Yo WhoShotDaddy,

Got a letter from the Executive Offices of That Metal Show and they stated: 'they really cant state in public that they read these fourms( Melodic Rock) but my That 70's Show analogy was dead on correct'.

So why dont you take the Southbound Ryan outta here.

This has to get me at least 1 vote for most annoying poster!!!!!!

look here's the deal....i understand what Joe Vana is saying but it's being said in contradiction to what most "fanboys" believe to be the truth.

because most of us "fanboys" have read to our eyes bleed articles on styx or watched interviews with them where they have clearly stated things like the chorus or heavy part of come sail away was written by tommy or the intro of fooling yourself was written by JY and dennis suggested making renegade more uptempo.......but none of those things got actual writing credit......but by the member's own admissions they did happen.

as for JY and renegade i think that may have been a situation that dennis suggested making it up tempo and JY must have been the one jamming on that suggestion.....so they probably were indeed his guitar parts.....but regardless it doesnt matter because none of us were there....none of us were in the room when the songs were created.

so all i can go on is what the band members have said and they have always claimed that regardless of who was listed as the writer that many "writing" contributions went un-documented.

this has also been the case with queen and other bands based on what I have read.

and listen i have written or co-written over 250 songs in my life with a friend of mine and while 98% of the time we have gotten along just fine creating these songs I can promise you 100% that he and I feel differently about who contributed how much and how valuable was there contribution to the song etc....

adn we are just a couple of "wanna-be's" that have written some pretty cool tunes and had some local success in our hometown and regionally.....never really made any money at it but released some indy cd's and sold a few here and there.

but even at that pitiful level there are clear disputes about how much of "song x" was written by him or written by me.

I cant imagine what those disputes and inner feelings must be for bands that have written iconic songs that were true hits and still being played 30-40 years later.

Hey City Slicker,

That's really interesting. I would have thought they would much prefer those solo albums from ah....mmm.. you know "That Tall Blonde Guy from Styx". I heard they thought that one album was really killer with the drum machine and Miami Vice synths. Word has it they were on that like Wild Dogs.

Dear City Slicker.

Can't wait for that! Will it be released on SACD, SHM, K22 or DVD Audio?? I would be rooting for DVD-A with a special surroundo sound mix. Also, I am hoping for extra tracks with song demos and stuff that didn't pass muster like the stunning material that made onto the album. Hopefully it will rocket up the charts and then that "Tall Blonde Guy From Styx" can be Sitting On Top Of The World!

This is your lucky day.City Slicker will be the first of it's kind. All in one and for free.
SACD,SHM,K22 or DVD Audio rooting for DVD-A surrondo sound mix.
All you have to do is own one of those enormous 58" widescreen definition 3D televisions Bose intersound build in stereo sets at $ 2000.
Check if you got a Type A or a Type C HDMI socket or a SCART connection. It's easy to tell the difference.
( The type C supports full 340 MHz signals via the standard SACD,SHM,K22 or DVD audio protocol).
If not ,you may need to get a male-to-female Mini DVS to DVI adapter.Couple that up to serial port 1,2,3 or 4 (Depending on the the model),
or port 5 if your television stereo set combination is more than 3 years old. Then simply select" menu","OK" (or Cancel"), then click and hold the spanner icon,
press "Settings","Yes" and "Continue",scroll down the menu and follow the on-screen instructions.
City Slicker right there for your family entertainment.

Yo gr8dane,

Our new Sounddesign Hi Def w/3D 58 inch widescreen with Bose surround sound has all of what you stated plus a CD/ DVD/ VHS& Beta hookups. Just got through listening to DDY's Boys will Be Boys plus his version of Fire, JY's Maggie and Tommy's This Is Not A Test. Sounds soooooo AWESOME in Sounddesigns surround 5.0.

So how do I get my hands on this special edition of JY's City Slicker??? Our 20th anniversity is right around the corner and my wife keeps asking me what I want. We have already purchased 12th row for Dream Theatres July 9 Grand Prarie( Dallas) performance. This would be a HUGE added plus.

I will be 'Waiting' for your answer. Our entire family will be 'Sitting On Top Of The World' if we can get this special gift. DDY may be Lost but he is Not Forgotten!!

I don't post on this forum much...but I hope I do not get slayed for this one....
When they discussed Come Sail Away...and they were discussing the power guitar part....and when Eddie talked to JY about his lulling them with the keyboards then boom, and TS said that was JY's parts........JY looked very comfortable taking the credit and just roilling with it....that type of shit irks me......I live this stuff, and have played the hits on stage with many artists who wrote the hits, and guys who were not even in the band when the hit was made, produced and created yet act like they did, and all inbetween.....but that was right there where I believe they should have mentioned DDY....really....DDY wrote the tune...most likely produced a great deal of it.....and those two prance around like they are guys behind it....WE are more comfortable just playing the hits....yes....you make $$$ for doing that....and will not make money selling 15,000 albums.....CD's sorry....rewrite history, act like you wrote it all (WHEN YOU DO NOT EVEN MENTION THAT THEY DID NOT WRITE IT DDY DID THEY IN MY MIND ARE TAKING CREDIT FOR THE CONCEPTION OF THE SONG)......act like you ARE Styx....Jesus Christ....I have't talked to DDY in a while....but I really don't know how he does it.....he stays completely classy and stays out of the fray...good on em.....

