The question is will there even be a Regurgitation III? I get the impression that you won't see it. Frankly, I never saw the point of bands re-recording their back catalog for anything other then circumventing the record labels that own the originals and to milk the catalog as much as they can. There's nothing artistic about it when they are basically the same thing as the originals.

what would be really cool is that DDY and Styx would do one more EP and a limited tour, and then call it quits.

I could live with that.

As far as Regen 3 goes, if there was gonna be one, they'd had of released it by now.

Why would you even want a Regurgitation 3 album? Just record new music...

And we all know how he feels about that possibility. 8)

they do it to keep the copyrights. Lots of bands from that era are doing it to regain control of copyrights and publishing.

but what good is it if radio stations and commercials will only play the originals. It's one thing if all the members are still together in the band, it is another if you cut out the orignal singer.

Commercials and I think movie soundtracks have used re-records. If I remember correctly, Mr Roboto for the VW commercial was a re-record.

Yes it was. That way they can get it into the timeframe they need at the tempo they need. It's not always exactly right from the album. And if someone wants it, you would re-record it. But Regurgetation was just a play to remove Dennis from the history of the band, not to get the royalties from A&M. If the goal was to get the royalties away from A&M then they would use the Regurgetation cuts in their promos. Even Styx deep down knows they can't do that.

The NASCAR race a few weeks ago played the original Renegade as one of its songs.

First, Boomchild, I see we have dueling album covers....

Lots of bands are doing the re-treads. Some are better than others. The few Def Leppard tracks I have heard are VERY close to the original. In fact I couldn't tell a difference in Hysteria. Stryper's new re-records are different sounding than the originals (Second Coming) but are wayyyy better than the originals due to better production. Foreigners re-records are pretty good. Of all the ones I have heard the ones from Styx are the least appealing (to my ears anyway). The re-records are very thin sounding and "tinny". Of all of them the only one I found enjoyable was the new version of Crystal Ball. Add The Scorpions to that same list. Their new versions are not even close to the originals.

And I understand why they do it and good for them. But most of them I'll pass.
