April 23, 2014 – Responsible for some of Rock's most indelible summer anthems, legendary groups Foreigner and Styx will release The Soundtrack Of Summer on May 6 to coincide with their highly anticipated tour of the same name, which also features very special guest Don Felder, former guitarist of The Eagles. The album, which features 16 classics by both bands, will be available exclusively at Walmart. Pre-orders are available on Walmart's website.
The Soundtrack Of Summer package includes Foreigner hits “Cold As Ice,” “Juke Box Hero” and “I Want To Know What Love Is,” and Styx hits “The Grand Illusion,” “Blue Collar Man” and “Renegade” (see below for a complete track listing). The collection finishes with the spectacular highlight, a brand new interpretation of one of Classic Rock's most successful songs ever, “Hotel California.” Original songwriter Don Felder teamed up with Styx and Foreigner for this very special collaboration, as well as a stunning new version of Foreigner's massive hit, “I Want To Know What Love Is,” which will only be available as a limited edition vinyl disc and on iTunes.
Fans can check out an exclusive stream of “Hotel California” on USA Today's website, which went live earlier today.
Here's the complete track listing of The Soundtrack Of Summer: 1. Feels Like The First Time 2. Cold As Ice 3. Hot Blooded 4. Double Vision 5. Urgent 6. Waiting For A Girl Like You 7. I Want To Know What Love Is 8. Juke Box Hero 9. The Grand Illusion 10. Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man) 11. Lorelei 12. Crystal Ball 13. Blue Collar Man (Long Nights) 14. Miss America 15. What is odd is that its a Don Henley vocally led song. What's Don Felder have to do with it? Wait, I see he was a co-writer of the song. But still, if I was a hard core Eagles fan, that would piss me off. Felder is definitely the JY of that band since Henley and Frey were the two main vocalists. It would be like JY singing Come Sail Away....

In recent interviews Felder claims that he wrote the entire music for Hotel California and Henley wrote the lyrics since Henley did not like the lyrics that Felder wrote. Felder also claims that he has a demo tape to prove he wrote the music. The Eagles drama makes the drama that unfolded in Styx look like a love story. At least from what has been said in public.
ztyxlynne wrote:The Eagles last album, Long Road out of Eden was good album, not great. It did however seem like a couple solo album's put together to make a double album. Henley had his style, Fry was mostly love songs and ballads and throw a couple off the wall silly Walsh tracks. Oh and the one Timothy B Schmidt love song. And yes I have totally given up on a new Styx album. We can't even get one new song on a hits package. We get anther retread of a old song.

Also, I believe that he was wanting to sing it originally (I may have my Felder tunes/stories confused). After laying down the tracks, and I believe, Felder doing a rough vocal, the session ended. They went away for a few days and when they reconvened, Don Henley had recorded a lead vocal on it without telling Felder. I know that happened with one of his tracks (at least) and I think it was HC. Now, Felder really doesn't come across as bitter about that more than disappointed. He has glowing things to say about Henley as a singer (who wouldn't?).
It's a really good book and pretty much confirmed for me what a complete jerk Glen Frey is. Without Felder, The Eagles are music to get your teeth cleaned by. Seriously, their last album had absolutely NO fire to it. Even Walsh couldn't save it.

By now it should be clear to everyone that there is no interest in putting out new material. An artist, I think it was Joe Walsh said that if all you do is go out and play your old stuff and don't play new music, you eventually become a caricature of yourself.

"Just Be", 2006
"Everything All the Time", 2006
"All I Want", 2006
"Ring the Bells", 2006
"Can't Stop Rockin"" (with REO), 2009
"Difference In the World", 2010

I could swear that was the type of material that Styx "wasn't about" and TS and JY wanted to get away from doing. Hmm.... that's odd.
