SOUNDS LIKE???

Postby yogi » Thu May 27, 2004 10:46 pm

Two days ago I received my order for a CD called Hugo- Fire In The Night. I purchased it along with Mickey Thomas's CD from NEH records because of this web site. Anyway, it is unreal how much Hugo sounds like Steve Perry. Whats spookier is how much he looks like Steve Perry. I had never really heard a voice like Perry's up until I saw the 'Now' Journey in 1999 with Foreigner in San Antonio. When they opened up with Seperate Ways if I would of closed my eyes there is NO way I would have known that it was Steve Agueri singing instead of Steve Perry. Now with this guy Hugo, you could keep your eyes open and still not know the difference.

As for his CD, at first I didnt think the material was very good, but now its starting to grow on me. Songs 11&12 I really like. The Mickey Thomas CD is VERY VERY good.

My question out of all of this is: Are there voices out there that really sound like Dennis Deyoung's?? I know the guy from Stryper sounds just like Dennis. I still remember the first time I heard Honestly. I was in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and made a special trip to the Wal Mart because I thought Styx or Dennis may have a new CD out. Dennis and Steve's voices are sooo good and unique. Steve definately has some clones. One even looks like him. How about Dennis????

Out of all the music that I listened to, there is only one singer that sounds like Dennis. He's the lead singer for a local group called "Light Up" a Tribute to Styx band. I brought a few friends to the concert and they said that the lead singer sounds just like Dennis.

Here is their website, you can check out a few song clips. It's better to see them live. I'm seeing them this Sunday for my Styx Fix - LOL

If you go to the bottom of the page, there's a few interesting Styx sites to check out :)

Wow, now it makes even more sense why I am into Styx/Stryper so much. I am right now constantly listening to Stryper's 7 Weeks Alive In America 2003, and the more I listen, the more I hear Dennis. No wonder so many Stryper fans think that Dennis has such a great voice too. When Michael and Dennis carry out a note, especially a high note, they sound like clones/twins. Unreal. Starting to freek me out a bit! :?
Everyone that I trade cd's with has been getting that cd as a little bonus. 8) :P
Great comments so far!

Froy,
So what you are saying is that if Styx had gotten a DDY vocal clone to replace Dennis kind of like Journey did with Steve A replacing Steve P., you would go see them???????

Pieces,

Whats freakier is how much Hugo LOOKS & sounds like Steve Perry. What was that album called??? 'Twin Sons Of Different Mothers'. I swer if you closed your eyes you could NEVER tell the difference in their voices. Then you could open your eyes look at the CD photos and you would think its 1983 and you are looking at a current photo of Steve Perry.

Froy,

This Hugo CD is a MUST for you. Do EXACTLY what I told Pieces Of Eight to do. It would be 1983 all over again for you. Reagan is President and EVERYTHING makes sense again. You could run to your mail box daily to see if your new 'Kilroy Was Here' 8 track has arrived yet. Dont forget to 'take your shoes off in the house', and 'turn down that racket'.

Madame,

What is the name of the singer in the Styx tribute band? Are they on a label? Any CD's for sale at their shows(cover songs or orginal material)?? I would love to hear them!!!

Yogi, the lead singers name is Bobby Rouse. He has won a few WAMI awards (the WI version of the Grammy's) for male vocalist. This band also won last years award. They (Light Up) was suppose to play Summerfest this year, but was taken out since Styx will be there (LOL). If you go to the site you can read their notes. The former keyboard player told me that Bobby was called by Glen himself to try out for the new line up of Styx back in 99'. Don't know if it's totally true, but that's what I heard. They're also a cover band, Rhythm Method when they don't play as Light Up. They can only play church festivals at Light Up and not Rhythm Method, because of the name - LOL

Rhythm Method (they will be playing a few Styx songs in the set) will be playing at Summerfest opening for Frampton. I have a "feeling" that Styx "might" be staying to watch the show, they're playing the night before and they're not scheduled until July 2nd in ND. Sorry, I'm not bragging here, just a few thoughts!!! 8)

No they don't have a label, but people from other states have seen them play and were amazed. I talked to one of the members a few months ago. They're trying to release their DVD but are having trouble getting the clearance from Styx (which is understandable). I'll find out more this Sunday. They also added older Styx songs to the setlist, I'll find out which ones :)

I'm going to see if I can video tape them this Sunday. When they played Summerfest last year, a LOT of people thought they were Styx until they got a look at them - LOL

I have to agree with you, Hugo sounds and looks exactly like Perry!! Just my opinion. I'm going to check out his new cd, thanks

No that's not what Im saying
They kicked out Dennis because he would not split royalty money from the VW commercial , There money hungry losers who would sell there wives to the highest bidders for cash.
I would see a band that does not say they are STYX but covers there music .
