Why no deluxe edition releases?

A "digitally remastered" version of CTA has popped up on Amazon. Strangely it's only one disc and does not appear to be complete.

Looks like it's done by BGO Records. Amazon UK shows it as a Feb 2 release.

They're the same company that made the Equinox/Crystal Ball single CD.

Wonder how this would compare to the A&M SHM remastered release?

It would be tough to match. The SHM mini lp release of Caught in the Act is awesome. Probably the best of all the SHM Styx releases. Sounds excellent. A vast improvement of the original CD release.

I received my copy of the remastered BGO Caught in the Act CD and I have to say, they did a great job with this remaster. Sounds great, everything is clear, and much better than the original.

Had a history of the band in the liner notes, but it looked like something that someone had typed up in a blog. Mentioned other bands and their histories way too much. But i'll take what I can get when it comes to this release. Still wish they could've done it some justice and threw in Heavy Metal Poisoning, Cold War, Renegade, and Haven't we Been Here Before.

I know I've read interviews where Dennis said it before, but here's the words straight form the horses mouth.

There pretty much are no Styx out-takes or demos... they recorded and kept finished products and that seems to be it.

We would come into the studio and kick ideas back and forth until we had something to record. In all that time we only had one song rejected.

As far as Styx specifically recording and not having released concerts, I'm not sure there are any... however;

I believe Dennis has also stated that at least one of their 1997 shows was recorded and he was certain a full show that could be put to video exists.

Styx' manager, Derek Sutton, did not allow the band to be filmed live during their heyday. He didn't allow much press at all, as he was tired of the band being eviscerated by the media.

However, footage does exist from in-house cameras. There are two concerts from the Winterland Ballroom in San Fransisco, from April 1976 (Equinox tour) and January, 1978 (Grand Illusion tour). The footage from 1981 is from the Capital Center in-house camera.

In the mid-2000's The Who started recording and releasing every concert they did on audio and video which I think is really neat, especially with in-house cameras being of better quality by then.

would it be worth paying the extra money for live songs? If it had something recorded on that tour for the album, I think so. Equinox could have songs recorded during that tour would be great. Same for the other ones too.
