The heart and soul of Styx gives an incredible interview. There are so many of these interview videos from all over the globe, all funny, intelligent and down to earth, this New York’s flagship classic rock station.

Such selfishness. EVERYTHING related to Styx is "I" did this. Not once in the written bit of this article does he say "we" did this. Arrogant, selfish, and the very reason he is not currently in the band.

That interview was sooooooooo great. 3/4 of it was DDY and the interviewer talking about the Beatles and how they changed so many other musicians lives. I never thought about the odds of Lennon & McCartney hooking up, 3 mics never before at the front of the stage, etc... What a great selfless interview.

Monk honestly no need to spout off on your DDY opinion. We all know it. You are 100% entitled to have it, but you are so far off on this one. There was not one self serving thing Dennis said in this 30 minute interview. He’s grateful for the life his fans have allowed him to live and he seems almost mystified by the adulation he receives.

Dennis stated HE was just up on stage trying to kick Queen & Foreigners ass. What an awesome statement. As an ex athlete I appreciate that so much. I take that as meaning that Dennis was up on stage competing his ass off for fan approval, and he’s busting his ass to WIN it. In musical performing terms I believe winning means selling more records, and concert tickets than the next band. How is any of that self serving?? Plus that was like 30-45 seconds of the entire 29 minute interview. Add to it that was Dennis perspective of what he was trying to accomplish in Styx. How in the hell is he suppose to state what Tommy & JY were really trying to accomplish in Styx. It might of been all about the money for them or maybe Styx was just a springboard for a solo career etc.... Point being if Dennis would of said yea every night Me, Tommy and JY were up on stage just trying to kick Queen & Foreigners ass you would of ripped his ass twice as hard for putting words in their mouth.

Great interview one of the best I’ve ever heard !!

I commented about the written article. After reading it, I had no interest in hearing/seeing the rest.

Dennis stated HE was just up on stage trying to kick Queen & Foreigners ass.

No. He said *I*. He makes it all about himself.

What an awesome statement.

No, it's not. When you go about saying "I" this and that, you are being exclusive and superior to everybody. For example: I can say whatever I want. If I want to say Dennis is an asshole, I can.

As an ex athlete I appreciate that so much. I take that as meaning that Dennis was up on stage competing his ass off for fan approval, and he’s busting his ass to WIN it.

Yep, and the other guys were just there as sidemen.

In musical performing terms I believe winning means selling more records, and concert tickets than the next band. How is any of that self serving??

If he were not selfish he would say something like, "When WE were on stage and WE were kicking ass, I always imagined WE were competing against Queen and Foreigner." It's all about one person, him.

Plus that was like 30-45 seconds of the entire 29 minute interview.

Don't care...I have heard/read enough of selfish commentary like that and those written bits totally turned me off from wanting to know about the rest of it.

Add to it that was Dennis perspective of what he was trying to accomplish in Styx.

No. It was what Dennis wanted to accomplish. He didn't mention Styx. *I*, remember.

How in the hell is he suppose to state what Tommy & JY were really trying to accomplish in Styx.

He didn't have to. See above.

It might of been all about the money for them or maybe Styx was just a springboard for a solo career etc....

Or, maybe they were secretly planing on kicking him out of the band.

Point being if Dennis would of said yea every night Me, Tommy and JY were up on stage just trying to kick Queen & Foreigners ass you would of ripped his ass twice as hard for putting words in their mouth.

LOL. No, I wouldn't. I would have said nothing.

Again Monk, You are 100% within your rights to have ANY opinion you want about Dennis. BUT you couldn’t be MORE wrong about this interview. This interview for the most part isn’t about Styx or DENNIS. It’s about the Beatles and their influence on sooo many named musicians. It’s about how we the fans love such a wide variety of voices and different types of rock music. Look at the print title it reads STYX Was Always Trying to Outdo Queen & Foreigner.

I have no clue about the song Great White Hope and Dennis does NOT ever bring up that song in the interview, but what I do know about that song is JY sung it, and now I’m GUESSING Dennis must of wrote it, or they wrote it together and they felt JYs powerful voice needed to send that opening message. Anyway when Dennis answers the interviewers question he was asked a direct question about HIS perspective when the band was coming up. That’s why he stated ‘I was in the ring’. The question would be like an interviewer asking Derek Jeter what pitch did you hit for that game winning home run? Jeter could in NO WAY answer ‘ the Yankees hit a home run’. It wouldn’t make sense. The question was asked about him.

You are soooo far off on this interview. It’s one of the best music interviews I’ve ever heard. There’s a segment in there where Dennis doesn’t talk for like 4-6 minutes the interviewer talks about his love of different influences etc. It fits perfect where they are going with the interview. Dennis doesn’t state a negative word in the interview other than saying he loves The Rolling Stones music and that it’s brilliant but he never could get into Mick Jaggers voice. That’s not negative at all IMO. I’ve never bought a Stones album in my life cause I too don’t like Jaggers voice but I’ve seen them twice in concert cause I’ve loved so many of their songs.

It’s a GREAT selfless interview
