Info on Chuck

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Thu May 20, 2004 12:01 am

I found this information on another site. If you go to this link and then to "About Chuck", Chuck wrote a personal letter about his health. Just thought you would all be interested:

http://www.chuckpanozzosplace.com/

I also have it here, just in case you don't have time to check out the website:

Hello.

First, I'd like to thank Michele for offering to start this new web site and to everyone who has contributed photo's and signed the guest book.

It's literally a photo gallery of my life with Styx.

Being involved in AIDS research and my commitment to Equal Rights for All is as important to me, as is standing on stage with Styx. I feel that the day I said I would live my life as an openly gay man, the world embraced my being.

I've been given the unique opportunity to help make a difference. My music and artistic talents have come full circle which manifested in my involvement with pediatric AIDS. They have given a face and a voice to everyone of goodwill.
As a former teacher, I realize how important knowledge is. It's a way to eradicate prejudice and intolerance that we continue to challenge every day.
I've been living a quality of life I thought I had lost. That safe space was recently challenged by the diagnosis of prostate cancer. By drawing from my experience with HIV, I was able to face the idea of dealing with my cancer diagnosis.
I'm glad to report I'm cancer free as I type this.
I imagine as the months go by, this site will grow in the goodness through the fans who have so unselfishly given of themselves to make this site a safe place to dream.

In the spirit of peace...Chuck

That was my first reaction when I saw those pictures post a few weeks ago. But then I read that he was still recovering from his surgery that he just had prior to the signing. From what I read, he wanted to make the signing even though he wasn't up to it.

I have no idea on how he feels about the current line-ups and all the touring. From what I understand, he's entitled to show up for any concert that he feels up to, which is great for him.

Froy,

You are something!!! Looks bored???? I saw three pictures. Did I miss some??? In which pictures was boredom shown?? The guy just went through cancer surgery, and he has AIDS. Something tells me if he didnt want to be there he wouldnt of been. He has some pretty damn good excuses.

Well on the LUP (Chicago radio station) that morning the band said that Chuck hadn't been feeling too well. They said that he was supposed to have been there the night before for them to sing during the 7th inning stretch at the Cubs game, but he was too sick. I'm just glad he feels better these days. And I wish him well.

SMB, you are way too funny. Do you even realize that in just mentioning something you are doing or know that you almost always manage to let us know that you were 'back stage', or 'talking to someone who's a big deal, or going to be going somewhere.
I'm not doubting that you do all these things. Not at all. I just find it rather amusing that by 'just' mentioning something else, you always manage to tell us things like you were back stage at one point without really coming out and saying by itself, 'I was back stage.'
I have lurked for a long time and you amuse me the most. In a very subtle way in almost every post you manage to toot your own horn. :P

As Curly ( of the 3 stooges ) would say:

oh, a Wyyyyyyyzeguy !

Welcome to the board Wiseguy. While there may be some truth to your observation, it's a shame you had to use your 1st post to put down another poster...since you have been lurking here, surely you've noticed that while we sometimes get overzealous in our passions about the band or our opinions about one faction of it or another, you should also have noticed when we dont agree, we try to counter the opinion, not the person.

I know from reading a lot of her posts that Madame has a career that puts her in proximity with alot of bands / concerts / personnel, which is why she seems to be in a position to know inside information that I dont have access to ( Actually Madame, I'd be interested in knowing more about what you do if appropriate to share with the community ) I dont hold that against her, and appreciate that she's willing to share what she knows with us.

I'll get off the soapbox now, looking forward to your future posts
about any topic, other than disparaging remarks about other posters.

Regards..... -Classic

on such a serious topic as HIV and Cancer, in regards to one of the members of all versions of this band, why is it that Froy finds a way to slam Chuck and the band?

Chuck's battles are ahead of him with the cancer. I have heard that because of his HIV medication, he is unable to go through Chemo. So they are relying on the hope that they got all the cancer.

Word is that Chuck is feeling much better now, but the signing was only a few weeks after his surgery and no one really knew if he was going to be there.

