One more post boys and girls, but I have to so here goes....

Is this Groundhog Day? Is Styx just reliving the same day over and over and over again? Really?!? Really you are teaming up with REO Speedwagon for the 53rd time for a summer tour in which you'll play your 12 "hits" (excluding Dennis songs of course) for about an hour and 15 minutes? Really?!? Because we haven't seen this show or this touring partner ad nauseum? You really think that people are going to want to hear both bands play Blue Collar Man and Roll with the Changes for the umpteenth time? Is that showman ship? And of course who can forget little orphan Donny Felder who for some reason you've decided to take under your wings...he sucks to and has gotten so much mileage over the three chord beginning of Hotel California it ain't even funny. Someone please defend this show and tell why ANYONE would want to see it.

Or you could go see a 2 hour show of the real Styx, DDY, where you get EVERY hit song PLUS deep cuts like Queen of Spades, Suite Madame Blue, Castle Walls, and maybe even Crossing the Rubicon....But hey go see your boys with their highly original show. Better your wallet than mine.

Well damn, now I am not sure I should go see them next month. I have tickets. I figured I had never seen them, saw Dennis twice recently, and figured I'd see how it was. Plus it's at a casino - the concert that pays.

No REO or Felder though. I saw Felder recently. Def lip syncing most of it, but I enjoyed it.

The reality is that the "creative days" for both the current Styx and DDY are over. It's nostalgia time. As far as the current Styx, your seeing the same pairing of acts over and over. If it wouldn't sell, the promoters and Styx' management wouldn't be doing them. At their age, neither DDY nor the current Styx are going to do "tours" that are not making money. Both have been basically doing the same old same old for the past decade. When it comes to deep cuts, the current Styx has pulled out deep cuts more often that DDY has. Take your mention of QOS. The current Styx has put that in their set list many times. More then DDY has pulled it out. In another thread, I mentioned how I was getting tired of hearing DDY play the same exact set list. I have gone to see him every time he has come to my area and in every case he has played the same set list EVERY time. That has gotten old for me and I made the decision not to continue to go see him if he didn't change things up. Recently he has put in QOS, CW and mentioned that he is looking to add CTR to the set. The question is, will he consistently keep these deep cuts in the set? The only way I will consider going to see him is if I see that these songs become a regular part of the set list. Otherwise I've had may fill of the same show over and over.

Well for me, Rock of Life and beyond is Rick at his best. His new stuff is exponentially better than the old. But those ladies want to hear that old stuff. Dude puts out one of the best albums of any artist (Songs for the End of the World) and he doesn't play shit from it. Didn't even do a single song off the new album. I did see him once a year or so ago where he did a couple off Songs for the End... but it's rare. I'm going to stop going. It's not worth it anymore.

Maybe they want us to pay $2500+ for the cruise packages to see something other than the same old songs. Not going to do that.

I am a lifelong rick fan.......and while I do agree 100% that his post rock of life work is outstanding and vastly underrated......to me to say that it is exponentially better than his rock of life and earlier work is something that I just dont agree with.....not arguing just sharing an opinion with another rick fan.

his newer stuff is worthy of being played live, and I know he plays the older stuff to pay the bills but I still genuinely love the older stuff.

plus the times I have seen him he has played a few of the newer songs.....I've heard "what's victories secret" a few times, I've heard "free", "i hate myself" and "wide awake".

I have heard those, but not the last two times. He has added a couple new songs not on album. But to skip a whole swath of his career is not good. And let's say it's the right thing, or the thing the crowd wants to hear. I guess that's ok, it's just not for me anymore. I absolutely have no interest in Jessie's Girl or Don't Talk to Strangers, or I've done Everything for You... I mean, when I was 12, yea. But over and over and over. It's one of the reasons I don't go to Journey shows anymore. Enough already. That said, I'm really glad he continues to put out new music.

me too, i love his new music.....but i think like most artists, if he focused on playing most of a new album live and omitted 5-6 crowd favorites, I think his ticket sales would diminish a great deal.
