Some additional attendance figures

Postby Toph » Tue Aug 12, 2014 4:33 am

Here's two more attendance numbers that I found for the tour, both in Alabama.

Tour is playing to approximately 50% of capacity or a bit more and running $150K - $200K per night. Trying to determine if promoters are making money on it. If you assume Styx and Foreigner are getting $50K each and pay Felder $10-$15K, they should be in the black. Not sure if Styx/Foreigner also take % of gate.

Styx & Foreigner, Don Felder Amphitheater at the Wharf Orange Beach, Ala. May 25, 2014 $192,499 4,525 /
9,039 1 / 0 $95.50, $11 Red Mountain Entertainment

Styx & Foreigner, Don Felder Tuscaloosa Amphitheater Tuscaloosa, Ala. May 29, 2014 $154,084 3,956 /
7,470 1 / 0 $71, $16 in-house/Red Mountain Entertainment

i would say that styx and foreigner are playing for flat fees....say a minimum if you will.........there may be a clause that if they sell a certain amount of tickets they also get a portion of the gate........but i would say that at roughly 4000-5000 per night in places that hold 8000 or so that I doubt if they are selling enough tickets to earn any "bonuses" .

Personally, I think this forum has reached the saturation point when comes to threads on concert attendance. Honestly, I don't see the point. All the posting in the world is not going change peoples viewpoints here.

OH MY GOD!!! This is, like, impossible and stuff. That's it...this MUST be Styx last tour because they will NEVER be able to book a tour again after this disaster. This is just SAD.

THEY ARE TOAST. Stick a fork in them, they are done.

Styx ability to tour is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and left the building with Elvis. It is over. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. It is six feet under and pushing up the daisies. It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible.
Styx has an ex-touring career.

So, you better go see Styx on THIS TOUR, because you'll never get to see them again. Wow, all bow down to the eternal Toph for giving us this insight on a few select dates on this tour so we know we will never be able to see Styx after this tour.

The most simple solution is just to buy one of their more current concert DVDs. You'll get the same redundant show and it will cost you less.

oh i agree.......the tour stats, or at least the ones posted by toph show averages of about 4000 per night.

even to me with styx and foreigner that seems pretty light.

BUT

here's my thing.......all bands have up tours and down tours......im not sure what the expectations for this tour were.....maybe to the bands and promoters they are selling exactly as they figured and everyone is making good money.

if they are not, it wont be the end....both of these bands will eventually trend back up a bit for one reason or another and it will be what's it going to be.......as i have stated before......styx is gonna play shows that draw between 4000-8000 per night depending on who they are with.....thats it....probably will never be any better and may never get any worse as long as they can put on a good show.

but i dont put alot of weight on a bands future because of one particular tour. when KISS toured behind "creatures of the night" Paul Stanley said he could literally flip his pick over the heads of the entire audience many nights on that tour and they were playing arenas and drawing less than 2500 people times. scary to think of.....but they survived.

styx drew huge in 96 and just one year later with dennis still in the band on the grand illusion 97 tour the attendance had dropped WAY off from what it was in 96 on the times I had seen them. why? because i think in 96 it was an event.....styx was back together....the big 3 etc......the timing was great and they had a massive tour.

in 97 the new had worn off a bit and the crowd size dropped dramatically because at that point it wasnt an event and they had likely played that market in the past 15 months.

fast forward 15+ years later and you have a band that has saturated the markets they play over and over again every single year and the the nucleus of the band is still and perhaps forever splintered.

it's like anything else.......all things pretty much run their course and the popularity that styx, dennis and all those bands have today likely represent what it will be for the foreseeable future.
