WHATS REALLY GOING ON??????

Postby yogi » Tue Jan 20, 2004 5:57 am

So whats really going on out there Styx or even Type1 fans?? Very little from Kramer ie.. Froy. How can that be Froy? Your musical reason for living is out touring extensively. He has released 4 new songs in the past year. My god life should be gooood if your in the Type 1 Deyoung camp. Then again his four new songs pretty much how do you say.......... suck. SUCK!! So be it he does have those GREAT pipes. His voice cant be denied!! As for Suite Man Hands Blue, I think it is GREAT she is going to trade in the Depends for a Speedo and relive her youth. Man Hands let me tell you Rush in concert is AWESOME!!! Night Ranger is AWESOME!!!! If you get a chance to see April Wine or Loverboy go! Myles and Mike still can deliver. Finally, if you get a chance to see Rik Emmitt go! Rik is teaming with Glen Burtnik for at least one show this summer. That will be a GREAT event!! As for all the rest of you... whats uppppp?? Hold on, I hear Dawn Marie singing Paradise in the background my wife must be home. Peace!!

29 VIEWS=ZERO responses. What is REALLY going on here??? Froy is bored.... Hell,he should be running naked through Shoozes trailer park in delirium!! Froy, Dennis has put out 4 new singles in the past year. Think about it that is equivalent to the number of songs he sang lead on for The Grand Illusion. He's touring!!!! He's like Kramer... He's out there man!!! And He's lovin it!!! Besides what I have just typed Lets look at at........
Suite Man Hands! She is a groupie again......... Life is goood in the Deyoung camp. Wake up Type 1's it's time to Kool and The Gang!!!!!!

Yogi Yogi.....poor misguided Yogi. You say Dennis new music Sucks, and while you are 100 percent entitled to having this opinion, I can't help but think to myself that you are holding on entirely too hard to the past. Could it be you and Froy have more in common than you care to admit ?

If I understand where you are coming from, there is nothing Dennis could release that would meet your approval short of the next Born for Adventure or Queen of Spades ( 2 of my all-time favorite Dennis songs by the way.......) Yog's.....face it , it's not ever going to happen, and here's why.

#1 Dennis is not in Styx anymore.....Do you think he completely wrote
the guitar parts, and arrangements himself ? Sure, he was the writer of all of those great songs we all love, but they never would have sounded the same without the contribution of each member of he band.

#2 Dennis is pushing 57 Years old, and is coming from a different place
than he was at 32....( can you believe Grand Illusion is over 25 years old ???? ) Comparing what hew writres today to the music he mnmade 25 years ago is kind of like saying John Lennon's Imagine Sucked because I want to Hold Your Hand is your all time favorirte song. Did Lennon ever rock out the way he did in the 60's after they were over ? no.....was his music 1970-80 worth a listen ? to me, damn right it was !

I enjoy the new work for what it is......I think the 2 God Songs and Goodnight My Love have good Lyrics, Strong Melodies, and of course, one of the finest voices of the past 50 years.......are they "crank up the stereo" until the bass goes to the bone type rockers ? of course not !

To prove I have some objectivity past being a blind Dennis loyalist, I offer 2 pieces of evidence......#1 I've never heard the song "A love Foretold" and never will unless someone burns a copy of it for me, ore it is released separate from Suzannes book. and #2 The Hunchback music that I have heard just doesn't do anything for me.

So, I think you should listen to the new music with a little perspective if you havent done so already.

Classic,
I agree with most of what you said. I also believe part of the reason Dennis is no longer in Styx is that he wont even try for another Born for Adventure, Borrowed Time,Queen Of Spades, Come Sail Away, etc. He is totally satisfied with the slow down or showtune preacher type of song he has now been writing and singing for the past decade. Tommy, JY and Chuck( all the remaining members of the band) knew this and basicially said this direction doesnt work for us, plus hes pretty much a prick that wont tour so he's out. I still will always believe a man of his MASSIVE talent could produce the type of songs the majority of his fans desire if he really wanted to. Look or should I say listen to what Warren Zevon did on his death bed. My God its brilliant! Dennis's age means absolutely nothing to me. If he wanted to write and sing great new rock songs he could do it. Tommy proves that over and over again, on all of his releases. Dennis has more God given talent than Tommy he just doesnt want to do the rock thing anymore. So be it, but since Dennis doesnt want to rock, and the rest of the band does why was it wrong to give him the size 12 in the ass???

