Trust Styx to get competitive when it comes to to heritage rock trends.
Scarcely have the lights gone up than they are crisscrossing the stage in casual but choreographed movements,
throwing shapes and grinning at the audience .Relentlessly .
Over to one side Gowan strolls round his revolving keyboard like it's a kitchen worktop,
occasionally turning his back on it to play a solo.
It's not the way original singer DDY might have done it,
but it's definitely the way surviving guitarists JY and TS want to do it.
When original bassist CP briefly rejoins them on stage he looks a bit bemused.
But these are the albums Styx fans want to hear,and it's as if they were designed for arena rock.
Now they are even better than the real things.Hugh Fielder
