'Justice' is served with another helping of Superman

By bringing in more DC Comics do-gooders such as Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher), the new movie is thicker, denser and more epic than Man of Steel, according to Snyder. Man of Steel was all about Superman finding his place in the world as both a hero and as a man, ultimately saving the city of Metropolis from certain doom. Dawn of Justice continues to immerse him on Earth by working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). But it also takes him to new environments such as Gotham City and introduces larger threats, including Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg).

Really digging in and evolving the character — both as Clark and as Superman — is a challenge, Snyder says, but there's also "the fun of trying to figure out what to put in front of him that's difficult."

Cavill is definitely more comfortable in the role the second time around, says the director.

"We've both created this guy and we can push him around a little bit," he says. "The more time I spend with Henry, the more he's Superman to me."

The debuting heroes Superman meets will affect his perspective on Earth and on the ones he loves, and Snyder feels his convictions will be drawn into question as well. Snyder's only done a few scenes so far with Cavill and Affleck together, but the historical significance isn't lost on him, he says. "It's never really been done and it's kinda cool."

Similarly, Snyder also knows that putting the iconic superheroine Wonder Woman on a movie screen is a big deal, too. He says he hasn't filmed any scenes with Gadot as the Amazonian princess yet, but "she's working out and getting buff and ripped."

While Snyder is surprised in a way that fans are already so pumped for Dawn of Justice, he also understands the anticipation.

"You can talk all you want about other superhero movies, but it's Batman and Superman, let's just be honest," Snyder says. "I don't know how you get bigger than that."

"Man of Steel" officially crosses the 100M sales mark for Blu-Ray and DVD. At 5.1M copies combined, it is 4th for 2013 behind Despicable Me 2, Frozen and Fast and Furious 6. It has actually outsold "Catching Fire" shockingly enough.

Who the fuck is John Tater? Is that the alter ego of Aquaman's sidekick, Spongebob Tightpants? Sorry, never heard of him.

No specific plot details or spoilers, but some updates on what we can expect in terms of visuals for superpowers in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. There are tests already being done to coincide with Justice League as well, because production will likely be moving much faster on the next installment. The current visual effects team is working on new powers that were not displayed in Man of Steel, as well as updates to previous powers that were seen. One of the new characters is going to push the limits of Superman’s speed, and there are a multitude of different types of effects being tested to show different types of “speed moments” There is a test in showing a vibration effect where the character almost seems to disappear.

Another test shot has a buildup of wind, ice, and debris which move in a tornado formation around a growing blur that outlines the characters body. Also there is a speed effect similar to bullet time to show more of a superhero perspective, where the audience sees how time and speed are slowed down the faster that the character moves. I immediately thought of old scenes from Spiderman and episodes of Smallville but have been promised while it is meant to demonstrate the same perspective; it will incorporate a lot of effects for surrounding objects as well.

In one of the test shots for example, a ball is being thrown and the character sees it spinning slowly. As the character speeds up, the ball slows down more but still moves. Everything around the character is still moving. Eventually as full speed is realized the ball is almost to a complete stop and bright glowing bolts (kind of like lightning) start to appear and the rest of the environment is paused. The ball is grabbed by the character, and just as it is grabbed we see movement beginning to happen again, and the bolts start disappearing.

Snyder is asking the team to really push for new ways of showing speed. An assistant stated at a meeting that Snyder said pretty much word for word “ I want jaws to f***ing drop. It’s time to shake up the balance of realism, and add a bit of wow factor. People are paying money to see these super powered beings in all their glory. It has to look awesome, better than anything they have ever seen in any superhero movie. Look at the competition (Avengers), we will have characters doing things that they can’t do. It’s gotta be shown and blow people away…”

^^^YES to pushing the envelope. All they have to do is open the comics and adapt the visualizations of exhibition of powers they see on the page. Presto.

