Best Dennis Ballad

Postby Toph » Thu May 10, 2012 7:46 am

Come on you Tommy Shaw head bangin' metal lovin' rockers, open up your soft side and tell us what Dennis ballad is your favorite.

These are straight ballads so half ballads like Lady, Come Sail Away, Pieces of Eight, Harry's Hands etc. aren't included

Hands down Paradise as done by Styx. Such a great song done by the band doing what they do at their best. Classic power ballad with modern production. I really liked it.

From turning hard to soft,a Dennis ballad has always been my favourite laxative.

Show Me The Way, for sure. A powerful vocal for a powerful sentiment.

The staying power of Desert Moon for me is primarily the wonderful melodic guitar work throughout the song.

BTW, if The Best of Times qualifies, I don't see why Lady wouldn't. The Best of Times has its own crunchy guitar breakdowns and what not.

The Best of Times is the best power ballad ever written. Period.
And Lady is NOT a ballad.

The Best Of Times, Desert Moon, Show Me The Way, Paradise, Love At First Sight & Roseland are all classic.

Those are DDY's and Styx's best. Best of Times by a nose.

Do you play it back at double speed so it sounds like Gowan? 8)

Love everything about "Desert Moon", including the video they made for the song, so there's my vote.

This is always a tough one for me. However, I always seem to gravitate to Desert Moon. Simply it is one of the best he has ever written.

It was a tough call between Goodbye to Roseland and Desert Moon. Had to go with the latter though.