Sorry guys....just my opinion...JV

One of the things that got me thinking was when they were talking about Renegade. JY said something like, "it wasn't a rocking song until I laid down some heavy guitar parts". Correct me if I am wrong but, I thought that someone maybe Dennis mentioned that when Tommy demoed this song for him at his home, he encouraged Tommy to rework the song into more of a rocker. Is it possible that this is more reinventing Styx history?

It's a technicality. He didn't say the heavy guitars were his IDEA, just that he laid them down. Which is true. He just conveniently did not mention it was Dennis' suggestion that he do so. Which is more of the same, of course, but then what do we expect, for him to say, "Now wait just a second, that was Dennis!" LOL, I don't think so.

Overall I thought this was a run-of-the-mill appearance. TMS is an interesting show but let's face it, Styx was a stretch to begin with and I agree with the majority, the guys apart from Eddie didn't seem like they gave a shit about them being there. Oh well. Just another day.

No, I wouldn't agree with Toph's take on that. But, I have never taken the time to research it either. The song is an important part of their catalog since it was their highest charting single. You can't argue that. Personally, it's just one song, not my favorite nor do I think it sums up all of what Styx was about. Honestly, I think people make too big of a fuss over one song. It's a good song and some like it and some don't. The reality is there is so much more to choose from then just Babe. What gets me is that some folks think just because you are a fan of Dennis' work they automatically look at Babe as his opus. Which just is not true in my opinion. I don't even think Dennis feels that way.

I would agree that it's more of the same. JY trying to paint a picture that his influences had more to do with the bands success then it really did.
I'm glad that someone else here thinks that having them on this show was a stretch. When you look at the artists they have had on the show and the bands and artists they normally discuss, Styx just doesn't really fit that mold. As I have said before, I have watched this show for quite a while and have never heard them mention Styx as being apart of that Hard Rock\Metal genre.

So you went back 4 years ago to some random post about Styx on that metal show where Andrew said, "bye bye" to me for replying as to why I watched Styx on that metal show with "I enjoy humor." Quite frankly, I think it was and still is, a pretty funny line. And oh, by the way, I didn't get kicked off or else why am I here?

The bigger and more disturbing question is why you spent god knows how long trying to go back 4 years to a thread that, in all honesty, is pretty mild in the grand scheme of things...

That's disturbing. I hope it was worth the hours you put into that search...

Do you really think people here are that stupid? Everybody knows that when Andrew kicks somebody off the forums he says "Bye, bye". I'm sure he warned you several times to stop shitting on the forum and you wouldn't listen so he kicked you off.

You are here because Andrew is a nice guy who will accept an apology and let almost anybody back on. Very, very few people have been permanently kicked off of these forums.

Ha yes.In the grand scheme of things,I spent a lot less time than you,
forcing your 'facts' across as facts, that you are the only one who is buying.
Has it been 10 years now ?

Anyways,I do like to go back and look at old posts.
Reading stuff from Sterling and Styxcollector among other things.
Those guys know what they are talking about.

I also look forward to the day, where I find, you in tears and blubbering away, about how you don't like the people saying
bad things about Dennis, but you really like the people here who like Dennis, but not Tommy and JY.Something along those lines.
Remember that ?

Do you really think people here are that stupid? Everybody knows that when Andrew kicks somebody off the forums he says "Bye, bye". I'm sure he warned you several times to stop shitting on the forum and you wouldn't listen so he kicked you off.

You are here because Andrew is a nice guy who will accept an apology and let almost anybody back on. Very, very few people have been permanently kicked off of these forums.

And you should know since you've been kicked off at least 5 times off the Journey board and threatened on this one.

The bigger and more disturbing question is why you spent god knows how long trying to go back 4 years to a thread that, in all honesty, is pretty mild in the grand scheme of things...

That's disturbing. I hope it was worth the hours you put into that search...

No. But I'm sure you with no life will try and spend a few days finding something to that effect. I pity you.

BZZZZ. You are lying. Both of those statements are not true. And, you don't get kicked off one forum, you get kicked off ALL of them. You are completely clueless. Five times is laughable...I think AR/Arrival Rules may be close to that, and Joe Reardon before he was permanently banned, maybe, I know Deen was kicked off a few times but I doubt he was up to 5. But, what you are saying about me is total fiction.

I do not recall EVER being threatened to being kicked off due to me posts on the Styx forum.

I openly give Andrew permission to speak about this on this forum. If anybody wants to know the truth, ask him to post about it. Since it happened so long ago, he'll probably wonder why anybody fucking cares, tho.

I know, I was dumb enough to click on it thinking someone had some pertinent information related to the topic. I'm gullible as Hell.
