Haven't I Been Here Before

Postby bugsymalone » Thu May 14, 2015 1:44 am

It has been a long time. I still see the usual suspects are here. Just a hiya to everyone.

I am so not into these arguments anymore, and I see they still feed the beast, so to speak. :P

I follow Dennis on Facebook, and that is enough for me, as he posts really funny, interesting stuff about himself, the band, the music, the past and the present. It is always something I wanted him to do. He has found a good forum for his wit and wisdom.

I hope everyone is doing well and it sounds like everyone still enjoys the music from our favorite fracas of a band. That is the good thing.

All the years I wished Dennis to come to Houston, and he did, but I was not able to go. :x I did see him a few years ago not far from Houston, and it was a terrific show.

If he, or I, don't totally play out, I sure hope to see him perform again someday.

Cheers everyone. Keep on listening!!!

I fully agree with your reasoning, but it's those like yourself we need to post more on here. Folks that can offer something other than a Dennis isn't talented or Tommy is s drug addict response. I've stated before how I've grown weary of the pettiness that goes on which is why I really only post on certain threads. The vinyl one is a good one, so far. Anyways, good use of your topic title.

How goes it Bugsy? Long time since I've seen or heard from you.

Hope all is going well.

If you ever get to bend DDY's ear you need to tell him that he should have or still should find a way to Rubicon out there. Its a GREAT GREAT song from an excellent album.

Take care

Hey, Yogs! Are you still in Texas? Hope you and yours are doing very well.

The last time I saw Dennis offstage, I smacked him on his knee as he was sitting in the car and said "I TOLD you you should come to Texas!" (It was a largely sold out show) and he said " I know. I KNOW!"

I mostly tried to catch up with Suzanne, but time was limited for all of us.

He only seems to do music from his last solo album in Canada. Wish he would do some of it in the US shows, but it is hard to fit in with that RTP-style setlist.

Bugsy, Still in good ol' Texas. Same place, trying to win as many games as possible.

I have really gotten into Dream Theater. They are my new favorite and have been for the last 5-6 years. Once I retire and we get the kids out of the house I plan on being a roadie for them( too bad I struggle with even plugging in a toaster). The family is doing great we were actually going to go see Dennis in the Dallas area but he got sick and had to cancel his show and we couldn't make his rescheduled one.

Absolutely loved '100Years From Now'. If he would of come out with an album like that right after Kilroy, when all the boyz went solo he would of been bigger than Phil Collins. Anyway if you are friends with DDY on facebook tell him its not too late to somehow release Rubicon( remember Lady) its a great song that would still have its place today among rock & roll people.

I really hope that you are doing great.

Love it!! Saw their Dramatic Turn Of Events Concert 3 times. My daughter and I were actually 1st row right up against the stage the 2nd time they came to Grand Prairie, TX.

Love their new(newest) self titled album. Wish they would have come to TX with their 4th Wall Tour( Along For The Ride Tour). Enemy Inside is classic, and to me 'The Bigger Picture' is one of the best songs ever by any group The entire album is GREAT, hell its more than GREAT its 100% EIPC.

Every member of the band is the absolute best at what they do. Hell they replaced Portnoy and got better. How is that even possible???

I know it's like an all-star band instrumentally. Petrucci is all over the neck with precise skill. Myung is probably one of the top three bassists around and the only way to improve on Portnoy was to get Mangini. The band is sick. It's impossible to explain to people who really don't know much about music just so how amazingly tight that group is. Another outstanding thing about them is that you get a studio album every other year from them and a live DVD in between. A band that truly cares about its fans.

Everything you said is 100% correct.

It just blows my mind how great they are and I cant wait until their next album and tour. They pretty much did their 'Along For The Ride' shows everywhere but in the US. Hopefully they will bring their next concert to the US & TEXAS!

I really don't see how they couldn't. I mean I realize they get more love overseas, but they do pretty well here too and Texas isn't a state that can be ignored too often.

They keep improving each album with this lineup. I can only imagine how this next will sound. Should be this year.

Bugsy,

Long time for me too. I've rarely posted in the past few years, but do keep up with Sadie65, Suite Madame Blue and Zan on Facebook. Actually met up with Zan in Atlanta to see Glen do a solo acoustic set.

Hope all is well. I still have that Children's Miracle Network DVD that you spliced together for me.

As for Dreamtheater, I'll echo what many have said...favorite current band by a country mile. I've been listening to them since Images and Words came out, so practically from the beginning.

Oddly enough I've never seen them live. They just don't make it Charlotte way very often. Truth be told I'm not sure if they have EVER played here. Guess I'll have to road trip.

Hope all stays well with everyone. Can't believe it's been 12 years since I joined this board....and Styx put out their last album of new material...

Hi, Scott!

Yes, indeed, time does fly. I am still a year older than Dennis, though. :P

I had some correspondence with a friend who mentioned the Beacon hotel in NYC. It took me back to my seeing Dennis with the NY Pops at the Beacon theater, and I stayed right next door at the hotel. I recall that being maybe the best of the orchestra shows I saw him do.

I know he doesn't do them too much anymore, especially with this new band lineup (which is not so new anymore).

I have seen all configurations of his post-Styx shows save an acoustic one, which I would love more than anything to see. Probably not going to happen, though, for me.

Another coincidence! I thought about that CMN show the other day. Despite the roiling band problems going on then, that was a good concert.

Dennis writes really long, funny posts on Facebook and I wish he might talk about that concert someday. 'Twould be interesting.

Hey Bugsy,

I just started stopping back in a couple weeks ago, after being off for about 2 years. I follow Andrew on Facebook and stop in 2 or 3 times a week to the home page here. Other than that I been busy, working in Cleveland TN. It's pretty over here. I became a grand parent a couple of years ago, so my wife and I send a lot of time with our family.
One thing I noticed here, is the more it changes, the more it stays the same.

Wrong again, Froy is that 6'5" goalie (Bishop)that is trying to keep the Hawks from winning the Stanley Cup.

He even lives in Florida, doesn't listen much to groups like Styx anymore. He's more into Jimmy Buffett and music such as that now. He's far far too busy to come slumming around here.

We ALL need to cut the guy some major slack, shi t he's trying to win the Cup.

Yes,he got kicked. Not for life though. Andrew doesn't ban people for life very often . If he wanted to come back all he would have to do is swallow his pride, admit his wrongs, and ask. it will never happened though.

He played GREAT last night. The Hawks are just toooooo damn awesome come playoff time.

If I were a betting man after Froy(Bishop) licks his wounds and his Jimmy Buffett South Florida fascination wears off he will come back on here.

Its tough to lose the Cup and Froy played great. Time will heal this some and then he will return.
