who the fuck wants to see these bands anymore except some of us and 2000 people in florida??????
toph you are 100% right….the demand for styx, foreigner, don felder, dennie deyoung, kansas, boston, cheap trick, reo speed wagon and on and on and on and on and on is all pretty much a fraction of what it was for these folks in their heyday. no argument from me or anyone else…….
so, whats your point? are you just wanting to state the obvious because you are not capable of stating anything else of any substance?
there are a handful or artists in the history of live rock and roll that can still draw crowds as large or larger than their heyday and we can likely count them on one hand……..styx/dennis deyoung is simply not one of those bands regardless of how much we all love them.
for fuck's sake deep purple is touring the states this year and playing fairs and casinos. and they are the mighty deep purple with over 100,000,000 album sales………at least three times as many albums as styx ever sold and certainly they have more of a worldwide appeal as styx and even they are playing fairs and casinos…….so what do you want toph? do you want all these guys to hang up their guitars because they can't play all the enormo domes across the nation?
if you don't like seeing any of it, don't buy a ticket and let those who still want a night of nostalgia go out and have some fun. if you don't know what fun is go google it. it could maybe change your life.

trust me styx does draw more than ddy......the place in florida they just played only holds roughly 2100......so basically the show you talk about was sold out but you make it sound like it was a 2/3 empty building......obviously, the place has some relevancy to bands passing thru clearwater because acts like boston, rob thomas and santana have recently played there as well to similar capacity numbers.
the difference is that this was booked for this particular city.......perhaps that is all they could draw, perhaps other venues of larger size were already booked for something else.....who knows....maybe their managers felt they could make more money filling up a smaller place than booking a larger facility and only selling 4-5 thousand tickets and having part of the room empty.
who knows?
but if you will refer back to the videos I posted pertaining to attendance you can see that in several of the cases they are playing to nice crowds in venues much larger than a maximum capacity of 2100.
you know it, i know it but you want to think that those around are too dumb to realize that......unfortunately for you, that is simply not the case.
and o-n-c-e a-g-a-i-n I will say who gives a flying fuck how many people ANY of these artists can draw anymore? why does it matter so much for you? as long as ddy or styx or forigner or whoever is capable of drawing enough to make it worth their while to play then great for them.

If they could draw more than 2000, I'm sure Brusco would be booking them at a larger venue. Point is, they can't. I'm going by Billboard Boxscore, the official concert counter. Not going by fan videos. The only other concert attendance reported by Boxscore were in Alabama, where in fact the venue was < 1/2 full. Styx and DDY draw about the same. Deal with it.

I'm pretty sure the attendance numbers on the RTP tour was due more to the fact that Styx had not performed together in years. Plus Tommy had returned to the fold. I doubt they would be able to draw numbers like that now. Even thought the classic line up is no longer intact they have been doing show after show, year after year for the past several years. There's nothing special about it. Even if DDY was to return to the fold and they reverted back to a more traditional set list it wouldn't change much. Were talking about an act that is in it's twilight stage.
Toph wrote:I disagree. If they engaged in a big marketing campaign "Dennis is BACK!" - I believe they could do as well as they did during RTP.

masque wrote:dennis being back would help attendance for all involved……but would never get them back to the 96 reunion tour. they may go from 4000 per night to 5000-6000 per night and in some cities maybe even do slightly better but that would be about it based on how you see other similar bands draw.
