I guess I'm not much of a fan....my longest sojourn to see Styx or members of was the 90 minute drive I took to Rockford to see Dennis in January.

The longest I've ever driven to any show was 2 1/2 hours to see Paul McCartney back in the early 90's.....at the time it was uncertain weather he would ever tour again, so I couldnt let myself go through life without seeing a member of the Beatles perform live......also, the most I've ever paid for a concert ticket...
$75, which is not even out of the ordinary now, but it was 10 + years ago.

and as it turned out, I got to see him again a couple of years later, closer to home...

I'm still trying to figure the most I have ever driven non stop, but I know that the most I paid per ticket for a concert was about $100 for the Ealgles and Van Halen. Then you turn around and pay $30 to see great bands every night for a whole week and the earlier you show up, the better seat you get.
It might be about 10 or 12 hours each way that I have driven in the past for varying acts. But then again, going to concerts is my favorite thing to do.
A lot of it depends on who it is, why, where, time of year, days of the week, options for seating, rare, once in a lifetime, price, etc....

I've heard of people driving 17 hours one way to catch someone they like and then driving back right after the show.

I also know there are some Styx fans who went to Japan a few years ago to catch them in concert there. Now that's obsession!!!!

As for expensive, well I've been pretty lucky. But then, I don't like to pay big bucks for concerts, which is why I've missed so many.

How far ????

Postby gr8dane » Sat Aug 21, 2004 6:54 am

The longest I drove to see Styx was 6 hours.Missed a turn somewhere which added an hour.
The longest ever for any band was about 20 hours each way.Drove from Toronto Ontario to North Carolinas Progday and saw the German band Kraan. I thought I would never see them again after moving to Canada from Denmark. Was it worth it...Absolutely.Was I tired...I was f@#**n nackered.

Let's see the farthest I drove was to see Dennis in Appleton (WI) and Chicago, I live between both cities.

The farthest I traveled by plane was to see Dennis in NYC. The only reason I flew there was because my brother lives there :) Not that I'm totally obsessed, nah, not me - LOL I took my Dad with me and we all saw the concert together. My Dad knew all the Hunchback songs and he was familiar with the Styx songs from listening to them when I was younger - LOL

I can't see driving 17 hours for concert and then driving back. I'd have to stay over a night or 2. That's just crazy.

As for the expense of tickets, I've been pretty lucky these past few years for most of the concerts that I've seen.

about 7 hours total from NH to Philly, but that included a 5 hour trip to NYC before I ended up in Philly. Honestly, I wouldn't have gone to Philly if NYC wasn't in the mix.

When I was 18, I drove from NH to Philly for Live Aid. (and by the way, it is coming out on DVD this fall) For 18, that was a hige trip for me.

Kraan

Hi SuiteMadameBlue
Kraan plays a nice little blend of krautjazzrockfusion, and there is nothing like it.Their home page on www.kraan.de is a very good thourough page.
On www.allmusic.com you can hear some samples if you are interested.Try Tournee.
All the best

Hi,
Because STYX haven`t played the UK for God knows how many years. When STYX were touring on the back of the Brave New World album in 2000.My friends & I flew from London (UK) to Frankfurt (Germany) & then drove for roughly 6 hours down to Munich to see them play at Circus Krone. Then the following day we drove for roughly 3 hours to Furth to see them on the final night of the European Tour.Needless to say it was a very tiring trip, although it was definately worth it.
