So what's your point? I would argue that they (and almost anyone who posts here) are (or at some point in time) Styx fans. Maybe more so of what Styx "was", vs. what they are now. The fact that a few individual got too personal with everyone else makes "anyone" that prefer the classic version more anal, maybe borderline crazy, or just plain wrong? Don't be so self righteous just because you choose to drink the Kook Aid. Some are OK with the current configuration, some are not. And that's fine.....it's called personal taste.

When a person does nothing but insult every member of the band except Dennis...both in the context of the past and present, they are not Styx fans. THAT is what these people were doing.

Back to the original topic. At work we listen to a station called "Bob FM" which is essentially an 80's station and something we can all agree on. They do play some off the wall stuff but Styx related they play the following in very heavy rotation:

Dont Let It End
Light Up
Mr. Roboto
Babe
The Best Of Times

We listen on our 12 hour shifts and these songs play EVERY day even on the night shift.

Maybe, but that doesn't apply to everyone who prefers the past to the current, which is the correlation I see being made. For instance, I can't stand Gowan's renditions of DDY's songs. I don't have to like it. I periodically (infrequently) complain, but I certainly don't take every opportunity to throw him under the bus. I have nothing against him personally. He seems a nice enough bloke, I see how he brings a different dimension to the band, and I don't blame him for taking the job. And, I have even mentioned in the past I like most of his contributions to Cyclorama (a pretty good disc overall, but not on balance with Equinox through PT). But I just can't stand to hear him singing the great songs that made Styx the great band they were. He mangles many of them, and anyone with working ears should be able to admit it.

Frankly, I've seen more posts in the past year bitching about people bitching than actual people bitching about wanting things the way they were.

Amen to that Keiferb, I am a fan of the classic line-up from the mid 1970's til around Cyclorama (I admit, I love "Yes I Can"). I just hate being lumped with those who constantly put down past or current members of the band, or not considered a Styx fan even though I am a big fan of Dennis DeYoung. I also like some of the Wooden Nickel era, and consider myself (still) a big fan of the band itself.

No, you don't have to like it.

You also do not have to constantly make references to Tommy shoving cocaine up his nose, Chuck being gay, JY being an asshole for speaking his mind in interviews, Gowan singing like a chipmunk, and on and on and on, repeatedly - over and over and over again. That is not being a Styx fan. It is some kinda weird anti-fan troll thing....which is what Toph and froy lead the charge in.

If you people are such Dennis fans and "classic" Styx fans, why is so hard for you to talk about it? and, why is it so easy for you to jump on the trolls bandwagon when they derail a thread by changing the conversation to the above? I remember Suite posting a ton threads that you fans should have loved, took up almost the entire first page of topics-- and they all died with hardly any posts, except for a couple that Toph started acting up on. Maybe you guys have forgotten how to 'be' a fan because you are so caught up in being against the current band. Most of you don't act like 'fans' of anything.

Do not lump me in with them please, and it's because the other side is just as good as rolling out the insults and mis-information once Toph and Froy get going on their little jollies against the band. All bets are off and any good topics end up dying off with insults from both sides, it's to the point I just mostly lurk here because there really isn't anything going on from either Dennis or the current Styx anyways.

I think that was what I was getting at as well. Again, I admit to being a periodic whiner, and yes, I've bashed JY. I have never said anything negative that I can remember about TS. Rather, I have a great deal of respect for him. I love some of his non-Styx work. Nor, have I ever opined about Chuck and his situation. It's the music that collection of individuals, with DDY, that is the reason there are any Styx fans.

I agree with you - I read up a few times a week, just to see what's cookin' (which is usually nothing), but only post on the rare occasion I've seen enough of the continuous reaming of those who simply don't appreciate the current version, or the self-righteous, self-proclaimed "troll" police. There is simply nothing else noteworthy at this point. The current tour isn't illiciting any conversation at all....and why would it, with it's same 10 song set list as the past 12 years. I would take new music with this configuration. Again, Carrot album wasn't too bad in my book.

I'm praying that David Gilmour gets in the mood to do something new. Waters is coming to Philly again - I saw the show last year, but just can't justify coming up with the $500 to see it again.

I was mad that Roger Waters was in my neck of the woods this weekend performing "The Wall" at Wrigley Field. Hopefully one of these days Roger and David will reunite once more and I will get to see it :?

I doubt it, which is sad. David seems so dead set against doing anything substantial with Waters. I think what we have seem of these two working together since the split is all were going to see.

Without both my mother AND father, I would cease to exist.

But they divorced when I was five, and I got over it.

And so did they.

Their lives are richer for it, and for that I am grateful.

My point is, just because Styx with DDY is "the reason" there are any Styx fans, doesn't somehow seal the argument that the remaining current & former members (or anyone who supports them) are a shadow of what they once were. On many levels, they are all better for it.

As for Toph, raj, and Froy - I never once thought Froy and Toph were the same person.
-Zan :)

believe me, i know my Styx

Styx and DDY are over it....and in many ways THEY are better off.

You are saying in your above quote that some DDY fans do not believe he is over it. It seems he has an easier time moving on then his fans.

As I said, if you care so much for DDY and are such a fan, why do you insist on posting about the current version of the band instead of what you are supposedly a fan of- DDY?

I am not commenting about whether Styx and\or DDY are "over it" nor if they are "better off". What I meant was that some fans like the current Styx line up and some don't. I don't think it diminishes the fans that don't. Do I think that Styx and DDY are over it? From outward public appearances it seems that way. Only they really know. I think JY and TS are because they got what they wanted, which is control of the band. I do think that DDY is better off with the way things are since it makes no sense for him to be in the company of people who would stab you in the back like that. Especially a childhood friend and someone who founded the band with you. I believe I have said before I AM NOT an advocate for a reunion of Styx and DDY. It also doesn't change my opinion of the current Styx. To me Styx without the inclusion of DDY isn't Styx. I don't expect everyone to have the same viewpoint either. That doesn't mean that I won't speak my opinion about it. As far as posting things about DDY here, those posts suffer the same thing as the posts about the current Styx. When someone posts something positive about DDY or his band , out come the comments and insults in the same fashion. Comments and insults like, fake Styx, Tommy sound-a-like, his band doesn't rock, Dennis is a poor keyboard player, Dennis looks over the hill, the Finesse sponsorship, Babe sucks, Roboto sucks and on and on. So it doesn't really matter whether the subject is Dennis or Styx, 99% of the time the posts get derailed by both sides. This is what happens when a fan base gets fragmented.

That is complete and utter BULLSHIT. There has been an obvious effort in the past to turn every thread about Styx in this forum to shit.; That hardly ever happens to DDY threads, unless Toph or froy turned the conversation that way. Even right now, look at the DDY threads here...and then look at the JY thread that you two can't let slip by without slanting it towards the same old crap. The evidence points to the simple fact that you guys would rather berate something then talk about what you like.

I'm sorry did you say something??