This will be TNC's favorite movie EVER!! Till Justice League, that is. :D

If Snyder thinks this is the most important thing in making a great movie, he must love the Transformers movies. Special effects are pretty cool, but crap movies. Must be why he's throwing everyone and their brother and sister in this thing. Gotta show as many characters doing jaw dropping things as possible. This is the Michael Bay theory of film-making. Seriously go see Transformers 4, 3 hours of special effects torture. Glad I saw it at the drive in and paid for tickets to see Earth to Echo, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 instead. Contrast that to Captain America: TWS. Great story and building on the story that was told in CA: TFA

Yup, it'll be better than Avengers because none of them were able to be shown banging a Manatee like Aquaman can!

Snyder's right. Dc isnt Marvel. Marvel isn't Dc. They exist completely on other ends of the spectrum when it comes to capabilities in powerset. The roles in BvS aren't going to be big for these cameos but they are going straight into filming JL so it makes sense to get this thing down. All Snyder needs is a good screenwriter and they got that with Terrio. Goyer has good ideas, but Terrio can make this thing work. Like I said, DC is closing the gap in one movie.

So f%%$$&& awesome. Been working a 7 day schedule and I lucked out I got a weekend off that happens to be SDCC weekend. I'll be away tomorrow but I already told my girl that Saturday (when the WB panel goes on) I'm parking my ass and will be engulfed in Comic Con news. Expect some HUGE things from DC. They are already off to a bang.

Saturday is definitely the day something will drop. I'm not sure if that still is part of a triptych featuring all three. It'd be nice to see some kind of image of at least Wonder Woman. That's what people are seriously hoping for. If anything gets posted tomorrow, I'll stick it here.

If Dwayne Johnson is Black Adam (maybe), then who would be...?

Btw, did you see the five pencilled pages (no inks yet) that were shown from Batman: Earth One Vol. 2? Holy shit, they look amazing. It's a sequence; here's the fourth, Pg. 71:

Yeah, that looks total badass. I love the way the shape of the Bat-symbol is drawn on his suit. I haven't read the Batman:L Earth One books, just Supes. It's either hit or miss with fans but I've enjoyed the series.

Looks like WB wants Argo's Oscar-winning scriptman Chris Terrio to apply his magic to Justice League. That should make a lot of people happy.

She looks awesome. Suck it, naysayers!

Here's what was posted on Schmoes Know about the footage Zack showed. I can't wait to see this go down!

Zack Snyder who opened the WB panel with nothing less than the first meeting with Supes and Bats. And here it is:

(UPDATED)Imagine Batman is in a huge metal suit to prepare for Superman. And yes, it is very reminiscent of the suit he wore in Miller’s THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. The similarities are there and it really shows we are getting inspiration from the comic, just as it was announced last year.

The suit looks like no other Batman we’ve seen before. Batman is standing in the rain and pops on… THE BAT SIGNAL. And there in the sky is Superman. Floating there, looking at Batman. And boy is Superman pissed. His eyes turn red and lock on to Bats. Bats senses it, turns to look at Superman and his eyes light up– to black. End of teaser.

And the crowd goes absolutely ape-shit.

You suck it. This movie looks stupid. A skank holding a sword atop of a volcano wearing a pageant crown? Looks like an outtake from Slave of the Cannibal God 3. If you can explain to me how this powder puff along with Fish Man (or whatever) will fit into Nolan's semi-grounded universe I would love to heat it. Total train wreck. Marvel engaged in painstaking cinematic world building. DC is trying to quickly rob an ATM machine and they deserve to fail.

Like I give a fuck. Let me make another prediction - there will be a metric TON of critics and fans who claim Afflek is the best Bat actor yet. How do I know this? Because it happens every time an actor takes on an established role. At one point, Kilmer was the best Batman. Then it was Christian Bale. Just how Pierce Brosnan was heralded by some as the reincarnation of Sean Connery 2.0 and now Daniel Craig is the savior of the 007 franchise, blessed be he. It goes on and on. Same hype, same spin, same bullshit for the non-thinking peons.
