No, but clearly no interest in doing that - at least on JY's part. And Tommy scratched that itch on the Great Divide.

Not saying they do...just saying they could - with little effort and not much expense. Hell, write five songs. Perform an extended concert somewhere, record it live and release in on CD/DVD. they already did that somewhat with the CYO...just add MORE new stuff so it's worth buying.

None of this is difficult, or beyond a reasonable effort on their part.

You don't say! I have no idea how this business works  It's clear they don't want to go down this road.

Why do you take this as a personal attack, rolling eyes and all? All I am saying is there are options if 'profit' is all they care about.

Is it that offensive to you that I present other viable options in these scenarios? I'm not attacking your authoritah here. But, you sure are showing a lack of maturity, and professionalism.

Monker, we agree!! I get real tired of Alan's "holier than thou persona" that he knows more than everyone about everything music related. Give it a rest Alan. It makes you sound like a insecure academic...

I have no agenda nor did I take anything personally. Anyone with half a brain realizes the artist can make more by doing something like releasing this stuff themselves. For the record, speaking as someone who actually is self publishing a book and has self published music, I also have a bit more insight than some of you on what goes on behind the scenes. It's all possible, but that takes desire on the part of either Dennis or Styx. It doesn't seem to be there. So let it be.

I would be pleasantly surprised to get some new music from either (even if I wound up not liking it), but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Now I remember why I stopped posting here. I say my mind and be done with it. Sorry if that offends you lot. Get over yourselves.

With that, back to not posting here. Enjoy!

okay. What can they do next? They have already done how many live albums, covers album, and also DonE 2 studio albums in there entirety. What else could they do to keep things fresh. I can't see them just touring and releasing another live album of some sorts in another 2 years or so. What is next? Just constant touring? My wife even mentioned "how many versions of a live album can you have?" I have bought almost everything they have done, but I am itching for something new. I will not buy another live album from them. I must have five or six live recordings of Renegade etc. I know there has to be creative juices flowing in that band. It takes money to put out a live album , so take that money got into Tommy's studio and at least make a short EP and sell it on Styxwold. or how about this. Just get in touch with Dennis again, and mend some bridges. I know a full-blown reunion will not happen but at least maybe bring him back for a appearance at a concert every once in awhile.

Well, if he is so fragile and needs to play a victim so often, maybe he shouldn't be posting anyway.

It's his decision...people have put up with far more here than those couple posts.

If I understand it correctly, it is much less expensive to put out a live album then a new studio album and it does not take as much creative effort. As some have pointed out here, the band does have several options to put out new material in a cost effective manner. It just boils down to they are not interested in doing so. They appear to be content with just performing live. In my opinion we will never see any type of mending fences with DDY nor a reunion of any sort. That would mean that they would have to perform material that JY and TS feel is not a the core of what Styx was as a band. Since the split they have made this very clear and I am sure they are not interested in going in reverse even if it was for a few special events. The fans in both camps need to accept that it "is what it is". I'm sure that they are well aware that some fans would like to see new material since it's been talked about for years now. It just is not going to happen. Both Styx and DDY seem perfectly happy doing what they are doing for as long as it is viable. In short, "the fat lady has sung" when it comes to new material.

Just had to pop in and say thanks for the laugh as I'm reading the posts.

I think it had been, what, at least a year (or more) since I last posted here. Often indeed, monker. I'm a victim? Fragile? Right. I used to come here a lot and post frequently. But eventually, like many others who don't post much if at all, the same old, same old got tired. I can handle myself just fine. I don't enjoy these exchanges, and this one is a perfect example. They're not fun, and why would I waste my time on a regular basis doing this? That's why I generally choose not to engage. I've got a set. Heck, I go toe to toe with corporate lawyers quite often. You guys are lightweights. A few posters on a board making me curl up into the fetal position? Don't flatter yourselves. I launched no attacks at anyone, yet it seems you guys have the holier than thou attitude - not me.

The mere fact that any of you humorless buffoons didn't pick up on the fact the eyeroll was sarcasm and thought I took it personally says more about you than me. Seriously thanks for the laughs all of this has brought me.

