Maybe the officials felt that they owed the Seahawks a favor after how the officails screwed them over in a previous game. Remember back when the Jets were still being coached by Bill Parcells, and the Jets "won" over the Seahawks when Vinny Testaverde ran into the endzone on a quarterback sneak? Of course, he was actually about a yard shy of the endzone, but the officials didn't care. They ruled it a touchdown, and the Jets won the game. Even as a Jets fan, I felt badly about that one: The Jets had absolutely nothing to gain by winning that game, but the Seahawks needed that win to get a spot in the play-offs. The screw-up effectively ended the Seahawks' season.

It's really not even a question of angle on this one. The one thing nobody seems to be talking about is that Golden Tate (the Seattle receiver who wrestled away the ball from the Green Bay defender) committed a BLATANT offensive pass interference call while the ball was still in the air. It wasn't even questionable, as he pushed a Green Bay defensive back with both of his hands to the ground. If these dopey officials make that call (as opposed to 80% of the phantom PI calls they do make), the game is over on the spot, so Green Bay actually got fucked over twice on the same play!

Hey, if you guys need an easy 2 points every week, just look up TheAspieGiraffe picks for Thursday and Sunday, then pick the opposite (and I'm only saying this in hopes of breaking this jinx. ). For this coming week, I'll be picking the Ravens (They really...couldn't...lose to the Browns, could they?) and the Bears (This will be a defensive struggle, but my chips are on the Bears' linemen to pressure Romo into some costly turnovers.)

This past weekend games were very hard to predict. All kinds of wacky upsets.I didn't get but a few right myself.

If you guys go back some pages, when I made my picks I declared this past week as being "don't be a pussy week" and pick some upsets! Haha. They will start coming week to week now. Week 3 on is usually the time to where the upsets come piling in.

All year, I didn't like this Oakland/Pittsburgh game for the Steelers, too. In my pre-season Steelers predictions, I had us losing at Oakland & had my doubts. Then the first 2 weeks, the Raiders looked awful as fuck. Of course, their breakout, come from behind in the 4th QRT (45 consecutive LOSS's snapped!) comes against the Steelers. Should have went with my gut. Fuck it.

The bottom line is it is time to get the real refs back in the game because the league is about putting the best of the best out on that field and that goes for players and the men who call these games every week.It takes years for these refs to get the game down and adjust and thats why there were some very talented crews officiating these games but these replacement refs will never quite get it done the way it needs to be done.

Same here i had a feeling Seattle would beat Green Bay but i went with Green Bay.I'll start going with my instinct more often.Your correct there will definitely be upsets each week.Never would've thought Kansas City would beat New Orleans playing Drew Brees and company in the dome.

I'm getting incredibly sick of the yearning for the halcyon days of the infallible "old refs." Yep, the same "old, regular refs" that gifted the Steelers a Super Bowl and <insert monumental/historic questionable call under incredibly high stakes here> etc etc. It's hilarious to see people acting like the "real refs" never cost anyone a game, a playoff spot, or even a Super Bowl itself.

All the players and fans whining about these refs better keep their mouths shut when the "old" refs return after this bullshit union extracts its pound of flesh from the league. The fact that these guys are whining about their gig at all under the circumstances they work is revolting to me.

Rodgers waxing poetic about the officiating not matching up with "the product on the field" and playing the "poor fans who pay good money have to see this bad officiating" card is just as deplorable. Yeah Aaron, because you and your team played at such a high level all night. Get the fuck outta here. That game was boring as shit until the end other than some enjoyable defense from Seattle.

Matt...

While I don't disagree with your point that the "old refs" blow calls weekly in NFL games, this is an entirely different situation. Listen, you haven't read one post from me stating that the Patriots lost to Baltimore because of the officiating. They lost because their defense fucking sucked and gave up more than 30 points to a middle of the road offensive team and missed several gift interceptions from that blowhard Flacco!

I don't think these replacement officials have really slanted things in favor of any one team. In the games I've seen, the calls have been equally dreadful against both teams. Having said that, this officiating has been fucking AWFUL, across the board. So, while the actual NFL officials definitely fuck up calls, it's never been on this level. Seriously, if you watch these games, this is flat out ugly. These fuckers are making up calls that aren't there. Pittsburgh's defensive back, Mundy, leaves his feet and launches his helmet into Heyward-Bey and they don't' even throw a flag. Hell, in the Detroit vs Tennessee game, they gave the Titans 13 extra yards in fucking overtime, while giving Harbaugh (in San Francisco) two additional challenges that he wasn't supposed to have!

