50 worst songs of all time

Postby LordofDaRing » Thu May 13, 2004 12:38 pm

Well Blender magazine (whatever the F--- that is) and VH1 have teamed up to present a show about the 50 worst songs of all time. Blender has the list published already on their home page. I will save some of you the suspense, Babe and Mr Roboto were not on the list, which is actually surprising, not because I think they should be, but because they always seem to be easy targets. Here were some of the choices made by these so called critics and the Lord's comments:

The sounds of silence (simon and Garfunkle) - what jackass picked that one
Obladi Oblada (Beatles) - granted not Uncle Paul's best, but one of the 50 worst?
Superman (five for fighting) - I think this is actually a great song
Courtesy of the Red/White/blue (Toby Keith) - Toby is likely to go down to Blender magazine and put a Red Foreman boot up some commie's ass
You're the Inspiration (Chicago) - see my Beatle comment earlier
To sexy for my shirt (?) - good choice
Dancing on the Ceiling (Lionel Ritchie) - See Chicago comments
Longer (Dan Fogleberg) - C'mon where is the romance guys
Evrybody have fun tonight (Wang Chung) - uh ok, got me on that one
We built this city (Starship) gets the honor of the worst of all time..I think I can think of a few worse than that one...

Torn between two lovers (who cares) - yuck
Disco Duck (Rick Dees) - double yuck
Any song sung by the talentless Cher
I will always love you - (Whitney Houston) - somebody hit her, where is bobby brown when you need him
Convoy (CW McCall???) - Bad trend
the Streak (Ray Stevens) - See above
Any song by any boy band
Honey (Bobby Goldsboro) - I do cry....till it's over
She's like the wind (Patrick Swayze) - Is this a fart joke
Harlem Shuffle (Rolling Stones) - bad remake
Love is like oxygen (Sweet) - How many cliches can you put in one song
Any song by a rap "artist"
You don't bring me flowers (Striesand/Diamond) - Neil I use to like ya, Babs I still hate ya
Reunited (Peaches and Herb) - barf
Man in the mirror (Jacko) - doesn't the guy in the mirror molest kids

OK gang, start diggin them up

Careless Whisper - Wham
Wake Me Up Before You Go Go - Wham
Wild Wild West - The Escape Club
Kung-Fu Fighting - No clue, and don't care ;)
Shannon - Henry Grass (sounds like a whiney Bee Gees)
Mickey - Tony Basil
Friendly Advice - Tommy Shaw (ok, not a hit - but it still sucks)
Boys Will Be Boys - Dennis DeYoung
Out On A Day Pass - James Young

8) :P EXCELLENT song!!

You beat me to the punch. I was going to list what songs I like on the list and would should have been there too. I fell alseep before it was done, so I will make my list after I watch it later.

I figured without any doubt that Mr Roboto would be there too 'cause you are right, it usually makes these list as an easy target.

Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" was on that list and while it was not Billy's best is definitely not one of the 50 worst.

Maybe a different approach would be 50 worst of a decade or time period (cuz sometimes music eras lapse over the actual decade mark).

Also troubling was that there was a report that some music organization was playing (i think this already happened) the songs for the last time and was taking them out of airplay rotation forever.

I agree with everybody on this topic, including the comments about individual songs. I don't give VH-1 the time of day anymore on their top whatever lists. No countdown list is ever going to satisfy everyone, but I've yet to see one from VH-1 that's even close. What a joke!

Well, I did a quick scan through. Granted, some of these songs are extra cheese, but I sort of like them.

STARSHIP-WE BUILT THIS CITY. The worst of ALL TIME. You kiddin' me? Plus, I like it.
DEEP BLUE SOMETHING-BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
BILLY JOEL-WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE
CRACH TEST DUMMIES-MMMMMMMMMMMMM :P
BETTE MIDLER-FROM A DISTANCE. Great song. Came out too around the Gulf War and Show Me The Way.
CHICAGO-YOU'RE THE INSPIRATION
EUROPE-THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
MR MISTER-BROKEN WINGS. Great Song
MEATLOAF-I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE 8)
LIONEL RICHIE-DANCING ON THE CEILING
TOBY KEITH-R,W&B. You Kidding Me?

And these two. All right. Let me have it, but I sort of like them. Plus Dweezil Zappa makes and appearance.

EDDIE MURPHY-PARTY ALL THE TIME :P   :D
DON JOHNSON-HEARTBEAT :P   :D

You gotta' love Stryper making some of those in between polls. They get picked on so easily.

Achy Breaky Heart for sure belongs on the list.

I too don't pay a whole lot of attention to countdowns, list, etc.. Just for entertainment/kicks and to see some old footage.

You cant have a 50 worst songs list without Celine Dion's "My Heart will go on" Yuuuuuuck !

John Travolta's foray into top 40 was also worthy, called " Let her in" I believe.

Debby Boone's "you light up my life" deserves a top 5 mention, and the Captain & Tennile are a MUST for any of several songs.

My personal list would have a few Prince songs on it too.......I'll nominate "Rasberry beret" here...........

Okay my sides are starting to hurt from laughing so hard at some of these choices.

I'd have to add:

MacArthur Park-Donna Summer or Richard Harris
I Melt With You-Modern English
True-Spandau Ballet
Don't Give Up on Us baby-David Soul
Feelings-Morris Albert (I think that was his name)
Careless Whispers-Wham

I could go on, but now these songs are stuck in my head.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

We Built This City ........ was BRUTAL,, other BRUTAL songs were:
Dont Worry Be Happy... Who would buy this garbage???????
Squeeze Box- The Who-- AWEFUL
Safety Dance- maybe it was the midget in the video, midgets&clowns??
Rico Suave- Whos starving now???
Wake me Up Before You Go Go.... to the Park so I can zip up
I also thought Dont let It End, and Open Arms were just AWEFUL.

Instead of OPEN ARMS if Journey would of only named it BROKEN ARMS. Listen to that song and substitute Broken for Open. It makes the song much much better!!!!!

Styx this weekend in San Antonio!! Life is GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta go Welcome Back Kotter is about to come on.......

Froy NAILS it with KISS........

It is absolutely un-listenable ! I'd truly rather hear fingernails scraping along a teachers chalkboard.....Hell, give me Donna Summer before you make me listen to that piece of Trash !

Yes, the Prince version of KISS would be my all-time #1 WORST song of
all time.

A tough call....he is completely awful, but with W.H. he knows he isnt that good, whereas Prince has a DeYoungian sized ego ! He doesnt realize how AWFUL his version of KISS is !

So I'd have to choose ol' Willy over Prince if I had to choose, at least Willy isnt hitting thoose screaming shrill toned high " notes"

I've really tried to think of the song that made me cringe the most when I heard it. Not only because it was horrible, but because it was played into the ground. Without a doubt the worst song EVER has got to be....

Nothing Compares 2 U-Sinead O'Conner

The prince version on his Emancipation album is better, but still terrible. Not only was the song worse than a barium enima, but I had to slow dance to it at TWO formals in college!

Total and complete crapola.

I was laughing at some of the songs that most of you picked for being "the worse" songs.

I'm embarrassed that I like some of the songs that most of you posted - but I'm not going to say which ones - LOL

As for these lists on VH1 or these magazine, I wonder who gets to pick these? Sheesh

As an act of cruelty, I bring this thread back to the front of the list....

Today's truly atrocious song you won't be able to get out of your head after thinking about it here.......THE MACERENA !

Oh, and the sing-a-long song of the day for the protesters outside the hospice where Terri Schaivo is residing......

Don't leave me this way - Thelma Houston
