Okay, first Thank You Sadie for posting the interview. :D

Yes, he does talk about the same subjects over and over, yes the interviewer's are always asking the same questions over and over and most are not doing their homework, seriously. This goes for newspaper, tv and radio interviews.

Now to my bragging, if you don't want to hear it then don't read it!

Several of you already know this, but for those that don't here it is. I'll try to make my looooooong story short - LOL

I had the opportunity to work on a documentary last summer. It was about the Harley Fest, which Styx was a part of. It was one of Glen's last concerts with them BTW. I had the chance to interview JY. Before we started, I asked him if there was anything he didn't want to talk about (I had done my homework, something I don't think enough "journalists" do-LOL). He said that I could ask about anything.

Now in this interview, he didn't say anything negative about Dennis. In fact, he seemed kinda nostalgic talking about recording the Grand Illusion album. I honestly got a sense that he knows he is missing a good thing from his past. But then, when you see these interviews, and let's be honest, we seen several in the last year, it makes people who do care either mad or sad. I don't know why he can't just say it's over and move on. But even if the reporter didn't do his/her homework, and even if they are baiting him, he still has the ability to respond differently. I made sure I didn't feed him anything to get him upset (come on, I wanted a good interview-LOL). he's been in this business a long time. You'd think he would know how to avoid this crap if he wanted to. So IMO, he doesn't. And that is what gets some people ticked.

I hope the film will released next year. If it is, I'll let you all know about...cuz I love bragging :P

What do yall'(Texas lingo) think of the Swift Boat ads??? You may not like them, but do you think these soldiers have a right to speak their peace about something that has bothered them for decades??? Was it right for Kerry to come back from the front lines and speak his peace??? Should one be allowed to do it, and not the other?? Do we have the right to speak our side, if we know the inside stories?? Or should we just shut up, and make happy????? Ones a MUCH MUCH MUCH more serious issue, still it's the same damn thing. It's an issue our country was founded on, it's actually kind of like the Kilroy concepet Dennis came up with!!!

Yogi,

I'd find the Swiftboat veterans ads more credible if it hadnt taken them 30 years to come forward......what, they had no objections to
Kerry being one of the most powerful men in the country ( A U.S. senator ) but now that he's the democratic nominee, their consciences will no longer allow them to keep silent ?

I feel the same way about those who waited until Bush runs for a 2nd term to "call him out" on his tour of Duty in the Nat'l guard.

It's all H2O under the bridge at this point, which seems to be the overriding opinion of many here regarding the "departure" of DDY.

I'd expand on the Politics...but not here, PM me or head over to the Politics board......I suspect we see thing a bit differently in this arena.

Well, I would agree with that if it were only one or two interviews, but it seems fairly consistent in several of the recent interviews he's done. And while words can and often are distorted in print, it wouldn't explain the radio interviews where he's made these same types of statements.

I am not suggesting JY doesn't have the right to speak his mind or that he isn't entitled to his opinion. Just that I myself don't see these statements as being productive or necessary. It's his choice and I respect it. I just don't like it. LOL

Peace,

Kiddo......Interesting comment, but I think you could say the same thing about the majority of "rank and file" Americans, couldn't
you ?

I think you might be confusing me with bugsymalone who came up with that most apropos comment about JY. :-)

IMO, money is why he stayed in Styx and sang harmony on "Babe", as well as why he voted to tour when Dennis asked the band to wait until he could regain his health.

Having said that, I agree this is such a tired discussion.

Funny how the people in here who don't want to turn this into a political forum, seem to be the ones always firing the first politcal scud, then quickly retreating. No tipper's in here, just more people practicing their first ammendment rights. I haven't heard anybody say JY doesn't have the right to say what he says, just that some of us don't agree with it. That is our right.

For anyone wanting to sift through the chronicled words of James Young, there are many interviews posted at his website:

http://www.jamesyoung.ws/intviews/scene.htm

is the link to one from 1983 in which he talked about how helpful a conceptual theme was to his own song writing style.

Quite true. Now if we could just figure out what JY TRULY believes, it would be helpful. Apparently whichever way the wind blew, he would wet a finger, test it out, say it was blowing just perfectly....OOPS! When it changed directions, my goodness, well, THAT was good too.

Recent wind tests:

2004 - Best Lineup Ever
1977 - The GLORY years

So what is it, Mr. Young??

I see absolutely no contradiction in JY's "Best Lineup" and "Glory Years".

A "Lineup" is a particular group of musicians and the total sum of the parts. What he means is - player for player - it is the most proficient assemblage of musicians & singers, technically at the very least. The currewnt reythm section of Styx is the best ever, the backround singing is excellent (4 singers) and the keyboardist is an extremely agile classically trained pianist. This refers to the way the members of the band play TECHNICALLY.

"Glory" means when the band triumphed commercially. You can be sure there were many parties, much patting on the back, the V.I.P. treatment. This refers to the way the band was CELEBRATED.

Words have meanings, definitions, you know?.

Bottom line: you like Dennis, so you search for something/ANYTHING to crank about whenever JY is quoted. I'm certain you don't treat Dennis' interviews the same way. That's way narrow-minded, dude. Trivial. Petty.

I posted an earlier, sarcastic reply to Adam, posted it and felt two things afterwards:

One, this discussion has reached the end-point.

Two, I was just reacting in a petty way. No need for that.

So I just deleted what I said.

Time to move on.

I frankly don't care what Mr. Young says anymore in an interview. No offense, but he's not really said anything new in a long time. Other than the nebulous talk about how great their new music, I've not had a real reason to get excited about the new Styx. Honestly, how many different ways can you say "The DeYoung Era Sucked" which seems to be the permanent title of anything he ever talks about when referring to the pre 1999 version of Styx.

I'm not expecting to hear anything different from him... so I've tuned out. I don't need James Young to trash my memories of one of the world's greatest bands. It's kinda like meeting your favorite artist for the first time and saying "WOw I just wanted to tell you how much "song X" meant to me" and him turning around and saying "Oh I always hated that song"... after a while you just don't want to hear it anymore.
