Agreed. They need to get rid of Goodell soon he is useless.

Have to say he is the first out of the three we've had that i think is very bad for the game overall. It is scary some of the things that might come to pass in the next few years.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not sure that I've ever come across a professional athlete like Sanders who genuinely didn't care about his personal stats. I agree with Travis than there was absolutely nothing better than watching this dude simply hand the ball back to the official after scoring a TD. No spiking, no "Lambeau Leap", no funky dancing. Just a recognition that he had been there before and wasn't there to show anyone up. The guy simply didn't care for the spotlight and was a VERY reluctant superstar. I thought the bashing he took from some (I think Ed on this sight was one of them, if I'm not mistaken) was fucking ridiculous. As if the guy didn't have the right to retire, after playing 10 freakin' years in a brutal league! He'll always be my favorite running back, ever. They simply don't make them like him anymore. I want to slap the shit out of every Cowgirls fan who claims Emmitt was better. By the way, the talent level between those two guys wasn't fucking close! Emmitt was an average back (yes, I said average, and stand behind it) who ran behind the greatest offensive lines ever assembled. Conversely, Barry never had a line to run behind and did it all himself, to an astonishingly GREAT level!

Commissioner Roger Goodell recently discussed a proposal to eliminate kickoffs with Rich McKay, the head of the league's competition committee, Time magazine reported.

Goodell and McKay discussed an idea brought up by Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano in which a team, instead of kicking off, would get the ball at its own 30-yard line in a fourth-and-15 situation. The team then would punt the ball away or, to replace an onside kick, could go for it and, if they failed to get a first down, the opposing squad would start with great field position.

"The fact is, it's a much different end of the play," Goodell said during the meeting, according to Time.

WTF, am I reading this right, after scoring a TD or FG, instead of kicking off, the scoring team gets a chance to keep the ball by getting a first down again.

Do Goodell and McKay have concussions we don't know about?

I know they're trying to reduce injuries, but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. If you want to eliminate kickoffs, give them the ball on their own goal line or 1 yard line.

More of Goodell's ignorant ideas. Can you imagine what Tom Landry,Vince Lombardi,Pete Rozelle would've thought of some of these harebrained concepts our new commissioner is touting these days......

Beating Goodell up over this shit is just plain, dopey. It's no different than the morons blaming Gary Bettman for the NHL not playing hockey right now. People...Commissioners work for the owners, period, end of story! Why people think League Commissioners unilaterally change rules and make lockouts happen is beyond my comprehension. Commissioners really don't have that much power. If the NFL wanted to get rid of kickoffs (which won't happen), all of the teams would have to vote on it, and it would have absolutely NOTHING to do with the Commissioner.

Kids playing Pop Warner simply need to re-learn football fundamentals. The problem in the NFL isn't kickoffs. It's the fact that the players are really fucking stupid, and don't even know how to properly tackle an opposing player. Many of these guys still lead with their head. In my opinion, a player should be immediately suspended for 4 games for a first offense of leading with his head, 8 games for a second offense, and an entire season for a three time offender. Believe me...the players would get the message, and a lot of this wrecklessness would end!

I'm speechless with this gem. Miami Dolphins player claims the Patriots were "disrespectful" on their final drive on Sunday's game because they kept running the ball. Keep in mind that the Patriots were up only 7 points and trying to kill the clock. Unreal. Now, I know I've heard it all

“It really (ticked) me off. It was disrespectful to us to run the same play over and over and be successful,” defensive tackle Tony McDaniel told the Palm Beach Post’s Brian Biggane. “Normally when somebody’s driving down the field you just think, ‘Well, they just had a good run there,’ but you run the same play over and over, as a competitor that (ticks) me off.”

What a bunch of sour grapes that is. If you can't stop the run, you need to take a look at yourself, not the ones being successful running the ball against you. That beats all I've ever heard.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Troy Polamalu, the soft-spoken, wonderful human being who barely says a bad word to his greatest of foes, called the league a "pansy league" years ago. It's just now that players like Ed Reed and whoever else (take your pick) is now chattering off the same horseshit we've been saying since this transition started.

Defense is now dead for the time being. Hard hits are to be no more. Now, the entire landscape of the game could jump the shark.

Gritty performance by Baltimore today (pains me to say it because I fucking HATE Joe Dickhead)! On another note, typical Cowgirls performance (God, they suck). Also, what a completely embarrassing performance by the Steelers. I am stunned that a team as fucking AWFUL as San Diego is could go into Pittsburgh and punch the Steelers right in the mouth. Pathetic performance by both the Steelers and Falcons today. So long Steelers!

Do you know something I don't John? Dallas game is far from over. I hope Cinci wins though.

EDIT: And neither is Balti! Wow. Kirk Cousins is playing spoiler while RG3 nurses his hurt leg. Great stuff.

