DDY Asks "What Songs We Would Like to Hear"

Postby Boomchild » Fri Feb 05, 2016 12:31 am

A few days ago Dennis posted a message on his FB page asking people to respond with which three songs they would like to hear him play at his shows. I think the replies were very interesting. I was surprised by the amount of songs from the WN era people were suggesting. I think it's worth a look at what people suggested.

Facebook is the place where fwoy for years, has tried to collect enough money for a billboard in the Chicago area.
The billboard was supposed to be a 'Do not see Styx, because Dennis is not there anymore' hopeless attempt.

By the way,Chunks blew fwoy for a change.

Yogi you need to get on Facebook :)

DDY added Queen of Spades in the set list at last night's show.

I'm hoping he will do another Lost Treasure's Show. If he does, I'm sure it will feature more songs never played live before :)

Facebook???

Does this have to do with the Finesse( hair) or Noxema (facial- facebook) products that I once read endorsed DDY??

How is it going Suite?? I hope really well. You used to have Dennis's ear at times. Come on Suite, Roseland is a MUST add, as are Born For Adventure, Golden Lark and Crossing the Rubicon. Paradise from his Hunchback Musical was an AWESOME song. Had it been released back in the day tune would have been easily top 10. How about his last top 40 hit Love At First Sight??? GREAT tune. I know he still loves his wife : 'A Song For Suzanne" was a GREAT Wooden Nickel tune. Shi t I'd love to hear that guy who sings Tommy's songs sing 'Just Get Thru This Night' What an AWESOME song. I'd get on a plane anywhere for about 6 of these in the same show.

Hope all is going GREAT with you. Whats your take on Dream Theater's Astonishing?? I LOVE their entire disc(ACT) 2 plus about 6 or 7 songs off of Disc(Act) 1. A Life Left Behind with it's Alan Parsons sounding intro, Chosen ..... are just awesome. Kind of a take off of Kilroy. I'm betting that they never take their Astonishing show to TX partly based on the BS Tommy and Cahil spewed about the Dallas & Houston Kilroy shows. Just a bunch of rednecks here I guess

Take care

Apparently he played Queen Of Spades, on Saturday.

Any reports of how it sounded, or even any videos?

Some comments in his Facebook page from people who were there seem to suggest that they nailed it.

I can't help but wonder whether or not he hit that big note, right after the guitar solo. (You know which one I mean.) My guess is he passed it to Craig Carter, like he does with 1 or 2 of the notes in Mr. Roboto.

So DDY has released the results of this and provided his thoughts on what was submitted. Here is what he had to say and the results of the poll.

Hey kids,

Thanks to everyone who participated in this poll and special thanks to Laurie for taking the time to add all this up. I started to add this myself about a week ago but after 15 minutes of staring at the the votes I developed some nausea, stood up too quickly and stumbled backwards into a giant pile of kitty litter. And we do not own a cat, very peculiar.

The songs that only received a single vote were not counted simply because
we got one for Don't Stop Believing (curse that song) and one for More Than A Feeling. Some folks who lived during the 70's have memory issues. Had pot been invented yet? Like when people with the best intentions will recount a story to me so heartfelt about the first time they saw us at a place we'd never played with another band we never shared a stage with. I do not correct them because all they are really telling me is how much they like your music and what the hell is wrong with that...Nuttin.

Regarding the top five chosen I have played all these songs in the past ten years at least once. This past month both Queen of Spades and Castle Walls have been performed three times each. It might have been more but when giving the audience a choice they will pick Don't Let it End or Show me the Way every time. One night I offered Don't Stop Believing and the crowd cheered...true story no BS. What's a mother to do? The Queen and her Castle will make occasional visits to our set.

The other two, I'm OK and Borrowed Time have been played sparingly although BT is a cool rocker with amazingly high vocals that my band can quite simply, nail. I know this cause we have fooled with at sound check. I think we will give it a whirl. Stay tuned friends.

Others in the top twenty that appeal to me are First Time at number 13 (that song has nothin but bad luck)and Harry's Hands at nine. I have played a verse of First Time solo several times over the years but never as a band and we have played HH once at the Arcada in St Charles Il. These songs are favorites of mine so let's have at it.

What's interesting to me is the scope of music you guys like from ballads to rockers and everything in between, which says to me, Styx because of it's variety was what so many folks liked about the band.

Was anyone shocked that Weird Al loved Plexiglass Toilet more then some of our other hits, I was not. Dr. Dimento played it a lot and immortalized the lyrics "momma says don't belch and fart" who says we couldn't write lyrics.

Thanks again for voting

Cheers Dennis

As much as I loved Dennis last cd, Private Jones was the only song on it I really did not care about.