When was the last time this type of music was played on the radio ?
Answer 25 years ago.
Sure they were great songs but nobody has the right to kick someone out of the band because they do not write music like they did 25 years ago.
Styx was popular because of the 3 different styles that came from the 3 guys. Styx will never be popular again without the 3rd piece of the puzzle.
Even with that piece there are just too many pissed off fans .

He is totally satisfied with the slow down or showtune preacher type of song he has now been writing and singing for the past decade.

And his fans love it.

Tommy, JY and Chuck( all the remaining members of the band) knew this and basicially said this direction doesnt work for us,

Who they hell are they to say that ?
Fields of the Brave works for them better than a Dennis ballad ?
No freakin way.

plus hes pretty much a prick that wont tour so he's out.

And your pretty much a hyocrite .

Look or should I say listen to what Warren Zevon did on his death bed. My God its brilliant!

Not from what I heard.

Two Songs?

Postby Nollusion » Wed Jan 21, 2004 10:57 pm

Yogi - you're a troll. Why don't you please just go away. (I know.... wishful thinking).

IMHO - DDY has 3 new songs on his live CD all of which are pretty good. Instant classics? Perhaps not but they're pretty good songs. By contrast, the only songs on Cyclorama that I can stomach are "These Are The Times" and "Waiting For Our Time To Come"...... And Cyclorama was a whole album full of "new" songs. I think that before you start a flame about how much one person's music sucks over another I think you should re-evaluate your mission.

And to his credit, Dennis isn't authorizing new live album and previous hit compilations every other month just to line his pocket and re-releasing previously released live albums trying to con fans into spending more money to support a band that sold out it's meal ticket. I'm frankly glad that Dennis isn't a part of that.

The real point is that these guys apart have never and will never be what they were together. To expect so would be insanity. Even together they're work would be so far removed from where they were in their 30s that I think that we, as fans, expect too much. We should spend our time enjoying these guys while we still have them because they're not getting any younger. We've already lost the amazing talents of Freddie Mercury, Warren Zevon, Kurt Kobain (arguable I know), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, and the list just goes on and on and on..... we should be glad we still have these guys and not complaining so much. If you don't like what they're doing, then don't buy it. That's the track I've chosen.

PS,

Yogi, I only agree with you to a point....Dennis has the proven ability to write songs with a harder edge, as he's done in the past.
BUT I believe that for a piece of Music to be truly great, whatever the style, the songwriters hear has to be 100 percent into it.

I don't pretend to know more about Dennis than anyone else here ( frankly, I've never even met him, so this is nothing more than speculation ) But there's a word for people at age 57
who aren't as driven to spend 200 days a year on the road and
write music meant to be played at a minimum of 100 decibels.....
the word is NORMAL. Dennis has children and his children have children ( I believe ) and his family has ALWAYS come first. He probably has all the money he'll ever need, and can satisfy his desires to play and make new music at a pace HE is comfortable with.

Also, I don't know if you Yogi, or anyone else at this site has ever
done vocals in a Rock and Roll band.......I have ( I'm not making any claims that I was any good........) and I can tell you, it is wearing on the vocal cords, regardless of how good ones breathing technique is. I'm 40, and if I were ever to peform in public again, and If I had to write the songs I was performing, I can assure you I'd write them in a fashion that would take it a little easier on the pipes than I would have in my teens and 20's....

I think all of these factors go into who Dennis is today, and the music he writes.....it IS good music...it ISN'T the same as what was going on in 1976-80......and it never will be again. Yo have a choice to either enjoy it or not put it in the CD Player, and I'm OK with either choice.
