Studio Releases

Postby classicstyxfan » Wed Nov 10, 2004 2:42 am

So, who will release their 1st......Styx, or Dennis ? Neither one is playing live ( unless they are doing more of those corporate / private gigs ) in the next 5-6 months.

Are they working or relaxing ? I'm ready for something new....

Styx is opening up dates in January.

I am the Walrus has been released to more than 1000 stations. Those stations that are placing it into their rotation are getting some decent review from the fans. The Loop in Chicago is the front runner in this. Tommy said it is supposedly going to be released soon to the fans, whatever that means.

Tommy will be playing at Toby Keith's Christmas Show with Jack Blades and at Alice Coopers Christmas show with Jack Blades.

And Styx supposedly has this EP that is going to hit the market sometime aftert the first of the year.

As far as "New" material, Styx maybe fall of next year, Don't know about Dennis but we keep hearing he has some stuff that is ready to go.

But I agree, It is definitely time for some new stuff from both of them.

Well, I'm very curious to see what happens to Styx in the studio. Especially without Glen Burtnik in tow. I'm thinking we may be a bit disappointed with some of these results. Too soon to tell, though they've set some pretty high goals in the past and still reached them.

Dennis, on the other hand, I think will eventually get a new solo album out. Key word here is eventually. We may have to wait a while longer, but who knows? He could have the album in the can and is just waiting for his time to come!! (Styx pun intended!!!)

I would guess there might be some checking in with what is happening in each camp by, well, each camp.

That said, I would guess that if either Dennis or his former band had their studio productions ready to go, they would go ahead and release them.

It will be interesting to see what type of recording will come from both groups. Dennis' latest original compositions, according to me ONLY, are: Really, REALLY good -- My God Can Beat Up Your God. Pretty good -- Goodnight My Love. OK, but not my style -- Hello God. The production values for all three are stellar.

It will be interesting to see what creative juices are still flowing for all concerned and what will come from them.

Lastly. Do they all have record deals for CD's of new material???

Styx deal is for at least one more new material album.

I would imagine that Dennis would be contracted for at least 1 more new material album as part of his deal with Rounder Records who is distributing his Symphony cd.

Dennis has 10 NEW songs ready for his next cd. Since I can't remember details (LOL), I think there are 5 that have been completed and recorded. Like I said in a previous post, I heard one and it ROCKS!!!! I LOVE IT!! I'll see if I can find out a "target" release date.

I think I mentioned this before, but there will be new concert dates on Dennis' site soon. I saw one for Phoenix and I'm hoping the Milwaukee one works out  I know that he'll be playing a new Classic Styx song for sure for that date

Suite,

That is great news about Dennis having songs done and recordeed. Personally, I can't wait to hear what he comes up with. It's been too long since we've heard original material from him.

Hope he comes to the Boston area.

Here is part of an article from August with JY. I copied/pasted the part about a new studio album, regarding Carrot Styx. I can't wait to see the picture on the next album, I need to come up with a new cute name - LOL

LK - What is in the future for Styx? You have some projects already in sight?

JY – Oh, we’re working, we’re working. We’re gonna release a studio album probably a year from now and we’ve got these recordings that we did with Coco Taylor and Johnny Johnson, who was Chuck Berry’s piano player. They’ll becoming Itunes downloads probably sometime in October. There’s probably an EP that’s got those on it and a few other things that we’re doing live now that will come out the first part of next year and then a new Styx studio album the third or fourth quarter of 2005.

LK - So you still feel pretty strong about recording then?

JY - We do. We think Cyclorama - our most recent studio album - is a great record and everyone that has taken the time to listen to agrees with me. I just talked to someone who said they listen to that record all the time, and they think it’s a great record. I think we had something to prove with that because a lot had been ascribed to the previous keyboard player, that it was all about him, so we made a great record without him and we’re going to continue to do that and as I say - we are trying to climb Everest for the second time as a recording act.

...new Styx studio album the third or fourth quarter of 2005.

And maybe that "someone" mentioned in the second answer will buy that one, too, and "listen to it all the time", too!
That sure convinced ME that they are so much better without their former keyboard player.

I would just like to see the next release by Dennis or Styx given a chance to succeed on its own merits. What would it hurt to give either party some well-deserved airplay? It's the least that classic rock stations could do to say "thank you" for classic Styx's contribution to their livelihood. Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen and we will continue to speculate as to whether DDY or Styx is selling thousands (or maybe even hundreds) more than the other
