How many helpings of crow would you like when it hits VH1?

And most here provide their own proof of the "facts" they use to support their position, they don't expect those that feel differently to do the research for them.

Can we just give this bullshit a rest already? For God's sake... we all know where we stand... this kind of stuff really isn't doing anything constructive.

Styx is being played on the radio... great... very cool. Dennis is being interviewed constantly.... even better.

The only real "down" thing as far as Styx goes is that because it's a remake, they don't get any royalty residuals - those go to the song writers. They may use this song to sell a new record, but there's not much $$$ in terms of radio play for them.

Ash,

I agree with your 1st sentance entirely.....

and as for IATW......while having it earn Styx alot of money would be nice for them, I'd argue it's giving them something they might want even more than cash......Relevance. ( mind you it's a small portion of, but any is better than none ! )

Besides, Yoko and Paul could use a little extra cash ! Or is it Michael Jackson who owns the Beatles catalog these days?

If so, how ironic is that ? Styx putting money in the King of Pop's pocket !

If one doesn't like the direction a subject has gone........just don't read about it anymore

I for one enjoy a place where we can debate both sides and discuss most anything. Not to many places where you can do this anymore. I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts/opinions and if it gets to heated, I move on.

Styx's Live Walrus Recording to Debut on iTunes; Styx's Version of ``I Am The Walrus'' Hits Top 10 on Classic Rock Charts

Styx's version of the classic Beatles song "I Am The Walrus" (Photo: Business Wire)

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 2004--Styx's version of the classic Beatles song "I Am The Walrus" has hit the Top Ten on the Mediabase Classic Rock chart within two weeks of the song's (date) release. The single will debut to consumers worldwide exclusively through Apple's iTunes Music Store beginning December 7.

When Styx was invited to participate in Eric Clapton's Crossroads benefit earlier this year, they changed up their set to include blues songs, such as their newly recorded version of their hit "Blue Collar Man," as well as "I Am The Walrus." The audience response to the Styx-styled version was overwhelming, leading to the group's decision to include the single as a staple to their set lists at future shows.

"After attending our Chicago homecoming performance at Vic Theater back in August, WLUP Program Director Greg Solk requested a live recording of Walrus to play on the air," said James "JY" Young. "There was definitely a groundswell happening with the song. We love playing it on stage, and the audience loves it."

Tommy Shaw added, "Just as we thought our year was winding down, we find ourselves in full response mode as this rocking track keeps climbing up the charts. Jim Ladd told JY and me, 'You guys captured lightning in a bottle...' Frankly we're pleasantly stunned by how little we've had to do with its success at radio."

Styx recorded the song on September 11th in Lincoln City, Oregon and it aired on WLUP on October 8th, followed by a West Coast debut broadcast by radio host Jim Ladd on KLOS. In just three weeks, the song is being played on more than 120 stations. Apart from WLUP and KLOS, the single has been added at KQRS in Minneapolis, WFBQ in Indianapolis, KSAN in San Francisco, KDBN in Dallas, WKLS in Atlanta, WNCX in Cleveland, KISM in Seattle, KKLZ in Las Vegas, WARW in Washington, D.C., KIHT in St. Louis, WMFO in Boston, WEGR in Memphis, and WONE in Akron, to name a few.
The song debuted at #24 on the Mediabase Classic Rock chart and jumped to #10 a week later. The band is putting finishing touches on a video for the song that includes a cameo by Billy Bob Thornton.

At the time of 'Kilroy was here', and the song MR.Roboto.Wasn't Dennis kinda forcing the concept on the rest of the group???If yes, though DDY wrote it,maybe it is fair that JYTS gets a cut.Maybe not a third each. But the rest of the band was kinda pressured ,weren't they?
Come to think of it.Dennis was putting a lot of pressure on the rest of Styx
at that time ,thinking he could do everything to his liking.Maybe the rest of the band is still ticked off that.
I know ,that's way back.

Thanks for that link, Dave, but the only Styx I could find anywhere was Come Sail Away.