Actually Matt, my point doesn't change. The Cowgirls are morons. Their dopey fans were all over every internet message board talking about how Romo is a Hall of Famer and celebrating like they just won The Super Bowl (for the record, if they playoffs started today, they would be on the outside looking in). Great comeback by the Redskins. Steelers fans are going to be fucking elated (well, as elated as one can be after witnessing that fucking shit show) that Baltimore and Cincy both lost. This is a crazy year in the NFL. I almost expect to see the Patriots lose by 21 tomorrow night. They remain the only team in the NFL this season who hasn't got their asses handed to them in at least one game. It's tough for me to take teams like San Francisco seriously, when they can't beat St. Louis once this season, or Atlanta who got completely dominated by a bad Panthers team.

I think today's performance by the Steelers was 10X as awful as the 8 turnover day in Cleveland and that was butt-hole AWFUL. Cincy & Balty both lost but who's to kid, this conference is New England's, Denver's & Houston's to lose. Everybody else isn't a threat. Maybe the Colts as a Wild Card upset. Can't wait for the Monday Night game, these eyes saw way too much bad football for my liking today.

I couldn't agree more. There are only three teams in the AFC who I view as a serious threat and they are the three you mentioned. Obviously, it's the NFL and anything can happen. That said, if the AFC representative at The Super Bowl isn't Denver, New England, or Houston, I will be absolutely stunned.

Odd fact about tonight's Monday night game. It's the first time since 2005 that the Patriots will be facing an opponent in December who has a better record than they have. The Patriots haven't lost a single game in the second half of the season in the past three seasons. Something has to give tonight!

The Jets will probably win all of their remaining games, as their schedule is very easy. That said, you have a better shot of seeing the Kansas City Chiefs in The Super Bowl. The Jets are an awful team!

That's wha they want you to think. It's all just part of their strategy. They're trying to make other teams feel over-confident so those teams lower their defenses. Then, once the Jets get to the play-offs, they'll catch everyone off-guard with how incredibly awesome they are!

Welcome to Pittsburgh 2012. Their doing their best impersonation of the 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers. Fuck being afraid of New England, Denver and Houston. I'm scared to absolute fucking DEATH of ANY 2-4 win football team in the AFC. The Steelers show they can beat Baltimore & N.Y on the road and RGIII at home, but can't handle the Oakland, Tennessee, Cleveland & the San Diego's of the world. Pathetic.

The reason why I'm picking New England to represent, is coaching. You NEVER see them stooge all over the field on each other against bad teams. They go in, well coached, focused and put on ass kicking's to teams their favored against, good OR bad teams. It doesn't matter. New England comes to play and that's in every game since 2001. Denver may be a tough game in Mile High, but New England is my AFC representative in the Super Bowl and expect them to hand Houston their ass tonight.

They've already exceeded my expectations. I thought they'd win 3 games at most and they've doubled that. Their defense is keeping them alive in the winnable games in spite of the injuries they've suffered through the season.

While I don't disagree with your point on the coaching angle with New England, I couldn't disagree more about tonight's game. Belichick is the greatest football coach I've ever witnessed. In fact, he's the only NFL head coach who I've ever seen constantly coaching his team during a game (and it doesn't matter whether it's offense or defense). As for tonight's game, it's a coin flip for me as to which team will win. I don't see either of these teams winning this game by more than a TD and will be surprised if the results are anything but a very close game between two solid teams. Houston is the real deal. They're probably the most balanced team in the entire NFL.

I thought the Niners would have shot against the Pats.. but given how little the 9er offense scores, even with Kepernick... I'm thinking even though the Niner D will keep the score close.. Brady will get at least 14-21 points.. and that should beat the Niners.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Yeah, all jokes aside, with injuries at the start of the season, combined with the quarterback fiasco, I really had very, very low expectations for the Jets this season. The fact that they're still not completely out of the running for a shot at the playoffs is more than I'd realistically hoped for.
The one good thing about the Jets this season, though, is that I can watch their games completely stress-free. I'm a fan of both the Jets and the Giants, but I get much more stressed out watching the Giants because their games actually matter. I KNOW the Jets aren't going to get to the Super Bowl (and probably not even the play-offs), so when I watch them play, it doesn't really matter to me what happens, and more often than not, they provide some good comedy.

It's a GOOD test for both teams. I just think when it boils down to it, Bellichick has the tools to make QB's like Shaub try and keep up with Brady, who rarely makes mistakes. It seems like overly aggressive defense's like Houston struggle with oiled machines like New England and that's what they are. New England is balanced as well. I'm mightily impressed with their running game that adds extra dimension of defense's feeling off-balanced. Maybe you can vouch for it, but I don't see much vertical passing for New England as Houston is the opposite but it all boils down to Bellichick forcing Houston out of their game plan and he's the best coach in the game to do it. New England may not be the defense Houston is, but their one of the best opportunistic defense's when putting pressure on teams to perform to their level.
