It's AOTW again. For me, it's a day early, because I won't be around Wednesday. Funny how that works, seems like something's always going on.

My AOTW goes to Dare "Out of the Silence". Their debut is excellent keyboard-driven AOR with kickass vocal layers and harmomies. Big time reminds me of Asia.

Rammstein - Live Aus Berlin is my AOTW.

It took me a long time to figure out what to think of this band. It's (loud) marching music, sang in German and with songtitles like Bestrafe Mich (Punish Me)
But after having listened to some of their songs I concluded that nobody could write these lyrics and combine them with this particular style of music and be still be serious about it. And at the same time, their lyrics are so ingenious and full of subtleties and ambiguities it's really fun to listen to. And heavily distorted guitars playing a march is quite catchy!

My favourite DT album. Absolutely awesome: more melodies, less wanking.

I'm sure it has something to do with Kevin Moore.

I know it early in the week, but my A.O.T. W. is the debut cd by Brides of Destruction. I was sent a copy by e mail buddy in Japan.
The cd hasn't left my cd player since.
Snotty, punky, hard rock are some words that can describe this masterpiece.

This week for me a second hand CD, at the bargain price of £3.
Tygers of Pan Tang - Crazy nights. (With extra tracks).
They may have been one of the front runners of the NWOBHM but never reaped the rewards like Maiden/Leppard.

Hopefully with the time zones, by the time Tali reads this, it will be Weds, otherwise we're going to get a *slap*

Tuesdays will be my AOTW day from now on. I'm never home wednesdays, nor most of the other days at that matter with exception of weekends.

My AOTW goes to a recent purchase: The Storm "Eye of the Storm"

An excellent AOR album which also features ex-Journey keyboardist Gregg Rolie, and is fronted by a killer vocalist named Kevin Chalfant. If they had come out in the 80's instead of the 90's, I bet they would've seen huge success.

My album of the week is......'Somewhere in time' - Iron Maiden.

Unbelievable that they could be the same band that served up 'Dirge of Death'.....

You'd love that wouldn't you Laura :D

My AOW is O.S.I - Office of Strategic Influence.

This still gets regular plays....some cool moods/atmospheres are set on this album and the band are all top notch.....Moore,Portnoy,Mallone and Matheos......and there is no overplaying or wank in sight.

And Kenny's AOW is a fucking ripper.....one of the best albums of all time.

My AOTW is Nightwish - Century Child.
I'm not into operalike vocals, but somehow they seem to fit this band. I wouldn't mind though if their bassplayer would sing some more songs on the next album.

IMO, I hope that Nightwish sticks to a Tarja-only affair when the new album comes out. The reasons why I don't listen to Lucuna Coil or Tristania is because the male singer ruins the performance of the female singer. I would hate to see Nightwish make the same mistake.

No, I like the contrast between their voices, it also adds a little diversity to the album by using two leadsingers with such different voices. Female vocals -however beautiful- tend to bore me after a while, so Century Child is a great album for me. And it's not like Marco is grunting or anything.
But I could cope with only Tarja singing if they fill the next album completely with songs like Beauty Of The Beast.

Oops, except for that one song. I knew there was a reason why I skipped this one when I recorded it on tape.

Good one Trekman. If you like 'The Fourth Legacy' give 'Karma' or 'Epica' a try.

For the last couple of weeks I've been spinning Sisters of Mercy. Both 'Floodland' and 'Vision Thing".

My AOW is Unicorn-Emotional Wasteland.

Unicorn is one of Dan Swano's many projects. This guy is amazing. Unicorn is fairly pop/metal and utilises Dan's 'clean' singing voice. Some of his other bands include Edge of Sanity (the latest album Crimson II is a death/prog masterpiece with Dan playing everything but the guitar solo's) and Nightingale which is a sort of progressive-gothic band......he also did all the low vocals on the Star One-Space Metal album.....one of my all time faves.

AOTW time. Nightwish "Wishmaster" is my pick for this week.

It's all your fault Serendipity! As soon as you mentioned Nightwish, I had the sudden urge to listen to their cds again.

Of course, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My AOW is Deep Purple - Bananas......this is the best thing Purple have done for ages!! Certainly the best thing they have done with Steve Morse in the band, and the inclusion of Don Airey seems to have re-invigorated this band.
They seem to have finally found a post Blackmore sound that kinda sits well with the legacy of the band.......

Not to mention Gillan seems to have remembered how to sing again!!

Very pleasantly surprised by this album. Good stuff.

Still have to check this one out. It wasn't until a few months ago I started listening to Deep Purple with Steve Morse. Hearing Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming from the Purpendicular album made me decide to give post Blackmore Purple another chance.

My AOTW is Van Zant - Brother To Brother. I love the bluesy sound of the album and the voice of Johnny van Zant. Song highlights for me are Rage, I'm A Want You Kinda Man, Right Side Up and Black Bottom Road.

Jonny, I'm glad to have been of service to you!

For me its Jimmy Barnes 'Double Jeopardy'. It includes a rocking version of 'All the young dudes'. A great double album.

I really liked Perpendicular........Abandon had 2 or 3 stand out tracks and Bananas is fairly strong throughout....Morse rules. Everything Purple did between Perfect Strangers until Morse joined was a disgrace.

Does the in-between period even count as Deep Purple? I always considered it to be Richie Blackmore's Rainbow under a different name. When I think of it as Rainbow and not Deep Purple, the music doesn't sound so disgraceful.

Jonny...i'm talking about crap albums such as House of Blue Light or Come Hell or High Water...MkII line up....shit records and the reason it seems is that Richie Blackmore ran out of riffs in the early 80's....that simple.....Morse has so much more up his sleeve.
