BOX SET

A couple years back, Dennis mentioned a box set with music from the follow up to Edge..., and other unheard songs. Tommy also mentioned a acustic Blue Collar Man, and some other songs. Anyone know the status of this cd, or these songs? -ERIC

I got the impression that the Anthology is the "box set." I do not think it has sold so well (not something I know for sure, mind you), so I wonder if we would ever see a true box set for Styx with everything, including rarities and unreleased tracks. I do believe that would be something fans might buy and really enjoy, yours truly among them.

The Anthology was a disappointment, I believe, to many fans.

It looks like the rumors of a release of "Caught in the Act" on DVD are also unfounded as well.

Tommy and JY were asked about demo tapes or other recordings that may be in some archives and they said that pretty much what they recorded ended up on the albums. I also think the box set is history as it was talked about primarily before the band and Dennis split.

Current Styx is about to put out a box set of demos and other rare Styx songs. It will be a 4 disc set. Disc 1&2 will be made up entirely of rare recordings of Blue Collar Man. I am a little foggy about disc 3,& 4,but I do know Ricky does a 20 minute guitar solo in disc 3, as JY dances, becoming Dr. Rightious again.

I heard an added bonus will be an enclosed DVD which will feature different concert fottage of Gowan jumping off his keyboards. I heard in Nebraska he did a complete 1 3/4 backflip twist and landed in a cornfield. There is also rare fottage of Tommy's wife graduating from high school, cutting hair, and her senior prank at graduation.

Sorry, but everyone is clamoring for that rarity "Blue Collar Man". The set will sell like wildfire if they include it. I understand it is almost never heard.

and, Maybe they could do it WITH ANOTHER BAND playing along !

and they could do it by themselves...and maybe a Blues version too !

andandand TOMMY could sing it differently, HECK HE COULD EVEN CHANGE A FEW OF THE WORDS !

I liked Dennis' reggae part of "Light Up". I can't believe I heard "Blue Collar Man" on the radio yesterday, I was laughing and I almost spit up my drink all over.

I think my last count of recorded "Blue Collar Man" is up to 11, appearing on cd's.

Eric, is REO's reggae version of "Keep On Loving You" on a cd/tape or did they play it at a concert?

I could swear there are rare Styx songs that were once recorded that haven't been released, yet. I'll have to find out.

As for Anthology, I know this for a fact, Dennis didn't have anything to do with what songs were put on the cd. He would've done things different, I think by making a bigger "box set" and adding more of the rare Styx songs. I can't remember word for word what he said.

I haven't heard any further information on the DVD version of "Caught In The Act". The only information I found was on the Styx Collector site.

Sadie, I know you really want to hear more versions of "Blue Collar Man" LOL :wink:

It certainly was for me, that's for sure. It was repackaging of a lot of the same old, same old (barring the extended version of MITW). If I didn't have GH 1 and 2, it probably would've held more allure for me. For a newer fan, it would've been a great buy.

I would love a box set with some rare tracks. I really can't stand box sets that are almost entirely made up of previously released material, but that's just my opinion. Clearly there's a market for them, because many seem to sell.

You'd think the stong sales of The Beatles Anthology...3 volumes, would make it obvious many people will pay good money for rarities - alternate takes of songs from a group they like.

Hell if people will put down their money for re-cycledreleases like Styx Rockers, they'll buy rarities !

REO's reggae version can be found on A Decade Of Rock and Roll Part ll. I think it is one of the WORST versions of a song I like EVER. Imaging DDY singing 'Just Fell In', JY singing 'Hip Hop', or the Spice Girls singing 'Come Sail Away' It's that BLOODY AWEFUL!! The CD itself is VERY good. I LOVE the song Variety Tonight, which is found on this disc. I like the entire CD, except the Keep On Loving You reggae version.

As for Rockers its still charting. I believe it moved up last week to # 1,005,330,269 on Billboards Top 1005,330,275. You have to subscribe to Billboard to get the entire chart.

for a new fan i would tell them to just buy the greatest hits and save some money. or buy part 2 as well.

I think I know the two people who bought this one.

I actually know a guy that bought Rockers. I don't think he has any of the old stuff, though. He's got Greatest Hits 1, Brave New World, and Cyclorama. With that collection, I suppose Rockers wouldn't fit in too bad.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Welcome To Hollywood is one of the finest CD's I have or will ever hear. Glen is a lyrical, and musical genius. The last song on the CD is titled The Muse. It was a song that I really didnt like at first. I think it was because at the beginning there are bagpipes, and there is some rap in the middle and end of the song. After hearing it and listening to the lyrics numerous times I now love it. Add to it Superboy, Bam, Another, All Thats Yet To Come, Welcome To Hollywood, Kiss Your Ass Goodbye and the others it is soooooooooo awesome!!!!! I can NOT recommend this CD highly enough to anyone.

One side note; for all of our sakes lets just hope that no current members of Styx read this, or we may find ourselves with yet another version of Blue Collar Man. Complete with bagpipes and a rap!!!!!!!!

Actually I purchased two copies of Rockers. One was purchased as a gift to Froy for Ground Hogs Day. I have yet to mail it to him though. The time just hasnt seemed right.
