DJ MIKE - Kilroy 1983

Dear DJ Mike
I have listened to this live recording of the Kilroy show and two others and the thing that jumps out at me is the crowd reactions.
They cheer and laugh and scream and yes boo exactly in all the right places. They are obviously engaged and understanding and really enjoying this incredible concert.

Yogi and others whom I have spoken to who attended the Cotton Bowl concert have conclusively refuted the idea that the Styx concert was booed. After listening to these shows it struck me that people who attended a very hot 10 hour outdoor festival who had no interest in Styx might not have been paying attention to the show at all just hanging out and getting high or milling about and heard the audience boo at the spots intended to illicit booing. Dr.R being a provocateur or when the band is dragged off stage by the MMM.

Yogi has also mentioned the no beer announcement also being a factor.
On none of these recordings do you hear an audience react other than what was expected. They sit through the movie and Roboto and cheer wildly at all the right places. There were plenty of opportunities to boo the movie or at the wrong time but it doesn’t happen.

Favorites of mine are Heavy Metal Poisoning.
JY, John and Chuck channeling Mel Brooks‘s Springtime for Hitler to poke fun at the MMM and Righteous. JY always looked like he was having a ball.
And Dennis and Tommy singing Haven’t We Been Here Before. Then Kilroy (Dennis) this time actually does pass the baton (guitar) to Chance (Tommy). It still gives me the chills.

Yeah, I agree I noticed that as well. Not sure why this is directed at me as I have no issues with the Kilroy tour -- wish I could have seen it! It never came to my area when I was 12 years old. I think the closest they came to me was Chattanooga. I do know people who did see the tour and all of them said it was awesome, no one complained about the movie at all.

DJ
This was not directed at you it was just a response to your posting of the LA Forum audio.
My comments were meant to expose the lies told by JY, Tommy, Chuck and Cahill on BTM about this magnificent concert. Their goal some 23 years later was to vilify Dennis to distract us from their goal of replacing a sick colleague so they could take control of the band for money. I have no quarrel with those who do not like the music on Kilroy but the concert was absolutely amazing.

The music.
Dennis has 3 songs on Kilroy and a reprise, Tommy has 3 and JY has 2. Just Get Through The Night was the first song written for Kilroy before there was a concept. As Dennis has said the music written was the music recorded. There were no magical rock songs or prog songs hiding in Tommy’s or JY’s closet that were kept off. Tommy has 2 ballads and Dennis 1.
Both of Tommy’s ballads are amazing.

Why should anyone care all these years later about the Kilroy album and tour and who said what and who's lying, blah blah blah. Dennis is doing his thing and Styx is doing their thing. It's long past time to let these things go. To me, I don't give a shit anymore.

I agree with you on this to a point. Shit Styx has been without DDY for 22 years. They just released a 2nd TOTALLY FANTASTIC album in the last 4 years. It’s GREAT! I also believe that Tommy, JY, Chuck & the rest of the band have the right to play with whomever they want to.

On the other hand they totally lied about the reason Dennis was ousted back in 99. Why didn’t they just kick him out and say it’s because Dennis couldn’t tour, the tours set & we need the cash? Simple truth! Once Dennis was ready to jump back into Styx they then could of said no we like our néw band as is. They lied about why making him look like shit & in the process stole something Dennis felt he devoted a majority of his life to. That’s a tough pill to swallow. The tactics they used were very dirty.

True story (because I have lived it).

My wife and I are 50 years old. My wife married her first husband when she was 19. She quickly realized she made a mistake and within 6 months went back home to her parents. Husband wants to reconcile and make it work. She tries, they move away. Have a child. Before she hits 21 she leaves for home again with a new baby. Divorce happens and I enter the picture. Ex husband still wanted to reconcile. Called all the time. Called her parents all the time. Called her brother all the time. Started calling ME at work trying to be cool and buddy buddy. She and I married and moved 100 miles away. He continued to call. Drove the 100 miles over on non visitation times just to "talk". This goes on for 2-3 years then we move over 600 miles away to another state. He still called us, her parents and brother. If not for having a son with my wife we would have blocked his number. This goes on for another 14 years or so until the child reaches 16. Child wanted nothing to do with his dad, he calls me dad. To keep from getting into an even longer story it has been over THIRTY YEARS and he still has hope they might get back together. My step son wants nothing to do with him and hasn't spoken to him in about 6-7 years. Ex husband even moved within 30 miles of us (and went back to his home state because of no work). At this point his number is blocked and he can't call us. Did he say and do bad things? YES. Did my wife and I say and do bad things? YES. We were all at fault. But shouldn't he move on? Yes he should, instead of living in the past hoping for reconciliation.

Change the story around a little bit and what story do you have?

Did I want Dennis to return to Styx? of course, but he didn't and I moved on.

At this point I am too old to worry about who says or does what. I just don't care anymore (just as I don't care what my wife's ex husband says or does anymore).

To me it is ALL about the music. We should celebrate that we have a new album from Dennis and a new EP and LP from Styx. Enjoy the music while it lasts because some day it will all come to an end.

I never understood all the bickering over the years on this forum. Just the same way I never understood the bickering about Diamond Dave and Sammy. I was just glad to get new music from VH and Dave. Gilmour and Waters? Just glad to get new music from both.

Just be happy and your life will be better.

I am not a member of a famous 12 step program but I know people who are. One of their questions is "How important is it?". Makes you think about the REAL important things in life.... Which for me is safety for my son and daughters, quality life for my family, a good job, great healthcare and insulin for my young diabetic child. THOSE are the real important issues in life. What Styx does or says? What Dennis does or says? Not really important. I'm just content with getting new music and would love to have 2 concerts to attend (a DDY show and a Styx show) before they all slow down.

You are correct when you say it matters not to you anymore. And yes it is tiresome.
However it seems to me that Dennis has been the one vilified by the lies and it’s his reputation that has been publicly sullied even to this day 22 years later. All you need to do is read some people on this site and others who continually tell the same lies over and again and wrongly accuse Dennis of being things he never was and things he never did. He was the leader of Styx. Not a dictator or tyrant.

DJ your divorce is essentially a private affair and I’m truly saddened to hear your story. It sounds scary. Imagine if it were made public and the first husband had the power to enlist his friends in a public social media campaign to spread lies about you and destroy your reputation.
And it never stops.

If Dennis had simply been replaced as Yogi suggests for money and control then so much about what is debated here ad nauseam would be unnecessary. No arguments about styles of music or who are favorites are. Just a business decision. More money for Tommy and James. Everyone can relate to that.
