Just heard a 4 Pack from Styx from 98.1 out of Shreveport. Lady followed by Suite Madame Blue followed Fooling Yourself and the set concluded with Snowblind.

Damn they were good!!!

Back when PT was released I remember one of our local radio stations was playing it.

They play tons of Album classic rock. They play songs like Crime of The Century & School by Supertramp, Gonna Raise Hell & Voices by Cheap Trick, They play Crystal Ball, Rockin The Paradise, Suite Madame Blue(often) etc. Hell Ive heard em play Starrider by Foreigner and Dream Theaters Pull Me Under.

Last night driving home from work their 4 pack started with 'Children Of the Sun' followed by Fight The Good Fight, then 'The Cars' Moving In Stereo and right as I got home I sat in the driveway and listened to their set finish with Goodbye by Night Ranger.

Its one of the best rock stations that Ive ever listened to.

You are right - it got some airplay because it was a mid chart rock track hit. As far as number of Styx songs that got radio airplay, the Paradise Theatre wins hands down.

You had Best of Times and TMTOMH which were huge. RTP which was less huge, but still a mainstay on classic rock and on early MTV. NEGAP peaked just outside of the Top 40 and then you also had Snowblind, a mid chart rock track. 5 damn songs!

Still think that Paradise Theater was missing a second ballad that would have inserted nicely into that third single slot and given them a shot for 3 huge songs on that album. Unlike ESCP43 or Hi-Infidelity or "4" Styx never had the one big album that had 3 or 4 huge top 10 hits. I think that hurt them.

That really wasn't the issue, though there really wasn't an issue with a #1 album that went triple platinum. Nothing Ever Goes should have never been a single much less before RTP. It killed the momentum, which I think has been stated before by someone on here. As much hate as She Cares gets on here I still think it's a decent song and is pretty catchy. Nothing Ever Goes just doesn't work as a single, no clear defined niche. Girls buy albums too, at least back then. So She Cares could've boosted some more sales and probably broke Top 30. Just my opinion.

I think you are right on She Cares. I've always said that musically it is very catchy. The lyrics are stupid, but musically it would have likely found a place at top 40. I think that RTP wasn't officially released as a single was the AD1928 part which obviously is the same melody at BOT. But you could have edited the track and started when the guitars kick in (the officially beginning) and could have just edited out DeYoung's "-dise!!!!!"

I would think that She Cares would have done pretty well as a single. even though the song is not my cup of tea, it is a radio friendly song. The teen girls would have eaten up a song like that.

The question is, if it was suggested as a single would those that were apprehensive about releasing Babe as a single feel the same about She Cares?

Great question! Although, Tommy was apprehensive about releasing his own ballad in HWBHB, but of course he wanted the alternative to be a live version of Cold War, so it was about replacing a song of his with another song of his. The question is whether he would feel the same way, if one of his songs would be replaced with a DDY song.

Nothing says hard rock like Lonely School & Little Girl World.

Tommy had two Headbangers Ball appearances after the release of these ROCKING classics.
