Now read the part of one from Today's Toledo Blade with Dennis DeYoung I have posted here.

He acknowledged that he has not spoken with his former Styx colleagues for years, but said he has no hard feelings toward them and gives them credit for creating music that touched millions of listeners.

"Styx was all those members; all those guys contributed to the success of the band," De-Young said. "And I was part of it. I think I was an important part, but really everybody was responsible in no small way for the success of the band. And I'm really proud of the music we created during that period."

DeYoung recently released a DVD featuring 11 songs from the live Soundstage performance, and a two-disc live album, "Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx Live with a Symphony Orchestra," was released last week on the Rounder/Universal label. Detailed information on his solo career is available online at www.dennisdeyoung.com.

DeYoung said that even after three decades, he never gets tired of playing his hit songs.

"When I play the first few notes of a song and people start screaming, I think: 'That's why I did this. That's why I wrote this song. That's a good job.' And it is a job," DeYoung said. "There are all kinds of pretensions about art, but I'm just a guy who sings for his supper. I still see myself as the kid who plays accordion and tries to keep people happy for 45 minutes. And there's nothing wrong with that."

Thanks for sharing this. It's so nice to see him in such a comfortable spot. I'm sure they are all sick of being questioned. This is truly a very classy way to answer.

Great article and Dennis is just a professional day after day.
You look at JY 's sour grapes then you read Dennis saying nothing but good things and you know who the real man is.

Conduct 100 percent beyond reproach throught the entire history of Styx ?

Doubtful.

But.......you can't say much negative about his conduct over the past few years ( after the Lawsuit was settled ) can you ?

In any marriage, and let's face it, marriage is analagous to being in a band.....whenever there is conflict, a portion of the blame usually can be allocated to both sides......

Dennis is not perfect, but then again, who is ? The point of this thread is, whose recent public personna has shown the most class ?

That's a little more like it.Some posts are so black and white that it is a little too much(nauseating).
I was not in the studio, on tour or in court with Styx,so I do not know the whole story.
I guess some of the folks here were.

I did want to mention,that it sounds like Dennis is at peace with himself and the past.

I was not in the studio, on tour or in court with Styx, so I do not know the whole story. I guess some of the folks here were.

All most of us here have to base perceptions on is the public statements, comments and answers to interview questions from these individuals who were all in the band we gather here to discuss.

In comparing those of Dennis to those of JY and Tommy and Glen (in the past -- not recently, in the case of the latter two), the only one who has consistently recognized the contributions all the members made to Classic Styx, and talked about it in a positive light, is Dennis.

It's nice to see that Dennis appears to be at peace with this issue. This is the first interview that I have read where there are no shots being taken at the other members. Good for Dennis. Maybe this can be the beginning of some type of reconciliation, but I still think they are at least 5 years away.

When you get right down to it, and not that I'd know this 1st hand, but I suspect DDY's excrement stinks just as bad as yours or mine....... Suite ? ( Just Kidding !!!! ) My wife might argue mine is worse than just about anyones... :oops:

JY would tell you Gowan's doesn't though :wink:

Keep in mind that Dennis hasn't been opposed to reconciliation at any point in time, judging from his BTM remarks.

Imagine Dennis being "invited back" (even as a guest on occasion) and his voice joining in with the current lineup. WOW, wouldn't that be just grand?

Come to think of it though, it might be more likely that the rest of STYX would join Dennis on occasion. Considering where they play (Dennis: great concert halls, STYX: icky red-neck fairs :-)

, I expect Dennis wouldn't want to join back up with STYX.

NOTE to argumentative whiners: I'm not flaming the current STYX, I think they sound great and I think Cyclorama is a damn fine album, I'm just saying that Dennis generally frequents much classier venues than does STYX.

When Styx performs 100 - 125 times a year, some of the shows they play are the fair circuit, others are the sheds or amphitheatres, casinos and some of those "classy" venues that DDY plays in. Its easier only to play in those "classy" venues when you are only playinig 12-18 shows a year.

I think the "Guest Appearance" idea is the ONLY way you'll ever see TS, JY and the boys on the same stage with DDY after 1997......

The difference between 110 + and less than 20 shows are year is too wide of a chasm to ever bridge......TS and JY will never slow down to that point, and Dennis will never again work that much/hard.

It'a a longshot at best, and if it ever happens , it's likely to happen ONLY in Chicago.

And that is why I see/hear Styx here in Toronto,and not Dennis.Dennis play for the few,and Styx play for everybody.
Dennis does his bit,and Styx do theirs.
Life goes on,and thank god so do the individuals of Styx,past and present.
Or something along those lines.

Didn't I read about Dennis doing a few shows with his band before he set oot on the symphony thing? I recall reading something on his website. The impression I got was that these shows were on the corndog circuit and not that impressive.

One person's corndog is another person's filet mignon. And personally, I'd rather see Dennis in a theatre than Styx at the Bumblefuck County Fair.

Oh ... just got back from a week in New Orleans... Styx is there in 2 weeks at the House Of Blues. According to the box office, it's less than 50% sold. By contrast the Deftones were there last Monday and sold out in hours (I know as I tried to get a ticket).

Oh Dennis has played his share of fairs and fests and casinos. Just not in the startling numbers that his former band has done.

Depends upon one's point of view if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Doesn't supply and demand suggest that more shows would result in smaller venues, as well as vice versa? Until both Dennis and Styx play an equal amount of shows per year, it's impossible to draw any meaningful conclusions.

Having said that, by playing red-neck fairs here in Nebraska a couple of times, Styx has saved me considerable travel time (which I personally appreciate), even if it means I don't get to experience a classier venue or a more packed show!!!

Still, I wish Dennis would schedule a stop here in Nebraska. The Quest Center in Omaha is new and fairly state-of-the-art. I'm sure it would be classy enough for him. We might even be able to hook him up with a corndog from the concession stand

Just as a comparison, if DDY sells out his show in St. Louis in the spring, he will sell 1,625 seats. It may be a new venue, but it ain't that big.

This is how the venue describes the seating:
