DDY opening for REO Speedwagon

Postby Archetype » Fri Mar 15, 2013 3:39 pm

Given REO's connection to current Styx, do you think they'll have any questions for Dennis or preconceived notions about Dennis?

I'm surprised dennis would even agree to this. Should be an interesting
conversation between dennis and kc. Night ranger is on the bill too. Man
that would be a great show.

I thought I read somewhere that Dennis and KC were pretty good friends? At any rate, I think that Dennis would be just as tactful as he has been when talking about this subject. At this point I think on a personal level this thing is old news and it's only the press and the public that even focuses on it.

It's a business. Bret Michaels opened for Def Leppard after dogging them out for lip syncing. You do what pays the bills.
Also, unless you are Roger Waters, any artist with "featuring the music of" in their name isn't going to be headlining over too many other well known acts (with the exception being Night Ranger, who everybody headlines over).

That's the first thing I thought. They're a really great group.

Also, years ago right after the split Dennis got along fine with Uncle Ted. Forgot what tv show it was but they looked like pals on the show.

I have yet to see Dennis DeYoung live in concert, but I have had the opportunity to see REO Speedwagon and Night Ranger in concert. REO isn't too shabby live - although Cronin's vocals aren't what they used to be (not everybody can be DeYoung  ) but Night Ranger puts on a heck of a concert!

If that triple bill ever came close to me, I'd definitely go see that!

I remember seeing them on some show on VH-1, they were rating the best music of all time or something.

I think it's "What's My 20?" I can't find it listed anywhere or the clip on VH1. I'm pretty sure I have a copy of the show.

I saw NR last summer, they were NOT very good at all, sounded very flat, Cheap Trick came out afterwards and made everyone forget about NR.

It was called "The List." 4 random guests would rate songs/artists and create a definitive "list." Ted (Ugh. So hate that guy ... but I digress) and Dennis were on with, I forget now who the two others were. Plus a moderator. Dennis put The Who on his list and I remember him standing up and doing Townshend's signature guitar move. He was, of course, very funny. They all got along quite well. I also remember Dennis getting a lot of love from the audience.

It is somewhere in my collection of stuff gathered from oh-so-many places over the years.

Kevin Cronin isn't the original lead singer to REO, even if he helped make them popular or basically runs the show now. And though the music might be good enough still, the Kevin's voice is terrible, and has been for 10-15 years minimum. Back in the 80's Kevin had a great voice for what they were doing.

Having seen DDY solo and with Styx. I'd prefer seeing him solo, versus seeing Styx. I was very turned off when I saw Styx with Gowan on their first tour with him. Burtnik was still with them and would have been better than Gowan was or is for Styx.

Night Ranger never lost if from the time I saw them in 85 opening for Starship. Even if they did do things differently at times.

DDY should definitely be the headliner.

Wow! That festival is one helluva 3-night event. Great music every night!

Because he's available for hire for private functions and events. His entire appearance calendar is listed so that event planners can look at it and see if he's available for an event they are planning - and you still have to make arrangements through his agent/agency. Why some acts do this and others don't, I haven't a clue. Journey, for instance, is hire-able but to find out the dates they're available you have to contact their mgmt/booking agent.

Probably to let people know "YES we do private gigs". My bands do the same.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