It has been pretty much documented that Chuck is able to attend any show he wants. It really depends on how he is feeling and his health. I have actually been to a show where Tommy called him out, but during the show he wasn't feeling well so he never came, and they went on. It is up to Chuck how much he wants to play with the guys. i have also been told that he can't sustain too much of being on the road because so much of what he needs to do to keep himself healthy is staying in a routine and the road doesn't allow for that.

I wish Chuck well, as he battles what must be a difficult time in his life.

I know Froy is pro-Dennis, but that was not necessary.

My sincerest hope is that Chuck gets healthy again and can do what he wants in life.

As to the comment from the "newbie" about SMB. Well, I, for one, know this nice lady and she is a lady in every way. I love when people share their experiences in meeting up with the band members or post some real NEWS, like SMB does. We have found out a lot of things from her sleuthing skills and I thank her for it.

Styxfan,

You said what I was trying to say in my above post to Froy. He ALWAYS finds a way of slamming anyone related to the current Styx that isnt named Dennis. The poor guy is fighting TWO life threatening illnesses give him, the band, and the people who showed up for this happy, fun event a break.

We will never know for sure, but Chuck probably wanted to get out of the house, see some friends, and some smiling faces.

Only Froy could turn this into a slam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On another TOTALLY different note, read Dennis's wifes response to a posters questions. The question I am referring to she goes on &on & on & on about certain songs Dennis now performs. Lady is her favorite. One song she states she never really cared for is Best Thing. She goes on to stated that she hopes one day JY and Dennis can get back together to rerecord this song. This read is very interesting. To me she sees JY in a positive light. She never talks about Tommy. I wonder if she sees Tommy as the real problem????? Many of you slam JY HARD, I am sure she reads the same articles. To me she comes off JY friendly, and maybe anti Tommy. Shes a GREAT read, maybe I will purchase her book. I actually enjoy her writing!!!!

I agree with StyxfanNH, and wish Chuck a long remission that leads to him being labeled cured of the cancer when that is appropriate.....( Usually a 5 year period ) I cant back this up scientifically, but I do believe a positive attitude and a desire to be and stay healthy has alot to do with a Cancer Patient and/or survivors long term prognosis. Chuck having been through
the HIV problems, probably decided he wouldnt let a little thing like Cancer bring him down, not after all he's ben through !

Lest you think "their goes Classic spouting off about something he knows nothing about AGAIN" ( and I bet a few of you had that thought......) I am a Cancer Survivor, it's been 4 years and 8 days since I was diagnosed. Happily, they got it all, and it has shown no signs of returning to date.

Anyways, Chuck, I'm rooting for you !

I wasn't trying to be make light of the subject matter at all. I just finally needed to say something and that happened at this topic. SMB is the one who used a sensitive topic to once again brag about something. It was directed at SMB and no one else. No harm, maybe they weren't even aware they were doing that.

Most of us don't know each other, any more than the personalities we create through our postings. Whether you agree or disagree with what gets posted, there are times we need to put the politics aside. This is one of those times.

Classic I am glad for you to be cancer free for so long, may you never have to go through that again.

Chuck will always have my support and good wishes as will any member of the band should something like this occur with any of them.

Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and wishes...a couple quick details , and then lets get back to talking Styx ( I didn't mean for this to be a big distraction )

My Cancer was caught very early, and my course of treatment was very brief compared to most, I was never in a life threatening situation, so I never had the "oh my god, I'm going to die" thoughts / fears others live with. I have been considered "in remission since Autumn of 2000, the Chemo
which I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy did it's job very well. If you've ever thought research dollars for Cancer research are money wasted, my writing this is testimony that
they are not.....25 years ago, this same cancer would have killed me.

And if you are wondering what variety I had, let's just say the Paul McCartney Lyric " Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be......." has a whole different meaning to me !

Classic,

I too know the sting of cancer..I lost my Father 20 years ago as of May 19th..Watching what he went through was the most difficult part of my past..Seeing him being worn down from 200 lbs to 105 and then his passing because of cancer was really hard for me..

I'm glad that you caught it early and it's great to have you as a member of this forum..I only wish that we could have met at Dennis's concert back in January..Maybe something will come up where we will meet..Here's Hopin'...
May you have long life and much happiness and hope that you will stay cancer free...