The officiating is just horrible.. at least its pretty evenly spread..

Mundy knocked out Brandon Myers too.. legal though as Myers was not defenseless... I'm sure Mundy will have a lighter wallet...

I was laughing that the 9ers got an extra challenge...

Have you watched any NFL game in its entirety this season yet? The games are horrifically longer than EVER and the simplest of calls take 5-10 minutes to sort out. Not only that, but a huddle after every flag thrown lasts for minutes upon minutes on end. It slows down the game and draws out an already watered down product to begin with. And that's without refs literally making up their own calls on the fly and giving teams extra yardages and timeouts when they have no business doing so. It's fucking awful. There's a difference between getting by and being flat out embarrassed to watch such a thing take place.

I don't blame these refs one bit. They are NOT meant for this. They were thrown into the oven and left to burn until this thing gets settled. I know one thing: the real ref's will draw a standing ovation from every single fan in every single stadium once they make their return.

Sure the real refs make mistakes, but never the magnitude of what we see in every single football game on a consistent basis. I can handle judgmental mistakes but these guys literally have no idea what anything is or how the game is managed whatsoever and it's fucking nauseating.

As a fan, if you're not fed up by how these people in zebra uniforms are ruining the integrity of the game while the league sits back and does nothing, then that's hard to believe. If the Browns were actually competitive enough to draw such a thing, you'd be pissed too.

John, you didn't write ONE thing I disagree with. But the fact remains that the "real refs" can come back anytime they choose. They've reportedly been offered salaries that will eventually reach 200,000 (for 17 Sundays' worth of work, and yes, I know, more work goes into being a ref than just the game itself) and $20,000 in 401k contributions, but it's still not good enough.

It's mindboggling that these guys are clinging to proven company killers like pensions and wringing every last cent out of their employer.

As football fans, we ALL owe a duty to oppose what this slimeball union is doing, regardless of your political persuasions or general stance on unions. Excessive pensions and unrealistically demanding employees that you can't fire have brought down industrial juggernauts bigger than the seemingly unstoppable NFL.

I don't want these unions, players refs or otherwise, ruining this league or any other sport I enjoy.

Heyward-Bey. Or are you thinking of another hit I don't remember? I remember Emmanuel Sanders taking a WICKED shot as well. It is what it is. Mundy made a routine safety play from the opposite side of the field to jar the ball loose of being a touchdown. Of course, helmet to helmet was made but not intentionally. Those hits will NEVER-EVER stop occurring as long as the NFL may live and I don't care HOW MUCH the NFL wants to crack down the laws on it. It's simply impossible to prevent.

I am just fired up about this ref bullshit today. In the Cleveland Plain Dealer, one of our ignorant sports columnists wrote a column telling the NFL the terms it needs to accept, i.e., $250,000 a year, pensions, the whole nine yards so that we can "restore the integrity of the game."

As a wise man once said, "People sure are generous when they're giving away other people's money."

The NFL's rise in popularity is coinciding with a growing perception that it has unlimited deep pockets. Hence the concussion lawsuits, the players' lockout last year, and now, the refs' lockout. Trust me. You give these thugs and competing interests enough time, and they will bring the NFL to its knees.

I'm fine with whatever needs to be done. Money should never be an issue but greed always prevails in the end. If it happens under the NFL umbrella, then so-be-it. The refs are clearly worth whatever they are asking and the NFL is a big enough cooperation that piles in billions and billions upon billions every week. Every day. Merchandise, promotions, television deals, advertising, stadium revenue, ticket prices. The list goes on and on. Paying these refs shouldn't even put a nick in their spending's. I can see if these replacements picked up where the refs left off, but that's clearly not the case.

Who are the NFL to have the best referees anyway? I believe that all sports should have equal access to officiating care. Who says that the womens' lingerie football league shouldn't have the best officials?

Mundy clocked Heyward-Bey, then on the Radiers last drive Brandon Myers caught a 15 yarder and Mundy nailed him at the end of it. Myers left the game with a concussion.. legal hit though.

I agree it won't end.. at least until the NFL (right or wrong) loses a big lawsuit and has to pay out an insane amount of money..
