I still can't get over how self-satisfied the Packers seem to get. He and Woodson sounded like they'd done all they needed to do this season with one good performance. That must emanate from Rodgers, who seems to have turned into a real dickbag since his run as a relatively unassuming young QB to the Lombardi Trophy. That self-satisfaction certainly did them in last year. Seems they haven't learned.

The AFC is pretty fugly IMO. I agree with your assessment of the Texans, they are destined for homefield advantage but I still think the NFC is heads and shoulders above the AFC right now. Other than Houston (who is all around legit) & the Ravens (5-1; giving up over 200 yards rushing a game and is now without Webb, Suggs and Lewis) the rest of the AFC has records of 3-3 or worse. Fuck, the Jets and Bills are labled as AFC playoff hopefuls at the current moment.

It's one of those dirty secrets about the Patriots. Doesn't matter what part of the Belichick era, they've always been vulnerable to the deep ball.

In addition, I thought the Seahawks had a shot because the Pats struggle against rookie QBs they haven't seen before. Said rookie QBs don't always win, but the games tend to be close. Add it to the list of games I got burned on because I didn't trust my instinct.

My Super Bowl pick isn't looking so well either. The Ravens have lost Lewis, Ngata, and Webb...and Houston looked very vulnerable with Cushing out of the lineup. Pats are playing below their standards...sad to think next week's Pats/Jets game will determine the division leader....Who does that leave left in the AFC? The Chargers? The Broncos? Yikes!

Agreed. I believe 8-8 in the AFC can land a 5th WC spot this season. So far, it looks like to be the case.

I can see the Ravens going 8-8 now with Ray Ray, Webb, and Ngata out now. Maybe 9-7, but I see a playoff berth slipping away. Those injuries are HUGE.

Maybe. Truth be told, regular season records aren't that relevant. The Patriots almost always have the best regular season record and haven't won it all in 5 years. Last I checked, the Giants won the Super Bowl last season, and barely got into the playoffs with 9 wins! Get in and figure the rest out later. I definitely think Baltimore takes a step back. Ray Lewis has always been the heart and soul of that team. I always thought Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison were the soul of the Patriots defense and that defense hasn't been the same since those guys retired. It's tough to lose good players and leaders. Everyone keeps telling me that the Texans and Niners will play in The Super Bowl. I would be stunned to see either of those teams there, given how this season has gone, thusfar. Half the NFL is playing VERY mediocre football!

WOW. Chargers just totally had one of the worst collapse's I've ever seen. Up by 24 points, Rivers was involved in 4 second half turnovers, including a fumble for a touchdown and a pick 6.

24-0 blown. This league is unrecognizable anymore!

Rivers alone accounted for 5 turnovers in the second half and 14 Broncos points defensively. The dude is quickly becoming a fine choke artist in this league. I've always gave Rivers the benefit of the doubt, but that performance was puke educing. The team of Phillip Rivers and Norv Turner is no better than Tony Romo and Jason Garrett.

Not sure if your comment is directed toward me, but I see one of my quotes in there. For the record, Matt's comment was about Peyton. Mine was not. I was referring to the first half of football I watched, as it was fucking DREADFUL! I think everyone probably knows I am soooooooo not a Chargers/Norv Turner fan. I haven't been able to figure out (for many years) how the hell Norv Turner still has a head coaching job in the NFL. Guy is fucking AWFUL! The good news is that if you're a fan, this is your season, because you're team is alive and well. Less than a third of the teams (9 to be exact) in the entire league have a winning record. Eleven teams in the league are 3-3 (including one entire division). This will truly be a season to just get into the tournament and see what happens, because absolutely nothing will be decided in the regular season, as it rarely ever is in this league.

Rivers by himself was dreadful. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with him and Cam Newton at QB this year. Neither one is really lighting it up, though Rivers was doing fairly well before this week.

Well, I was one of those foolish people who turned off the tv after the Chargers went up 24-0. At that point, I thought 'Well, I jinxed Peyton Manning a second time in a row on Monday Night by picking the Broncos to win.' ...I woke up the next morning to see he lit it up again in the second half. Got some help from the defense as well.

After I commented about the mediocrity of the AFC, I was just thinking that the Broncos 'could' potentially be the 'elite' team of the AFC...they'll be outright scary if Peyton and co. ever get on the same page for two halves.

Browns president Mike Holmgren will retire at the end of this season and former Eagles president Joe Banner is being named the Browns new CEO effective immediately, according to league sources. New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is expected to make the announcement today

Great post a page before about how every team is in the hunt and just getting in can do anybody wonders. I agreed with basically everything you had to say verbatim. +1. As for above, I also agree. Not only is Denver 3-3, but you SURE ARE HELL are NOT even NEAR being an elite team (let alone a great team) if you have to dig yourselves out of a 20+ point deficit every week! It simply won't continue and it shouldn't. This was one of a couple occasions were Denver was down by a big lead only to scratch and claw back into the game. This time, Tom Brady wasn't on the other side of the field to put the nail in the coffin, Phillip Leaf was and that was the all-deciding difference in Denver straddling that fine line between winning and losing last night.

All 3 of my absolute FAVORITE picks from April's draft (ALL STEALS) did not play ONE DOWN yet in the regular season. 1st round pick RG David DeCastro (torn MCL, dislocated kneecap in the pre-season), 3rd round pick MLB Sean Spence (who is like Seattle's first rounder Bruce Irvin; leg injury, out for season) and now NT Ta'amu, Hampton's future replacement.

Ta'amu can eat shit and hit the road for all I care. Those actions should no longer be allowed in this league. Dumb ass young punks who just don't understand the chance of a lifetime. Too bad.

"Retire," lol. He got fired in about 10 minutes. Holmgren was collecting about $8.3 million a year (and will continue to do so for doing nothing the next 2 years under his 5-year deal) to work from 10 am to 2 pm and make frequent trips to Seattle and Arizona. For whatever reason, the guy came here and simply didn't work hard enough to produce results. My theory is he came here *thinking* he was hungry for one more NFL job, but then realized after getting into the job that he simply didn't have the desire to work that hard. Then, he realized he had an $8.3 million deal GUARANTEED and a complete absentee owner who was not going to make him work (former owner Randy Lerner), so he did what most humans would do: he mailed it in.

Giving someone that much money in that situation is simply a moral hazard. His contract should have been incentivized to let him earn that much contingent on the team's results. Maybe that would have resulted in some poor long-term choices (e.g., signing a marquee but aging free agent for big bucks, etc), but it would have at least produced a better effort than we got from the so-called Big Show. Too bad he was a No Show here. His time in Cleveland will not be remembered well. The most memorable moment of his tenure will probably be the moment last year when he snapped on the Cleveland media (who had been riding him hard for his absenteeism and unwillingness to speak to the press or fans) "Don't come to me for playoff tickets." Unfortunately Mike, nobody will be coming to you for playoff tickets. In nearly 3 full years, your tenure produced a grand total of 11 wins.
