Postby froy » Tue May 11, 2004 9:02 am

To see JY just keep doing the same blasting of Dennis Over and Over again just shows how classless the guy is .

You want to know what band Im over it's Styx .

Now JY say's this lineup is the best ever .
Before wiith Burtnick that was the best ever .

It's really sad when the Chicago band Styx comes back to town to play The Vic theater , That my friend say's it all .
The radio stations are giving away 4 packs of tickets all weekend
That's hundreds of tickets.

Jy brags about how Dennis's influence is gone as they play saloons and 1000 seat old dumpy theaters . This guy has no clue and without Styx has no job.

Funny how Shaw never does interviews it's always JY who shoots his mouth off .

He needs a slap in the mouth

Froy, If your over STYX why do you keep coming back here?

By the way froy, YOUR WRONG AGAIN. They gave away about 60 tickets not hundreds! They do that to get people to listen to the radio station. They were giving away Van Halen tickets everyday for two weeks. I guess they can't sell tickets either.

Chicagostyx,

YOU are way wrong. Van Halen without a new album, without ANY marketing without so much as a blip on the radar in almost TEN YEARS is selling out 20,000 seat arenas with NO opening act. To compare them to Styx mach syx is laughable.

Styx now is a shell of what they once were and are steadily declining. Cyclorama was a good outing and practically the only bright spot in FIVE years. To think that Styx is comparable to even a Journey without Steve Perry is a joke, hence the 2003 tour which Styx didn't even headline. DipStyx now is along the lines of maybe Cinderella.

What that wasn't fair...I really shouldn't have gone there...after all the Poison summer tours do in fact sell out!

You know why Styx is selling less tickets you dumb asses? It is because they play so often. Talk about JY shooting off his mouth Froy? YOU don't realize it but it is YOU that sounds like the bitter one. This guy is making a great living with a band that he has spent over 30 years with!!! He can play where he wants when he wants and I guarantee he doesn't give a rats ass what you think. Why don't you reach under your bed, dust off your old strat or tele or drums (or whatever dream gave up on you) and start your own band. You then will have something to be critical of. Since you know so much you will be raking it in before we can all blink. I want to reserve a copy of your first cd right now. Where do I send the check?

Hey Gary S, when the name calling starts is when Andrew starts shutting these forums down.
And...JY IS NOT making a GREAT living off this. He can't play where/when he wants. He HAS to play to live.
The reason again why people have a right to defend Dennis on a Styx board is because he IS a BIG part of the 'STYX' that drew many in.
It's just like Dennis said. He will always get asked about Styx, no matter what.
Dennis will always be a part of Styx. To many, he IS Styx. Now before you slam me, I AM NOT saying that. I'm just saying why many come to a Styx board and defend Dennis. To many, it's not Styx anymore and Dennis is Styx. So it makes sense.

I stand by everything I say. Also you can look and see that I defend Dennis and JY equally. The truth is JY has not STOPPED playing since Dennis left the band. JY has his non-stop rock band and Dennis has his theater. I get to see Styx practically any time that I want. Crowd not big enough for you guys? Too bad. Venues aren't cool enough for you guys? Too bad. And last but not least if you read Froy's post and didn't think "dumb ass" then you should join his band The Dumb Asses. That is not name calling, that is a reality check.

piecesofeight,
I must correct you on one thing. Although JY does make a great living playing, he does not need to "play to live" as you misguidedly wrote. If he never played another gig, he would be just fine. That's it. :?

Welcome Back Froy!!!! All I know is Styx has not played San Antonio in over two years, and they have sold close to or over 10,000 tickets for this Sundays concert. They are the headline act on the triple bill.

One last thing Dennis got a nice write up yesterday in The San Antonio Express News Life Section. The article came out of L.A. and said how he has moved on without Styx, and how thrilled he is to be playing live again.
He said, its the GREATEST feeling being front and center playing his hit songs some being over thirty years old seeing how the audience still responds to them and having an orchestra behind him is just awesome.

For this article to be in the San Antonio paper now, may mean Dennis is planning on coming here. The orchestra in San Antonio was about to fold up until about two weeks ago. Some rich guy completely bailed them out and they are 100% back in business. Here's hoping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And, to imply that a band can't sell tickets because radio is giving them away is also laughable...Since every band imaginable for decades has done so...including bands that sell 20,000 seats without an opening act.

No it's not...Styx was every bit of the band Journey was during the Main Event tour. They should have been able to close once in a while. They earned it.

DipStyx now is along the lines of maybe Cinderella.

The only 'dipstyx' are the people who think up such silly names.

Besides, there was a rumor that Journey was to tour with Firehouse...so how could you say Journey is any better off. Grow up, please.

Of course he realizes it. He's been bitter with Styx for 'taking my favorite band away from me" from the moment they canned Dennis. He can't stand the fact that all of his predictions of "this is the last year for Styx..." and "they'll get Dennis back after this tour..." have never come close to coming true.

Yawn......

The only 'dipstyx' are the people who think up such silly names

I don't consider myself a "dipstyx" by calling the current Styx "Carrot Styx". I don't consider the current "Styx" Styx, that was gone when Dennis was kicked out of the band. I was just trying to be nice since "their" new cd had a big carrot on it. I thought of worse names, but just stayed with my cute little "Carrot Styx" name. I don't think I hurt the bands feelings by saying that :)

What does Journey have to do with Styx? They aren't touring together this time. The Main Event was so last year.

