Luke on new podcast

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Wed Nov 18, 2020 1:10 am

A few highlights -

Luke clarifies that him and Paich paid to get 25% of the name.

Luke says there will never be another TOTO album. When pressed for a reason, he said that a SL solo album takes 8 days and a TOTO album takes 8 months.

Luke acknowledges Bobby's dementia and says they may dedicate a song to him in concert.

Yeah...I feel for the guys....band break ups are shit. Its just unfortunate.

Here's another interview where Luke talks a little bit more of the same pertaining to the band :

So Paich has medications that he has to take at set times everyday or he will get new seizures. Sad. I've worked with children with very similar concerns and it is so tough.

A few other interesting tidbits :

1. Luke wanted to do some tracks off their new material for the live show but the record company advised to wait for the record to come out first.
2. The show is mainly going to be Toto material. And Luke mentions this show is a 'one time' thing. Whether he means future shows will be live in the cities and no more in this worldwide format, or a mix of Toto and solo material, etc....I am not sure.
3. Luke released Run To Me early mainly as a birthday present to Ringo, because they couldn't throw him a party due to the lockdown.
4. Seems that the issues are with Jeff and Mike's widows. Not just Jeff. Seems like due to some management fuck up from decades ago, which saw the band not having equal share to all band members, which probably left out Steve Porcaro and why SP is now on the shits with Luke.
5. Luke and Paich owe lawyers....haha.

I am very much hoping the future live shows will see them add SL/JW solo material to their repertoire. Both of them have some truly exceptional music in their solo catalogues and JW's solo material, in particular, has certainly not received the live attention it deserves. Indeed, apart from the odd songs performed with Jay Graydon in 1996 (Heroes, Dirty Little War) and with Peter Friestedt in 2009-13 (This Fall, I Am Alive, I Didn't Do It) I don't think any of JW's material has ever been played live. How cool wouldn't it be to see the new Toto play songs like I'm Giving Up on You, If I Seem to Wander, Takin' It, What Is She Hiding or Don't Pull the Plug?

Indeed.

I would also love to see Luke do tracks like Swear Your Love, Drive A Crooked Road, Extinction Blues and Borrowed Time live.

I really was hoping to hear some solo cuts this weekend but...oh well.....gotta be thankful for some live Toto again. I just hope they do a deep cut or one they've never done before or in a long time.

Oh, and another interesting, if not sad, point was made by Luke in one of his recent interviews as well.

There will be no more Toto music appearing anywhere in movies, etc....because everytime that happens the 2 widows also get money which Luke isn't interested in.

Man....

Sounds like releasing any new music as TOTO would open a legal hornet's nest. But what about doing an album as "Dogs of Oz"?
Just sayin....
