Just Think of how many songs Dennis's has

Postby froy » Sat Jul 31, 2004 12:56 am

Thinking about what songs Dennis has never played live or played only a few times makes me think of how many he could bring back or take out of the closet/

You have
WHY ME
Borrowed Time
Father
Pieces of 8
Lonely People
This OLd Man
Back To Chicago
High Time
Music Time
This Is The Time
Boys Will Be Boys
Don't wait For Heroes
Ballerina
Jennifer

There's more for sure
I think about the current Styx who just plays the same old standards 500 shows and counting

While avoiding the other part of this thread (assembly line for Yogi)

He could also add:

Boomchild
Harry's Hands
Call Me
Unfinished Song (for Suite)
Nothing Ever Goes As Planned
Southbound Ryan

And I think that the current line up could/has at times change it's set list, probably more than they are given credit for.

Froy / Suite,

While I share your enthusiasm for most of the songs you both have listed......reality is he cant really dust off most of those songs, because his mainstream audience doesn't know them.....

75 percent of the set list I saw him do in January have to be set in stone on his list, because those are the songs the more casual fan
wants to hear...

Plus, as long as continues performing with symphonic back-up,
set list changes will be limited to what his composer can put together.

Now, on the other hand, an "unplugged" tour would allow him the freedom to make more sweeping changes to the set list.....and THAT'S a show I would love to see !

Perhaps Dennis would one day consider doing a show similar to what Kansas does once a year.....they call it "Wheatfest" and it's a show that all of Kansas diehard fans travel to from points all over the country..........at a gathering of the diehards, he could play such songs for an audience that would truly appreciate them !

Classic,

Sadie responded to Froy  Thank you for thinking of me

Dennis has played "Harry's Hands" in 2000 and "Back To Chicago" in 2004.

"Pieces of Eight" will be added in the next tour with the possibilities of "Queen of Spades" or "I'm Okay".

When he tours with a co-headliner his next tour, he's going to be changing his set list, adding a few more songs and taking away a few.

Classic,

I fully understand that DDY couldn't change much of his set list, I was just doing a wishful thinking scenario. Either way, I'll still enjoy the show.

Oh and you can call me Suite. I like bragging

I know that it is a very expensive proposition to add any songs to an orchestra show because of the cost of all the music arrangements. So if he puts in Pieces of Eight and I'm OK, then that may be it as far as new adds to his orchestra concerts.

What would be wonderful would be for him, at some point in the concert, to sit at a keyboard and knock out a few of the songs mentioned here. Unplugged, as Classic suggested. No arrangement necessary other than what he would put into it. That would just be awesome and something he could easily do. He could even throw in a few covers, for fun.

Goodbye Roseland would be another song that I would add to the list of songs we have never heard Dennis do.

I have yet to hear DDY with the orchestra, but hope to hear him when he makes it to Boston this fall.(I'm hoping).

Maybe with a new album, he will tour to support it and that will then give him the opportunity to play a different selection of songs.

This is great news! Is there anywhere I can hear the interview?

I know someone said they had a CD of it, but I don't have anything to really trade since I put my stuff on a site for people to download (radio show stuff).

I'd really like to hear this if someone has it or knows where I can listen to it.

Thanks;

I could go for the first 5 songs on your list plus Jennifer. The rest can stay in the closet as far as I'm concerned! Just my opinion and personal preference :D

Never said it was perfect, I figured i missed a few when i searched my database. Gotta see what happened. I'll try to fix the list, but it is pretty close.

I also used StyxNet as my resource and the album credits.

If Dennis just stopped performing, I think that'd be just great.
