Just can't have that in such a huge game. The bottom line is that if Welker catches that pass (and it was right in his hands), that game was over and the Patriots win it. Such is life. I still can't believe that this Patriots team even made it to The Super Bowl.

Same EXACT way how I felt when Mendenhall coughed up that fumble in XLV. The Steelers were only down 21-17 and driving on GB's 30 yard line. My asshole closed when I saw that ball pop out. That Welker drop lost the Pats another Championship. Nonethless, good season, John. The Patriots are one helluva tough team to beat no matter how you slice and dice it. They'll be back, as will Pittsburgh.

GREAT game. Another INSTANT classic. I think Eli just punched his ticket to the H.O.F. What a finish, great way to close out the NFL season with a Super Bowl like that. Can't wait for 2012 season opener!

Not sure what game you watched. It only got good in the last 7-8 minutes. The rest of the time I don't think either team knew it was a super bowl.

Not sure what game you watched. It only got good in the last 7-8 minutes. The rest of the time I don't think either team knew it was a super bowl.

I thought it was a great game all around. The first half started with big plays like the safety and then Brady taking his team 96 yards downfield for a touchdown right before half. The second half set the stage for another epic finish. I'm still not sure what the bigger catch is for the Giants. XLII or XLVI? Just because it wasn't 94-83 doesn't mean it wasn't a good game. Besides, it's all about the finish anyhow.

Agreed, fantastic game. Amazing how the Super Bowl keeps on delivering classic games the last 4 or 5 years (Saints Colts was the worst and that was still a fun one).

Cause I don't accept loss. I'm too competitive. In my eyes, NY was lucky...those 3 fumbles figured in BIG time. Especially that one with the 12 men on the field. Everything just happened to go NY's way...Gronk's limited play. Those 3 fumbles...and you really think Blackburn is a better athlete than Gronk? First, he pushed off, and Gronk couldn't jump like he usually does....Welker's drop....etc.

The reality is that the Giants made a couple of more plays and deserved to win the game. In spite of what the Patriots haters say, this doesn't diminish Brady or Belichick. As I said previously, I am STUNNED that this Patriots team made it to The Super Bowl. Sure, I'm disappointed that they lost the game. It doesn't change the fact that they made it FAR further than I thought they could with the defense they played all season with. If they find a guy or two who can play on the defensive side of the ball, there is no reason they can't get back to this game.

Injuries are a part of it my man. Hell, the Giants lost some big time Tight Ends on offense with a couple injuries on defense as well. I don't want to hear about Gronk, he made a HUGE 20+ yard reception that set up the Patriots lead at halftime. The Pats even held most of the lead in the second half and got productivity from their other ace, Aaron Hernandez. The Giants just simply went to town and took it. It was well earned in my opinion. They jumped on their fumbles and forced a big INT from Brady late.

Congratulations to the Giants and their fans tonight. One hell of a game. One catch by Welker or Hernandez, and it was in the bag...but the team that makes the plays when it counts, wins the game. Both defenses were surprisingly stout - especially surprising on the New England side of the ball.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had Stone Fingers Branch not dropped the first ball over the middle when the Pats got possession again with under a minute to go.

The Pats have two first round and two second round picks next year, plus more cap room than any team outside of Tampa Bay.

One of the best Super Bowls ever, even though it broke my heart.

Both teams only got to go to the SB because 49ers and Ravens flubbed the last play of their respective games. Yet, all the commentators were falling all over themselves raving about these 2 teams leading up to the Big Game. There's no such thing as a truly great team anymore...not like the Steelers of the 70's, 49ers of 80's, Cowboys of 90's...when they used to dominate over their opponents. Today, with league parity and dilution of players/talents (what..30 or 32 teams now?)...just bad and good teams. Saying the Pats are one of the greatest of all time is laughable.

Parity is a bad thing? I suppose you'd rather see the same 2 teams in the Super Bowl and playoffs every year? Incidentally, the Pats and Steelers have absolutely OWNED the last 12 years and the Colts cleaned up whatever sloppy seconds they left behind. So your parity (and only "good and bad but no great teams" corollary) don't really hold empirical weight in my eyes.

The Giants got hot at the right time and it paid off. And it's not like the 49ers fumbled at NY's 1 yard line. There's no guarantees Alex Noodlearm Smith was going to produce jackshit if the 49ers had not muffed that fumble anyway. Odds are he wasn't going to, based on his performance the whole second half of that game.
