California seems to get the best concerts.

Arrowfest 2004 is happening on October 2nd at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and this year's lineup is Boston, REO Speedwagon, Styx, John Kay and Steppenwolf, .38 Special and the Edgar Winter Group. Tickets go on sale to the public this Sunday, August 29th, at noon.

Have to agree. Last year sucked, big time!! Eddie Money? Cheap Trick should have stayed in a garage, Foreigner should be fined for their "performanc, yes, Lou, can you read this? Yes was HORRIBLE...so, Journey HAD to follow that shit.....half the crowd was asleep!! after Yes!
Journey was STELLAR!! I agree, Styx is awesome AND REO is always good live.....but this bill sucks..Boston?? Should have invited Journey back!!

Hey, Lou Gramm is not to balme for his perfomence, it's not his fault his voice isn't what is used to be. You have to admit hearing Lou is still better than listening to 50 Cents or maroon 5. ugh! And I love Cheap trick and Eddie Money, both classics.

Froy Froy Froy you keep outdoing yourself and you amaze me.
There is a 5 band concert and you seem to like about 3 of them and would would maybe see them under normal circumstances. But beause Styx is on you are not.May i suggest a little stroll to the beer tent for a quick 6 pints and by the time you are done next band will be on and bingo bongo problem solved. If the beer tent is too close to the stage i would like to recommend a couple of cottenballs for clogging the old earholes.
All the best.
By the way somebody is selling 3 DDY cds on ebay for about 20 bucks.

I thought he made a typo....Styx off the bill? Come on! I saw Journey Styx and Speedwagon and they were all superb. Styx will probably, no, will be the best act on this years ' Arrowfest. Boston has really declined, and REO is great, but just a little under Twigs in my opinion.

Geez, for the most part, all I can say to the last several posts is....what do you expect from these guys ? it's a who's who list of bands that reached their commercial Zenith.....in 1979 ! Guys like Tommy Shaw, who sound just as good as they did 25 years ago are the exception to the rule...as are bands with the original ( and to many peoples opinions the best ) lineups still in tact.

If you are getting a good show from 3 out of 5 of these Dinasour rockers, consider it money well spent, hell, even 2 out of 5 should be considered a victory ! Of course when we are talking about $50 or more per ticket......
well, that's subject to the listeners discretion as to getting their $$$ worth....

I Just think you're fooling yourself if you go expecting these guys to sound like they did in their prime years....it just ain't gonna happen in most cases.

classic:
I'd agree with you if we were strictly talking vocals. However, I think the music sounds a lot better these days, for a couple of reasons. First of all, technology has helped a lot. Secondly, many of the older touring musicians are more focused these days without the past distractions of sex and drugs, etc. In the handful of shows that I've seen by more experienced artists, I think they've only gotten better with time. Now I will concede that a fair amount of lead singers have lost a bit of range as the years have gone by. (Happily, Dennis and Tommy are not part of that group!)

ek, your points are valid, and in some cases I agree with you, I thought the Eagles show I saw last year was awesome ( but I never saw them in their prime, so no comparison can be made )

aside of the vocals, in most cases, these bands are operating on a shoe string budget.....they may be performing as well but the sound systems aren't what they once were, and the visual effects are at a minimum...granted these things arent about the music, but they are a part of the experience.

I dont see as many live shows as many of you though, so perhaps my opinion on this topic isnt as well informed as it should be....

My point is....that my favorite Styx album is Equinox and after that they made great songs but the albums as a whole could not match Equinox.I bought every studio album (before and after) by them anyways. This does not mean that I would not go and see Styx in some form or other.
No band can keep upping their previous efforts year after year obviously, therefore you sometimes gotta take what you can get.
I have seen Dennisless Styx several times and had a great time.
I also saw DennisStyx several times though it was not until Cornerstone. They did not play much of Equinox maybe 2 songs, and I still enjoyed it.
Dennisless Styx is better than no Styx.
Just my humble opinion.