Yogi, I hope Dennis comes to San Antonio soon for you. I think you'd really enjoy his concert, seriously.

The truth is JY has not STOPPED playing since Dennis left the band. JY has his non-stop rock band and Dennis has his theater. I get to see Styx practically any time that I want. Crowd not big enough for you guys? Too bad. Venues aren't cool enough for you guys? Too bad.

Gary, I agree, I could see the current line-up of Styx any time I want to too. They're here at least 6 times a year, with the same songs, over and over and over. JY did add one of his new ones for Harley Fest for the first time and I read that a few more "snippets" were added to the Cyclomedley. As for the crowds, I prefer smaller venues. I can't stand going to Arenas or Stadiums anymore. I HATE the bathroom lines-LOL As for the venues, I don't mind the theaters, I enjoy the shows at a theater. I saw RTP tour with Classic Styx and that was a theater. I actually don't mind seeing a band at a fair, I always get to the front to take pictures. I do mind seeing a band in a cornfield - LOL How embarrassing!!

Again and again and again, this is my opinion, I think JY just needs to move on and promote this latest line-up of Carrot Styx and leave the past fightings alone.

This is a thought that was going through my head today, as I have a friend who is going through something really bad.
This is sort of going off base, and doesn't really fit into this thread, but it has to do with bashing. Anyway, whatever. Going to post it here.
I was thinking about all the crap Dennis has taken over all the years, and stilll takes, for being such a family man and not your typical rock star. Especially when it comes to his wife always being with him, helping him, being a muse, guide, friend, etc... Whatever way you want to look at her ALWAYS being a part of his life, music and whatever he is doing. Then too his family overall and what they mean to him.
So, I was just thinking about how it's all of the above that kept him from going down the wrong path. Not falling into any of the trappings. Staying pretty much a regular 'Joe'. Yet the things, especially his wife, that kept him from falling into the rock star trappings are the same things that he keeps getting bashed for and the jokes just keep coming. Irony if you ask me. I say kudos to him for keeping it together and having what so many want. 8)

Great post PO8.
We have a giant movie theater here in New Orleans with a game room, food ct. etc. The pizza place in the food court is called Pizzas of Eight (a parrott dressed as a pirate...you get the picture).... Makes me think of that song every time I am there stuffing my pie hole.

I don't consider myself a "dipstyx" by calling the current Styx "Carrot Styx".

Then what do you consider somebody who makes up silly names to describe something so they do not have to deal with reality?

I don't consider the current "Styx" Styx

And, that is irrelevant. They are Styx. It doesn't matter what you, me, or anybody else thinks. In fact, Dennis signed the papers to allow them to use the name...so even he agreed to it.

that was gone when Dennis was kicked out of the band.

But, of course when Tommy was replaced, they could continue on...Even though it was Tommy who kept bugging Dennis for a reunion in the first place.

I was just trying to be nice since "their" new cd had a big carrot on it.

No, 'their' CD didn't have a carrot on it. STYX CD had a carrot on it.

What does Journey have to do with Styx? They aren't touring together this time. The Main Event was so last year.

Well, since Dennis stole Elmo from the cover of Frontiers and turned him into Mr. Roboto, I think Journey has everything to do with Styx.

But, my point was that Journey shouldn't be elevated any higher then Styx since Journey is ALSO considering touring with has-been glam bands like Firehouse.

In 95 with Dennis they did 12 thousand a night but now that influence is gone so the 11 thousand fans go with that's all.

If they have to give away tickets in there home town there's a problem

Sorry, but "Kilroy Was Here" was released in February 1983 and your Journey "Frontiers" was released April 1983. So I don't think Dennis stole "Elmo". Nice Try

Monker, since you seem to know everything about Journey, do you know the first time (year) that Journey and Styx performed together at the same festival? If anyone else knows, please join in :D

Suite, the Seperate Ways video was shot on a wharf in New Orleans. That is where I live. If any of you are in town you should give me a holler and I will show you around. The CITA video was shot in New Orleans too. At the Saenger Theater. You know that pic of Styx and REO sitting together a loading dock from 99 or 00? That was taken at the back of the Saenger Theater. Also the cemetary pic that was Styx' promo shot a couple of years ago was shot here too.
There is also the famous Royal Orleans from the Led Zep song. Ray Davies lives here (from the Kinks). Jimmy Page has a son that lives here so here is here a lot. Met him once. This is a great rock town.

It is in the May22 issue of Blender Magazine, and the current issue of Rolling Stone Magazine that approximately every 7,500 Come Sail Away The Styx Anthology CD's have both Dennis's and Gowans version of Come Sail Away on it. It actually said 'the odds of receiving one of these collectable CD's is 1 - 7,777'. 'The Cd's are gold colored and if you are lucky enough to get one there is a telephone number to call where you will also receive airfare for, hotel accomadations , and backstage passes(4) to any Styx show between now and 2007. Thats pretty damn awesome!!!!

It is the Live Styxworld recording. I think it was from a show in Canada.

I dont know if this is true or not, but someone from the Styxworld Lounge(Forever Styx) says they know someone who purchased one of these CD's. They said it's airfair, hotel(5 star), where the band is staying, and backstage tickets for 4. They are trying to decide who to take, and what show to attend.