For the record, you're mistaking confidence here for something else, Toph. Like I said, I state my mind. You can disagree, but I'm always definitive. I don't blink. Did I punch one of your family members in a former life or something? I have never met you and have not really interacted with you directly much over the years, so I have no idea why your panties are all knotted up. Are you an active musician who makes music? I am. Have you ever self published a book or sold a CD of your own creation? I have. My comments often come from a mixture of experience, knowledge due to interactions with the band over the years, etc. I don't need to prove myself to anyone, let alone you.

Think about this: You and Toph are acting more alike then either of you realize. You both left the forum in a post of "poor me" victimhood...blaming everybody else but yourself and your own inability to handle yourself emotionally. Then you have to come back, trying to save face.

This is all a circular game of bullshit. A blame, shame and victim game. If you want to talk about Styx, talk about Styx. It's YOUR decision...don't try to make it seem like somebody else made it for you.

BTW, go Google and read about the Drama Triangle. It will help with your work, too...cuz you obviously have some issue there or you wouldn't have brought it up. Pink, you too...since you are acting like a rescuer/enabler...giving applause and encouraging a drama queen doesn't help anything, it only gives them more drive to do it again.

It truly is disappointing as a fan of Styx that they don't see the need to make a new album which seems to be just because of the money. Toto is making a new album this year and I can't wait to hear it, I cant imagine it would sell anymore than a Styx album would, but yet they are putting one together for the fans and themselves. I will hold out hope that Styx will change their minds. I am a fan of the traditional line-up of Styx, but I would love to hear the current line-up do something together, especially with Ricky having input and Gowan as well, they are both great song writers.

There are lots of factors. Toto still is quite huge outside the USA and has always been more than a nostalgia act in the rest of the world. To most in the US, it's "Hold the Line", "Rosanna", "Africa", and a few other songs. Styx and Dennis clearly have reached a crossroads where they have mainly become nostalgia acts. I've said many times I think Tommy has lost a lot of his rock muse, and the fact he did The Great Divide before anything major Styx (not counting the mediocre newer songs like "Just Be") says a lot. In interviews, JY has alluded to they may, or may not, do new snogs. We all know the economics are not there for brick and mortar. If they truly wanted to do something, they would. They certainly are not on the road as much, and Regeneration was all done basically in their home studios (and sounds like it, too; could have used a bit more care sonically). People need to accept Styx for the band it is today, not the record making machine it was from 1975 - 1983.

Actually, what you just wrote shows how little you understand about what I said, and you quoted...and again you get all offended over NOTHING, take it personal, and start going on the offense...because your imagination dreamt up a reason for you to be a victim.

You are an incredibly insecure person. You are insecure on this forum. You are insecure about your work. How is your family life, do you want to bring that drama to the forum, too?

I think that's the whole point. Also, no amount of begging or pleading by the fan base for them to do it is going to motivate them. The only way I could see this happening if Styx and\or DDY were approached by a label to do it. Such as DDY was for OYFN. Clearly, they as well as DDY seem to be happy just taking the easy money.

Your chances of that are slim and none from the original recordings. As Mark points out, some has appeared elsewhere. For example, "It Takes Love To Make Love" was one of those songs. They took out Glen's voice and put in Tommy's.

It's not like you'll ever get a deluxe edition of Edge with that stuff on a bonus disc. Hell may freeze over first.

It's a pity because Edge was one of my favorite "feel good" albums and my old copy is now missing. A deluxe version with some bonus Edge 2 material would be awesome. I think Styx has been their own worst enemy in a lot of ways with the way they chose singles and other releases. Edge could have been a lot bigger, IMO.

We can only hope there is some kind of classic rock resurgence. We saw some classic rock acts at the Grammy's and just maybe there is some renewed interest. Yea maybe someone will offer them money to make a new album. I could see that happening esp for DDY. I heard his last album was a success especially in Canada. Not sure if he would want to do it again though.

I think DDY would, if he is given the right offer to do it.