Is there somewhere else that lists them as number one?

Adam says "Boy, Froy, that DeYoung sure did a bang up job with that cover of (the band that gave the Fab Four all that competition) the unforgettable KNICKERBOCKERS hit song 'Lies' didn't he?...And what about 'NOT DEAD YET'? What was the name of Ralph Covert's band (who ORIGINALLY recorded the tune), was it the COPYCATS?"

Isn't Dennis the ultimate copycat - playing a parady of himself in a STYX tribute band in a b-movie?

It's a shame how low some people will stoop for money. Sounds kinda desperate to me.

That's a chiche response. Not everyone  , does what they do for the money. Do you know for a fact that Dennis did this for the money?
I know for a fact that he did it because he thought it was frickin' funny and a great tribute.
A copycat is somene who impersonates someone else. If someone else had played the role, then that statement would fit.
That's pushing it and a pretty poor way to try and put Dennis in the same boat that others have been put it.
If Dennis did things just for 'money', he would not pass up as many things as he does..and there are soooooooo many.

Kansas, just to let you know, Dennis has donated a lot of his time and money, especially recently with PBS. I don't have the total to date, but I do know it's a lot of money (for PBS). This is a fact, Dennis was approached for the movie Austin Powers. They asked him if they could use the phases from Mr. Roboto. Dennis turned down the money and just asked for an autographed poster signed by Mike Myers. That's all he wanted. It's now on the wall of his studio in his home. :)

I'm sure the other members of Styx, past and present probably donate their time and money too. I know they've been active donating money after 9/11.

Any movie with Hillary Duff in it these days should hardly be classified as a "b-movie"... she's one of the hottest (most popular and most attractive) young actresses in family movies today.

Going back a few pages to the comment that if you see a STYX concert today, you see 80% of the songs being done by the original singer...I am not so sure. Last time I saw them, I did not see Ray Charles, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix or DDY on stage...math not being one of my best subjects, I think we come up a little short there, and please don't forget JY was not thank god the original singer on Loreli. Maybe the medley throws all bets off, but there are some DDY songs in there as well.
Does anybody really know the true story about who got paid what for that damn VW commercial. I have never actually heard JY say that in an interview, has anybody else. And if he did, that is a business situation that probably doesn't belong in print just like all those silly backstage riders printed over at smoking gun.com. But if so Mr Young, wasn't Mr Roboto and Kilroy the anti crist that brought this band down, why would you ever want to be associated with it?

On the VW commercial that used Mr. Roboto on, Dennis should have been paid the most. He wrote the song. The song is his copyright. Tommy and Jy should have been paid the standard session fees. If Dennis wanted to pay them more fine. I can't think of the commerical, but the one with the cow and Lady playing in the back ground, Lady is Dennis' song. And JY (not Tommy since he wasn't on it) should have been paid session fees. Same with Chuck.-ERIC

This would make sense. Even though money is generally the wrong reason for doing something (and many times ends in disaster), it's sure hard to resist human nature.

He was paid the most thats why JY and Shaw kicked him out of the band.
'You current Styx fans must know that JY and Shaw were so pissed off that Dennis made 500 thousand dollars off of that commercial they stabbed Dennis in the back and kicked him out of his own band.
So go ahead follow the current lineup and pretend its STYX
I know in my heart and soul who the real STYX band is and won't ever have a ticket in my hand that say's STYX on it unless Dennis and Chuck are in the lineup.

He wrote the song. The song is his copyright. Tommy and Jy should have been paid the standard session fees.

This isn't now or ever was Dennis' band, it was all of theirs.

Chuck does play with this line-up on a fairly regular basis. But he isn't able to play the length of show on a regular basis due to health reasons.

If you think they "stabbed Dennis in the back" exclusively because of the Volkswagon commercial, then you are dreaming.

And don't forget, when Dennis had control, he made them a "copycat" band long before Walrus was recorded.

But why let the facts get in the way of a good thread.
