Looking for an old Tommy interview

Postby Archetype » Tue Mar 25, 2014 4:11 am

I think it was from the early 1990s, maybe while he was in Damn Yankees. He was explaining what an egomaniac JY was and how you better watch out or JY will sic his lawyers on you. Basically he was blaming JY for everything that they have now ganged up and blame DDY for.

i dont ever remember seeing an interview like that........and it seems a bit strange especially considering that Tommy had just recently asked JY to participate in doing some background vocals on his "Ambition" release right before he joined Damn Yankees...

I'm not saying he never said it, but I dont recall ever seeing that in an interview he did.

Yes, there is an interview out there in which he slams JY. Sterling even quotes it in his book. Probably could look it up in his bibliography.

I seem to remember this from reading Sterling's book too. I think Tommy used to get a chuckle out of all the letters he used to get from JY's panel of lawyers when JY was not happy about something.

I do know that JY was furious with Tommy with leaving in 83 and was also irritated with him during the DY and Styx 1991 tours. I believe it was at this time that Tommy sold back all his rights to Styx and a new
Legal agreement was drawn up officially severing ties with he and the band. Tommy thought he had a good thing going with DY and never saw himself returning to Styx. Of course that all changed 4 years later.

I'm pretty sure those comments were from an interview Sterling conducted with Tommy back in the early '90s.

Yep, it's the 1993 Sterling interview.

here's what I'm wondering......when Tommy rejoined Styx in 96 with everyone but John, did they return his partnership back to him at that time? surely, some kind of ownership had to come back to him at that time, otherwise it would have basically been JY against DDY a few years later during the lawsuit for rights to use the Styx name....wasnt Tommy a part of that lawsuit?

Interesting in that he is much more complimentary of Dennis than JY.
